Here are my calibration settings I got using Rtings' recommended settings as a starting point and then using the Spears and Munsil Blu-Ray to do a final calibration. I did the calibration in a moderately lit room as I watch in varied environments: anything from at night with all the lights out to during the day with the blinds cracked open. I tried to make my lighting for calibration somewhere in between the two extremes. All the extra processing modes were turned off during calibration and then turned back on when done calibrating.

Picture mode: Custom (Also Game mode for when playing games)
Auto picture mode: Off
Brightness: 30
Color: 52 (58 in Game mode)
Light sensor: On (I like this being on due to my varied lighting environments)

Brightness Tab
Brightness: 30
Contrast: 95
Gamma: 0
Black Level: 50 (51 in Game mode to make it a tad bit easier to see things in dark areas for games)
Black Adjust: Off
Adv. contrast enhancer: Off
Auto local dimming: Medium
X-tended Dynamic Range: High

Color Tab
Color: 52 (58 in Game mode)
Hue: 0 (R1 in Game mode)
Color temperature: Expert 1
Adv. color temperature: Default values as I do not have the equipment needed to calibrate these settings
Live Color: Off

Clarity Tab
Sharpness: 51
Reality Creation: Off
Random noise reduction: Off
Digital noise reduction: Off
Smooth gradation: Low

Motion Tab
Motionflow: True Cinema (Off in game mode)
Cinemotion: High (Forced default to Off in game mode)

Video Options Tab
All Auto

These settings may or may not work for you, but I think they're dialed in pretty well for my own viewing situations.

Hello, XBR 900E owners

I will receive my TV next month and I have questions for people who run Kodi on this TV.

Does Kodi can change refresh rate "on the fly" when you play [email protected] movies for example ?

Also, does Kodi can use hardware acceleration to decode HD and UHD/4K files ?

I'm a Kodi user and I know that NVidia shield have this feature but other Android box don't allow Kodi to access this setting.

If Kodi can't change refresh rate, I will you my Odroid C2.

Thanks.

Watched the first couple minutes last night. When he was wandering around the street in the beginning, I saw zero graininess. When he was in the lobby talking to the receptionist, there was some graininess similar to what I used to see with the old TV using the automatic bandwidth settings. When he was in the lobby looking at the video of his dad and brother(?) there was no graininess. When the security guards were throwing him out, there was no graininess. This is about the time the boss said it was time for bed so I turned it off.

The graininess looked exactly like the way it used to look when Netflix cut down the bit rate due to low bandwidth on the old TV as viewed through Amazon Fire TV.

Thanks.

If this is what you mean then yes, the X900E can change the refresh rate. At least the option is available.
As for whether Kodi can use hardware acceleration, I am almost positive that it does. The TV can play h.265/HEVC files, which wouldn't be possible without hardware acceleration.

OK, the option is available but on my Android Box, the option is set up and Kodi send (I guess) the order to switch from [email protected] (which is my setup for menus and SD videos) to [email protected] but my TV (Samsung 32") does not switch. And it's not a TV issue because my Raspberry Pi or My Odroid C2 can change refresh rate.

Do you have [email protected] movie to make a quick test ?

And what about hardware acceleration ?

I'm pretty impressed with this TV, as I'm looking for a 2nd set. Seems like Sony took a page out of Vizio's handbook with an affordable FALD TV. Would you say this compares to the P-series or M-series from Vizio?

My Home theater Set-Up:
Sony XBR75X900E (Prior TVs included LG OLED65B6P, Samsung KS8000/8500, KU6300)
LG LAS465 2.1-Channel 300W Sound Bar w/ Wireless Subwoofer
Philips BDP7501 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player with HDR support
Other TV: Sony XBR49X900E (Returned Samsung UN49MU8000FXZA)

Well it doesn't have as many dimming zones as the M or P series so it depends.

Has anyone here been able to do a direct comparison between the 900e and a Vizio P Series? Specifically the 55". I bought a P series 55" last week as a (big) upgrade to my 2011 Philips 40" TV, and I do really love it, but for HDR gaming, the input lag is 43 ms vs the 900e's 34 ms. Testing out games like Mass Effect with that 43 ms has been ok so far, I think I can notice it slightly but it doesn't really bother me. However, I haven't tried playing any FPS games yet like Halo, so it might be more noticeable in that kind of game.

Aside from the input lag difference, the thing I really love about the P series is the FALD. But I'm still having second thoughts about the TV gaming-wise with the KS8000 and this 900e having better input lag. I'm kind of turned off from the KS8000 because of the lack of FALD, although everyone always says it has better colors and gets a lot brighter. Now I've also been reading that motion handling is not good on the KS8000, so that turns me off further. Finally, the KS8000 can't do 1080p 120hz, while the P series and 900e can, and that's nice for when I want to play my PC games on the big screen (via long HDMI cable).

