I bought a KS8000 back in November and returned it. It had some annoying light bleed in the bottom left corner and the uniformity was poor. I tried to live with it but I just couldn't get it out of my mind. If I'm going to pay that much for something, I shouldn't have to try to like it.
Anyway, I bought the X900E last week and am very satisfied. The blacks may have been very slightly better on the KS8000 but the overall image on the X900E is better. As far as brightness, I don't think you would be able to tell much of a difference, or at least you wouldn't want to. The X900E is capable of being annoyingly bright, so I'm not exactly crying over losing that extra luminance that the KS8000 has. Oh, and the build quality is much better on the Sony (with the exception of the remote). You don't have to worry about the case coming unglued on the X900E.

The KS8000 is a very nice tv... if you can find a good unit.

Blake, the corners look a little dim in that last image you posted of the cartoon. Are they always noticeably dim like that?

Also, do you have a way to test if CEC and/or ARC work on multiple ports, or just one particular port?

Totally agree that quality control on Samsung is very bad or hit and miss, along with panel lottery. I had 4 KS9000 before I found a good one. I figured quality would be a high point on the Sony, with AndroidOS being a low point. But overall image should go to the Samsung, well according to rtings anyway.

Biggest reason is 2500$ for 65" 900e vs $1500 KS8000, big price difference.

Anyway, I ordered a 940e to replace my Samsung, but it gives me FALD and Dolby Vision. Was just curious.

Marginally better blacks, a lot worse dimming system. Supposedly better black/grey uniformity (on their single review unit) but none of the 5 or so reviews so far of the X900E have noticed any vertical banding (and I'd think that would be far more important to most people). And Rtings is only one review and is also taking into account the price of the KS8000 (the KS9000 is the better tv but price-performance wise the KS8000 is their recommendation). A German video review (also published AV magazine) thinks the X900E is better than all the KS models bar the KS9800 ... (the picture processing is top notch on the Sony, not even worth upgrading to the X930E for. Only for better HDR, Dolby Vision and better sound performance. And not to forget the build quality upgrade)

What most people fail to realize input lag isnt everything yes it could be as low as 20 but you get trade offs going from sony to samsung. motion is horrible on most samsungs tv. i would rather have awesome motion control and i little bit higher input lag. it really does balance it self out.

There are 'edit' and 'multi-quote' buttons you know . But it is true this model has every so slightly dark corners (as do most direct LED tv's), does not seem bothersome indeed (and still preferable over vertical banding )

Here is the uniformity shot from the Polish review:

Mithras, thanks for that image! Helps me see the real amount of corner darkening. Not bad at all! Still trying to figure out what the situation is with which ports support CEC and ARC though, compared to which ports support HDR...

looks typical for a very good Direct lit LED/LCD panel seen a lot worse ,shouldent bother a sane person on programs at all if they could even see it outside of a Hockey game and Plasma ABL like that on a Hockey game or something like that is way more annoying on the Sammy in my sig

You're not going to notice any light leakage issues till the sun goes down - I don't see how the light coming through the window would allow you to notice it especially when you're television is in front of it. Having said that, if local dimming is turned on I expect that you shouldn't notice any clouding but there will be instances of haloing and blooming - it's just a matter of the degree. Oh, congrats on your new Sony!

Is it just me or are the stands Sony designed for the 900E and 930E beautiful. Very utilitarian. When I get home tonight I'll post my picture settings. I calibrated with the Spears and Munsil Blu-ray.

ARC is only on port 3. I've got everything hooked up to a receiver so port 3 is the only one I'm using on the TV. CEC works as well because my TV can turn on my PS4, which is convenient since Sony decided to be stupid for some reason and only allow their controllers to turn on a PS4. It's nice because it offers me a work around for not being able to use my Harmony Elite to turn it on.

Only HDMI port 3 has ARC. Here is a screen grab from the manual.

Yes, I like the stands that way. I hate those little feet way out on the ends of other TVs lately. I just wish the bastards had done all the HDMI ports equal. You better able to set game mode on any port(s) you want.

Yeah TV's with the feet on the ends wouldn't even work for me because my TV sits on top of my center channel speaker. I don't see why you couldn't activate game mode on any input, though I haven't tried myself, just on port 3. I agree all the ports should be capable of the same thing, but as a practical matter, do you need more than 2 fully spec'd HDMI ports? Just curious.

I agree all the ports should be capable of the same thing, but as a practical matter, do you need more than 2 fully spec'd HDMI ports? Just curious.
From the review rtings, it looks like last year's Vizio P only did game mode on HDMI5. That's why I was curious. Never know what kind of stupid **** these TV makers are doing.
