Just so I am being clear;

Watching an advertised 4K video on the tv's internal YouTube ap will give me 1440 at best. Stats for nerds states "optimal resolution" at 1440 or whatever, well less than what it should be.

Watching THE SAME VIDEO via my X800 it displays full res, optimal res s correct also.

It's as though the internal ap is restricted, has a limiter set on it.

Best buy is going to swap my 940D for the ghosting/smearing issue that I have with it. Can anybody tell me if this has been resolved with the 940E? I would have to pay the $1200 difference and trying to decide if it’s worth it. Here’s an example of my issue.

I see nothing like that. In fact, I have not noticed any motion blur.

It will be worth it. 940E seems to be one hell of a panel.

I'm surprised how uniform it looks. I can see a slight hint of dark corners in all 4, but I just never notice it unless I stare at it. Watching in dim night lighting last night, I did not notice any effects of it being an LCD like a sidelit would show, and never saw a zone doing anything with live content. Pretty impressive, can't wait to see how it behaves in a dark room.

I had noticed the recent movement as you had described. At this point I just done want to push this purchase out much longer in hopes of a further reduction as this may be months away for all I know.

Already moved my 65" VT60 into the BR and now I have the 52'' sitting in the LR.
Its going to feel like my own IMAX going from the 52" 2008 LCD to the 940e..

I will definitely share my thoughts with the board members.
thanks again for the info..

Any update/input on your experiences a week+ later?

Watched episodes 4, 5 and 6 on Amazon of their series Lemans in UHD. Started getting dark so I cut all the lights out and closed the blinds, because 4 and 5 were night racing. I swear this tv is like a wall of image in the dark, and it is going to be so good with football. I had to cut Brightness down from 25 to 20, going to throw a test disc in later and check my black level setting.

I tried to nitpick, but I just can’t see the zones working, I mean this is well designed. I guess it is a combo of the number of zones, their response time, and the base black level the panel itself can hit when turning on pixels and turning them off. No banding in the bright white skies either on day shots, leaves a very clean look.

This is full screen, last big test will be some letterbox stuff this weekend. Still liking Standard for MotionFlow.

Once it got real dark I went through some demo stuff (LG Colors of Journey, LG Chess and Samsung Chasing Light) and test patterns. The HDR demo files were very good, lacking a little pop from the OLED in certain scenes, but man they still looked great. When the wine glass splashes in LG Chess against the black background, WOW.

Using HDR10 and SDR test patterns I noticed the following:
  • Custom Pro was well over 1000 nits, but you only got 2000 nit and 4000 nit tone mapping in Custom Home for whatever reason.
  • 50 black level was appropriate for HDR mode, Gamma left in stock 0.
  • With SDR patterns, I found 90 contrast to be fine with regards to clipping, and Black Level needed 49 not the stock 50, using Gamma -2 (2.4 gamma).
  • Of course wide mode full and the full pixel setting shows 0 overscan, which is what I want. I noticed these are blocked out with 2160p and only adjustable with lower incoming resolutions. Fine with me as long as it is pixel for pixel.

I don't suppose you've got any DVR'd football games handy you can throw on just to jump the gun and *find out* just how awesome it's gonna be, do you.....

You're input is making me salivate, btw... I'm trying to hold out for one more price reduction, but man.... I'm ready to be a 940E owner.

It does do this a little bit but its way less then my old 75X8505c. It was in the most extreme condition black dot on white background.
The 930E and if remember correctly the 75ZD9, have better pixel response times compared to the 940E.

If you watch a lot of cartoons i think you should test it in a store first just to be sure. I dont watch a lot of cartoons only did a very small test with family guy. Sometimes i get the feeling a part of the blur is also caused by 24P refresh rates but i would have to dive in to that more to be sure about that.

If you can, do the white dot test. Easiest way is to get to it through youtube search. That should show you the local dimming zones working. Even on my JS9500 it made the zones look huge. This tv should do much better, going to be my first test tonight when I set mine up :P

I do not. I cannot wait for Kong Skull Island UHD this weekend.

My dad and uncle are coming over tonight and we are going to watch Clapton Slow Hand at 70, should be fun. Not sure how far away you will be sitting, but it is def a WOW factor. I almost bought the 940C when it came out, I'm for sure kicking myself for not doing it...

And on my post above, it seems if you just lower contrast to around 95 in Cinema Pro HDR mode, it tone maps just like Cinema Home. I wonder with a 1300 nit display though, how much HDR10 tone mapping you actually need, even the 4000 nit Warner discs arent really pushing limits.

My living room is a large space, and my head is at about 14 ft from the screen... I'm pairing my future 940E with a new furniture setup, but I'm just not going to be able to improve on that distance much no matter what (without a serious hit to WAF...). It's just the way the house/room is.

But 75" will be a big step up from the 52" I'm currently using.

My basement setup involves being 9' away from a 58" Plasma, which unfortunately will STILL be more Field of View than 75" from 13' - 14' away... But the living room is where the better audio gear fits best, and where the family congregates more often (outside of Fall Saturdays, which are for the Basement...).

Please by all means keep the thoughts/opinions/reviews coming, it's great to read!!

When you say "custom pro" and "custom home" do you mean cinema pro and cinema home? Just want to make sure. Also, I have my black level set much lower, like around 44. When it is set to 50 or 49 I feel like the blacks are washed out or getting to be around a greyish color. I find it interesting that people have it set so high. Anyway, just found that interesting.

940e is coming tomorrow. I picked up a few 4k movies and a 4k player (oppo 203) and I am beside myself with what I have been missing on the audio side all this time. Just blown away with the difference that the Oppo has made with my system. Now just waiting for monitor and I may not leave the house for a few days....
I will let y'all know how it goes..

Yeah, I mean Cinema.

Not sure on Black Level, it would or could vary with gamma settings, but I set that with a proper brightness pattern and test disc.

Is there a list of all of your settings? I just watched the white dot test from rtings.com via youtube and the motion is definetly in need of dialing in.

FYI the local dimming on this thing is outstanding. Yes, you can see the zones light up and some light trailing around the white dot but the performance was well above my JS9500 and thats saying something in my book.

I did have motion dialed in on my JS so the white dot was perfectly round and did not break up at all during fast motion, on the 940e the white dot breaks up like crazy so I need to get this motion dialed in asap. Ill try gadgtfreeks settings first and go from there hopefully.

That's going to depend a lot on what settings you have turned on as for brightness turning most off and 50 is just about perfect for HDR and I use 10-15 for SDR

Not sure on Black Level, it would or could vary with gamma settings, but I set that with a proper brightness pattern and test disc.
Solid advice! and oh! don't expect the blacks in Ghost in the Shell to wow you but some scenes will. Overall the image has a very cinematic feel with nice depth! only post on it so you don't feel its your settings or the display

Ya, I'm not sure what all of the excitement was about since the Dolby Vision feature was known in January......I was wondering what was at the core of the excitement. Hopefully these companies will get on this soon......more titles coming out next month etc.

I have grown to read blu-ray review from a few sites before watching, kinda gives you an idea of what to expect, and I noticed the GITS reviews kinda leaning toward that odd raised black level. That gave OLEDs hell too.

As far as my settings, I can post tomorrow but they are mostly stock with the added suggestions between here and the ZD9 thread. Luckily the 940E is close accurate from stock.