Now one thing about the P series...The tablet remote is cool, but really I'd rather just have the apps on the TV itself. AFAIK, the 900e and KS8000 still have Google Cast capability built-in, so I can still cast whatever I want from my phone whenever I feel like it, but with Tizen or Android I won't have to rely only on casting from another device. So that's definitely a downside of the P series, but not a big enough one on its own to make me return it.

All of the above is deliberation purely on the specs and features though. When price comes into account, it makes me more indecisive. I got the P series 55" at Costco for $980 plus tax. I really would prefer to buy my TV from Costco, because I have the Costco Citi card so if I use that then I get 4 years of warranty, plus their 90 day return period. However, the KS8000 55" is $1279 at Costco. And the 60" is $1179 for some reason...but 60" might actually be too big. Also, Costco sells Samsung TVs with slightly different model numbers than the standard (KS800D, not KS8000), which means that my Citi card's Price Rewind probably wouldn't work if I saw a KS8000 for a lower price somewhere else, since that's not technically the same model. I frequently see open-box KS8000 and KS8500 TVs on Amazon for great prices, but then I lose that 4 year warranty and the ability to return it for free if necessary. And now with the 900e...Costco doesn't sell Sony TVs at all So then it's basically either Amazon or Best Buy, and the 49" 900e is $1199, so I'd be going down in screen size and also paying more than what I paid for the p55. But with nearly-as-good FALD (according to Rtings), apps on the actual TV, fantastic motion handling (from what I've read at least), and 9 ms better input lag, as well as keeping the [email protected] capability.

I'm sorry this is so long. Someone please help me somehow. I do have 90 days to deliberate on this after all, so maybe there will be a sale or something that will help me change my mind and get a Samsung or Sony. But I'm just thinking about it constantly and I can't figure it out. I could always return the p55 and go ahead and buy the Samsung from Costco and try it out, and if I notice the poor motion handling and/or blooming issues I could return it again and go back to the p55. That seems a bit ridiculous though. Blah.

Buy a KS8000 at Costco and see how you like it, great thing about Costco as you noted you've got 90 days. Heck you can even pick up the Vizio there too and compare them to see which you prefer based on YOUR priorites - use caps because you'll see folks posting and throwing one display under the bus because of something they may value more than you do - like colors, etc.

Keep in mind with the Costco Citi Visa you've got price matching protection for 90 days, so if you find a lower price anywhere (including eBay as long as its not an auction) you can get up to $500 back - that might be difficult on any of the 2016 models right now given their current pricing - but you could still save a few bucks - most likely on the new Sony model and afford the 55" 900e - see price match and do a web search You can buy a Sony 900e from BB and price match a number of lower priced e-retailers at a few dollars more than the 800d at Costco. Then buy your Square Trade warranty at Costco and pick up an extra 3 years of coverage. PM if you have questions.

There is no perfect display, quit looking for faults and enjoy

So Im having a problem. I got the 49" x900e and I cant get HDR to work on my PS4 Pro or Xbox One S. it keeps telling me HDR is only supported in 2K. So I cant have 4K and HDR at the same time. Is there some setting I'm missing?

Hey, thanks for the advice! I did have a couple questions. I haven't posted enough yet to be able to PM you unfortunately

I didn't realize you could price match eBay as well, that's awesome! I'm assuming though that it only works for listings in New condition, right?

Second, with the Citi Price Rewind, if I bought the Samsung KS800D/KS850D at Costco, do you know if they would still honor price matches with KS8000s or KS8500s at other retailers?

The x900e really sounds like the perfect TV for me, but the 55" is really just out of my price range. Even if I got a full $500 back in the 90 days after purchase, that would put it at $1199 plus the tax from the $1699 price, and that's really just a little too much. With the 49" at $1199, it's still slightly out of my price range right now, but if I get a deal with price match then it would bring it down just about where I would prefer to max out. However, the thing with the 900e is that I can't buy it at Costco, so if there are no price drops to match against in the next 90 days, I'm still stuck with it, I can't return it.

Sorry for rambling, and thanks for your help.

I'm wanting the next upgrade to be a wow upgrade and longer than the usual 2 years in this room which brings to mind the Sony Z1C OLED or 9ZD FALD or X930E "edge lit FALD" with the X1 extreme processing depending on the variables .

That said I wouldent mind some Sony 55X850C vs Sony X900E and Sony X930E input either ,the Sony 9ZD and Sony OLED outcome vs Sony X850C is a given that they would be the wow upgrades I may want.

