Bad news for me.
While watching yesterday AM my display suddenly went dark.
Unable to turn it back on via remote or button on the back.
Unplugged it and plugged it back in..... nothing.

Sony help had me unplug, push on and vol down and plug back in simultaneously........ nothing.
I am 10 days past my purchase anniversary date.

I guess we will see what Sony is willing to do.

Perhaps I misremembered.

Wow that really sucks. I'm like right at my 1 year warranty date this week. I would cry if something happened to my 900E just after warranty ended. I hope they are willing to do something. Do they typically help or are the sticklers about it and the end of warranty is the end of the line?

I just purchased an Xbox One X and while setting up the inputs, I noticed an update TV Software Update Icon within the Featured Apps. In its description there are screen shots of the Oreo Interface. Let's hope overall performance is improved.

In the description it appears that VP9 profile 2 support will be added which means possible YouTube and Google Play Movies in HDR.
I saw this as well.. excited to get the update. Does anybody know if this new version of android tv will support the DirectvNow app?

You need to be asking DirecTV when THEY will be supporting Android TV, not the other way around.

Direct TV has an Android TV device under development, so they may be keeping their apps under wraps.

Sony XBR55X900E
Marantz SR7010/Marantz MM7025
Oppo UDP-203 - Nvidia Shield
XBox One X
Klipsch RP-260f - RP-440C - RP140sa- RP-160m - RB10 - Sony SA-WM500

The sideloaded Directv NOW app works on various other Oreo devices (NVIDIA shield and Mi Box), so I don't see why it wouldn't continue to work on our TVs.

Additionally, Sony doesn't control the Netflix app - it's available from the Play store as this is an Android TV.
Last time I looked the installed Netflix app on the 900 series was different to the play store. Things change though. I suspect it will get loaded just nothing in the content bar.

The Play Store for Android TV caters to Android TV devices and does not include the mobile versions of the apps. The Layout is different from the site used by mobile devices. When you pull up Youtube, for example, it's the Android TV version, not the mobile version.

With the new Oreo interface, apps such as Netflix will have it's own Row which will include content you recently streamed. In the Row settings, depending on the app such as Youtube, you can configure multiple rows to your liking.

Youtube will have a "Trending" row, your "Subscription" row which displays channels you subscribe to. Vimeo is similar.

Plex will have a "Suggested" Row as well.

For the Live TV App, it will display the current Channels available and you can customize it to where the icon will stream live audio and video without the need to go into the actual app.

With Kodi, it is very customizable to the point where you can add Playlists to create custom Rows. So you can have a Row of Star Wars Movies, Transformers, TV Shows, Music, etc etc.

I haven't read the past 2 weeks of this thread. I'll catch up later.

Just a question, though.

Is this TV a VA, TN, or IPS panel? I can't seem to find that info anymore.

Actually, I see it now. VA:

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x900e

Was there a 49" IPS panel in a similar price range? Is IPS better than VA?

This says that it depends on what you watch, and the environment of the setup.

https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/ips-led-vs-va-lcd

Thoughts?

Picked up a Roku Ultra during the big 50% off sale for Black Friday and love it so far. Youtube TV, in particular, is dramatically improved. Live sports used to be a lagging, stuttery mess on the internal app. On the Roku, however, it's buttery smooth. As a bonus, the Roku remote controls volume and power on the TV, so I can use just one remote. Highly, highly recommended.

Maybe I should have explained myself better. If you download this Netflix app for Android TV (compatible with Sony tvs) from Google play store and side load it it's completely different to the Netflix App you get with the upgrades. Been through troubleshooting this with another owner and they are different versions.

I upgraded to OREO and can confirm Directv NOW still works (don't even need a GPS spoofer anymore either). One thing I have run into is that using Button Mapper on Oreo for AndroidTV is kind of broken. It is not the app itself, but it requires Accessibility Services permissions, and that feature has a known issue with this version of AndroidTV. Essentially, when trying to launch an app from the quick launcher (top row) it opens the dialog box to open the app/move app instead of just launching the app

I chose to wait until right before my warranty expires at the end of this month in hopes of the recert 900E supply diminishing and instead being offered a 900F.

Just got off the phone with them and had them re-open my case. The rep stated that they still had recertified units available so I would not be offered a brand new 900F. I don't really have a choice at this point so I had to accept. The rep said I would be contacted by the 'buying' department to set up shipping and delivery, so here's hoping he was incorrect and they end up giving me the newer unit.

Well, well well...Here I am, back again to tell you about the WONDERFUL recertified 75X900E that I accepted delivery of today...Check out the photos! My 'new' TV has boobs!

I am beyond furious at the moment. As I said previously, I had it out with Sony when I attempted the replacement because I read horror stories on this exact forum about others receiving JUNK recertified units, and I demanded a new model year unit. I told them I could not afford to take off of work multiple times to play their recertified replacement lottery, but they mandated that I must accept at least one recert unit before I even attempt to ask for a brand new TV. And here we are: I had to leave work early today and take time off to sit around all afternoon and wait for the replacement which turned out to be a TOTAL DUD.

Once replaced with nothing less than a brand new unit, this will absolutely be my last Sony TV. This TV was $3,000 brand new; I refuse to pay premium prices to be handled like an inferior customer.

Sony has agreed to honor the warranty since it is within 30 days of expiration.
They have not said yet whether it is repair or replacement.

In your settings go to About > System Updates. I manually checked and it popped up on my 49x900e.

Also, if you ran any of the de-bloating scripts (to remove unnecessary apps) you may get a black screen when the TV first starts up after the update. If that happens, apparently you can follow the instructions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/comm..._disable_apps/ (the section titled How to Fix Settings/Home Menu not opening). I did a facory reset before trying that. So if the instructions above doesn't fix, a factory reset will.

I am on the fence regarding my replacement,
Don't get me wrong, I love the 900F, but, as it is a replacement, there is only a 90day warranty.
If it were a 900E refurb they sent me, it would have 2 yrs

Is this TV a VA, TN, or IPS panel? I can't seem to find that info anymore.

Actually, I see it now. VA:

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x900e

Was there a 49" IPS panel in a similar price range? Is IPS better than VA?

This says that it depends on what you watch, and the environment of the setup.

https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/ips-led-vs-va-lcd

Thoughts?
Any thoughts on IPS vs. VA vs. TN, and how one compared this VA TV with other technologies?

How much of a factor was this being a VA TV, when making the decision?

I didn't think as much about it when I bought it. I'm thinking more about it now.

Not sure if it was your particular thread I replied to, but I have never had luck with refurbished units. Good luck getting Sony to replace it with new. Maybe this time they will do what they should have done the last time.

How much of a factor was this being a VA TV, when making the decision?

I didn't think as much about it when I bought it. I'm thinking more about it now.
I went from IPS panels to a VA with this 900E. Despite the warnings that angle viewing is worse, I found angle viewing looked better to my eye than my other sets. I watch the TV from the patio sometimes and it's about a 45 degree angle -I was pleasantly surprised the image looked better (less contrast for sure but still looks nice and bright). That's about all I can say.

Would I set out to only buy a VA panel in the future? Probably not.
