How long does it take for the Image retention to go away? I haven’t watched cable news since last week. What are best picture settings to help prevent in first place?

Always be up to date IMO. 8.0 is great. No issues I can see.

honestly we're sort of screwed due to no longer getting any updates (mostly about security updates, can ignore features) for an internet connected device.

Relatedly, I'm generally against regulations, but I sometimes wonder if there would be a value in a regulation that requires all "IoT" / "Internet connected devices" to explicitly advertise the support period for security updates (don't have to mandate the period, if a company wants to say 1 year, that's on them but would be ok), just make it clear to the consumer what the period is) and to enforce heavy fines if company doesn't meet the commitment they advertised. My guess is that the major manufacturers would end up competing with each other on period length if they had to advertise and keep to this commitment.

I need to purchase some new HDMI cables running from my 940E to a Denon receiver and from my X800M2 and ATV4K to the receiver. I'm not the most tech savvy and couldn't find info on the HDMI ports or what the max signal speed is in the manual or Sony's website.

I started reading about dynamic VS static HDR. Is the 940E considered dynamic HDR with the Dolby Vision upgrade? Would I benefit from the "Ultra High Speed" 8K HDMI cables, they're listed as "Dynamic HDR", or just use Premium High Speed 4K ones?

Also, any benefit to utilizing CAT 8 or 6A from my router to the ATV4K and the TV?

JTR 110HT, 8HT, Captivator 1400; JBL SP8CII (Atmos); Denon X4200W; Outlaw 2200; Sony 75X940E; Sony X800M2; ATV4K

The most important factor for HDMI is how long the run is. As long as you’re under 15’ you will be perfectly fine with any ATC Tested and Certified High Speed HDMI Cable (with hologram QR code).

Cat5e is perfectly fine between router and ATV.

My feelings exactly. The fact that they are still readily available on Amazon is astonishing. Do Not pass up the opportunity!

do people find that dolby vision content isn't as bright as normal HDR10 content (i.e. played from an oppo). the "dolby vision" logo that pops up is just as bright as the hdr10 logos that pop up on the content, but the image itself seems dim.

any thoughts? perhaps some weird misconfiguration on my part?

Perhaps that is due to the fact that Dolby Vision tone mapping is on a scene by scene
basis as set by the person mastering the video whereas HDR10 is a static tone mapping for
the entire video.

Sony XBR-940E Settings

Here is a summary of settings from this thread and a few other places. (No substitute for a pro calibration (thanks Chad!) but for the 940 owners who would like to try out some different settings while they wait for their calibration.)

The new Sony remote RMF-TX600U works perfectly with the 940e. If anyone would like an upgrade.

Disney+ just updated to 1.4. Still only can utilize stereo out of the sound system with the 940E.