I made a quick video of my x850c next to my x930e for another member.

Not sure why everyone jumps on this TV so fast since it just came out? Prices are way high now, so why not just wait till BF? I looked at one the other day, and it's hardly any better than my X800D.

2017 Sony XBR 900E owners thread

Hey guys hope everyones x900e are performing well. Jumping from the x930d thats non repairable and Sony is replacing it with a x900e. Fought for a x930e but Sony wanted more money on top. Rtings says the x900e will perform just as good if not better so I figured why not.

Any good settings out there besides rtings?

Thanks!

Someone told me that Sony X900E is a lot better at night?
I was hesitating between Oled and KS8000, but someone told me the X900E is very good to watch movies at night because of it is good local dimming
Is that true? Oled is obviously the best out of the 3, but is the X900E really better for people watching movies at night?

I suggest looking at the KS8000 and 900e reviews on rtings.com.

FWIW you can buy the 3 year Costco Squaretrade warranty at Costco maybe $95.00 + /- depending on what you paid for the TV that starts at the end of the MFR. warranty on any new TV from another store or Costco . I belive the window is 30 days .

https://www.costco.com/squaretrade-tv.html

Squaretrade pays a maximum of what you paid for the TV and any prior claims /repairs they paid will be subtracted from that if they settle it that way .

The 4 yr warranty at Squaretrade direct is significantly more money

I Purchased the 3 year Costco Squaretrade warranty at Costco web site > TV warranties link above , non members can buy that too with a Costco Cash card

I have the warranty on on the 2015 Sony XBR - X850C in here and the Samsung 64 f8500 Plasma out front I bought at Best Buy and not the overpriced B.B warranties

I also scanned the receipt in after they sent me an Email with that option after a few days to speed up any warranty claims if they happen and sent it to them.

My next usual upgrade in here, probably a Sony X900E or X930E will get that warranty
the Sony Z9D and A1C Oled are too spendy at my usual upgrade cycles even though they may prolong all that

Just replaced a 65X930D with a 65X900E. Very, very impressed. Really great set.

Because I need a tv and BF is 8 months away.

Thanks for posting ,the Reality Creation & related slider description below is interesting and plausible .

disable many of the processing modes, such as ‘*Reality Creation’ (a joint upscaling and noise-reduction mode for standard-definition sources), ‘Motionflow’ (motion smoothing), and ‘X-tended Dynamic Range’.

*I had mine at 25 and just turned it off for anything beyond lousy 480i viewing or low res You Tube and so on .

Motion smoothing/clearness /noise reductions and all that is always [OFF] here but I use ACE ,Black Adjust and Live color ,light sensor [OFF]and .BT 2020 color with color saturation at 40-50 depending on the content .

I'm still watching a fairly decent 2015 Sony X850C here but may get an X900E or X930E upgrade if they wow me in the store at mid summer or Q4 price drops ,the X900E is sounding entirely plausible among those , I have to see them .

I usually try to buy at Q4 or EOL Jan. Feb. pricing and that is *usually the same as B.F. with only ~ bi weekly variables about maybe 10% above the low as it was in 2016 and until now on 2016 product if you watch the weekly's at the various retailers on the web .

BF is for the Wal Mart and Target and BB doorbuster rubbish nobody at AVS wants albeit the good Samsung ,LG , and Sony model tiers are usually on sale then or around then also

If you watch Sony and Samsung trade weeks or 2 week intervals for the ongoing Q4 and EOL seasonal lower UPP sale prices of the respective product . Somebody in the business can probably verify that here

My dilemma is what Sony is going to wow me over my arguably decent 55X850C ,will it be an X900E,X930E or Sony A1C OLED or Z9D ? I'm hoping its an X900E or X930E at good enough wow factor the others are way more spendy although possible but they would have to be out of this world compared to what I have on broad market 720p/1080i content up to 4K HDR streaming but stonking better below HDR Blue Ray and my hires eye candy media drives and equally better on that as well for me to think about that spendy business above the X930E and given today's broad market content it's probably overkill for the two top Sony TV here with my view habits outside of hires eye candy

TBH not having seen it the X900E is sounding not bad . I have to see them and folks say its a decent upgrade over my 2015 X850C with a remarkably good panel for one of those , the arguably better than my TV Samsung KS8000 , 2016 X930D and maybe 2015 X930C so that's encouraging and more so for X930E ,

The X900E-X930E price difference or even the 2 more spendy 65" Sony (TBH more than I'm inclined to spend ) won't break me anyway but I want big results either way and thanks for your input .
