**OFFICIAL** 2017 SONY XBR-X930E (Owner's Thread)(No Price Talk)

Just upgraded yesterday to a brand new 65in 930E at Best Buy yesterday. They only had one which was supposed to have been the demo but they made an exception and sold it to me! I'm upgrading from a Samsung UN55B8000 I'd purchased about 8yrs ago so it's a huge upgrade for me. I've always been impressed with Sony TVs and figured I finally upgrade after what I'd seen at CES. The addition the Dolby Vision future upgrade kind of sealed the deal for me since I like to future proof as much as I can with big ticket items such as this. I'll be mounting it as the TV stand I currently have for the Samsung isn't sturdy enough to support such a heavy TV. I hope to inbox it tomorrow and purchase the mounts needed. This is a great forum and the information that was provided here that I've been reading through this past week actually aided me in making my final decision to take the plunge and get the newest 930 series instead of last years version. I'm new here so any suggestions you guys have with PQ settings etc will be appreciated.

Please post screen pics of content! Cable TV feeds, Blu-ray and video games (if you are a gamer like myself) ;-)

I'll definitely do so. I major reason I'd purchased this TV is due to the upgraded X1 processor. I'd read some negative reviews about how bad the input lag was on the X930D and I'm hoping Sony has addressed that issue in this year's model.

Congrats on your purchase. When you get a chance let us know if it gives you any sort of indication that a HDR video is playing(Netflix, Amazon etc etc) How does HDR and SDR to HDR look?

Gillietalls 03-05-2017 04:16 AM

^^^^ This! Want to know if an HDR notification pops up when HDR content is playing... Also how's the light bleed and blooming while playing HDR content. Thanks...

Congrats on your purchase!

I'm deciding between either the Sony X930E or Samsungs KS9000 or their newest QLED. Any of your impressions/feedback will be greatly appreciated. One of the nice things about the Samsungs TV's is their new "smart remote" which detects everything connected to TV and acts as a universal remote, so I'm curious what you think about the SONY remote and if it can control all devices hooked up..(audio,ps4..etc) or if you need to buy a universal remote.

I think you'll need a universal remote with the Sony. It comes with an IR blaster with only two buds to be able to control 2 devices. I'm not 100% on that but from watching some of the Sony unboxing vids, it looks to be the case.

Thanks. Thats what I figured. Of course the remote is not my deciding factor...I was just curious. The X1 Extreme may be the deciding factor. I love how they added it to the 930e...since it was originally just in the Z9D lineup. Looks impressive.

Yeah I can't wait to hear some of the owner's real world comments.

Loving the new 65 inch X930E so far. Ask me anything!

jasyn 03-05-2017 08:22 AM

Multiple posts on the anticipation thread say no light bleed. While I can probably attest to this being on normal content, I'm more interested if this is the case on films with letterboxing. Please post photos when you get the chance. The movie Passengers would be a good example in my opinion. Watched it last night, great film :) Input lag I would care about as well. John Archer's review showed 40ms on the 55".

Same question earlier
1) When you get a chance let us know if it gives you any sort of indication that a HDR video is playing(Netflix, Amazon etc etc) How does HDR and SDR to HDR look?
2) Can pictures setting be switched when HDR video is playing?
3) How is the light reflection on the screen for us who watch tv in the daytime with the lights on?

Movie and animation pictures would help thanks. Also what tv did you have before you upgraded?

Craiger123 03-05-2017 09:45 AM

N30 how does the HD to 4k upconversion look and what TV provider do you have? Have you tested how fast the Opera browser is? Thanks.

1) There is an HDR logo any time the video source has HDR10. Oddly I recall not seeing HDR for Netflix's Chef Table on a few episodes last night, but it seems to be working fine now. HDR on this tv is really impressive if the source utilizes it well. I cannot compare to Samsung HDR or Dolby Vision (yet), so professional reviews will be the ones to look out for. (there is so much tonal range in light and color, creating a crazy sense of depth and color accuracy though). I am not sure what you mean by "SDR to HDR". There is a separate setting for HDR to turn it on manually which was not present in the 930D (but turning on HDR for non HDR material makes everything look over saturated and wrong).

2) You can adjust almost all picture settings in HDR but brightness and contrast are set to maximum by default, to utilize the full range of brightness and dark in the content.

3) There is some reflecting light when watching in daytime, but this is when there is direct bright light going to the screen and you are seeing very dark content. the panel is not fully glossy and has some anti reflective layer. I almost exclusively watch content in the dark so it is not an issue for me.

I had a 39 inch 1080p samsung, the model number escapes me. I bought the 930D but the vertical lines in the panel and broken 3D were enough for me to return it. I do not see any issues with this panel. The HDR and upscaling are far better than the 930D. And no light bleed or clouding I can see.

I took photos of the set with the RX100 IV but because of the size limitation of uploads, these photos are from a Samsung S7 Edge. The phone oversaturates color and makes it seem like there is clouding when in reality there is none.

If you hook it up to a computer then could you check how 1080p @ 120 FPS looks? I would just like to see a closeup with the RX100 at 1080p @ 120 FPS.

Enjoy your new set.

How's gaming on this TV? Does it have similar input lag to 930D?

bluewhale1 03-05-2017 11:04 AM

Thanks if you can can you take a picture or 2 of the first fight scene of Marco Polo One Hundred Eyes? On the Samsung Q7 55 inch I had for less than 24 hours for some reason it looked better on my KS8000 than it did on the Q7

I will try. Is 120 FPS an option in the Nvidia control panel? I have a GTX 980

I played a lot of FIFA and Horizon: Zero Dawn yesterday and there was no noticeable lag. It seems much improved, but I have no way of measuring it.

jasyn 03-05-2017 11:26 AM

@isarafan can you please play a movie with letterboxing and take a photo?

Are my photos from Marco polo Netflix not considered letterbox? There are black lines on the top and bottom. Anyway, here are some photos from the Dune player. As you can see, no light leak:

They look really good. The letter box bars look nice and black.

I will just tell you right now the black bars do not change based on picture mode.

It is hard to take a good photo with that scene and all of the motion. I took a video for you:

Keep i mind with the Galaxy S7 Edge, the colors re oversaturated (way more natural in real life), and the dynamic range is eliminated (crushed blacks, super bright highlights in the video).

Picture 4/7 shows light bleed on the bottom, maybe 5/7 on the top, but it's probably because of the angle of your picture and/or the camera blowing things out of proportion. If you sit straight on, do you see the same thing? That's all I really care about. I'm skeptical because these are edge-lit, but from the photos, things look good. I was considering the X900E because it was FALD, but see no reason if the X930E looks like this :)

If you want to see light bleed and I don't. In the picture I see a window.
Go look in the Samsung QLED forum this looks like gold compared to the gray letter box bars posted over there.
