I am not sure DV will be huge on higher nit displays. I think it offers the opportunity to be more accurate out of the box, but still needs to be calibrated.

I need some help with ARC. I just set up my new 940e with a Denon receiver that I already own. It definitely has ARC capability. I connected with a brand new HDMI cable to HDMI3 but I can't seem to get it to work.

Has anyone had success with this? Is there some setting on the 940e that I am missing?

Thanks

Which Denon reciver? Did you change HDMI 3 on your TV to enhanced? HDMI cable certified?
Assuming you are running your other components into your reciver first?

I have an X2300 with ARC working with a 940E. Did you enable the ARC settings on both the TV and the receiver, then power cycle both devices? What are your ARC setting for both?

We recently re-arranged our TV Room furniture and now will be sitting about 12' away. We have a 60" Samsung KS8000 that I like a lot but will be too small for the space. I just pulled the trigger on 940E and will be delivered in 10 days when I get back from a short trip. I am very excited.

Does anyone have tips for using the specific Sony mount or going with a different brand/type?

I sit 12 feet away went from a 65 to the 940 and it was a noticeable difference.
I went with the Sony mount SUWL830. I felt the mount was an easy installation and very sturdy. My tv is about an 1 1/2 from the wall. Overall very happy with it.
The part that attaches to the TV is connected to the main bracket in a specific spot with pre-drilled holes so the whole thing needs to be centered. Once it is mounted, you can't move the TV side to side.
I am using the monoprice hdmi cables. They are very thick and not very pliable. Otherwise probably could have it even closer to the wall.

So guys what's processing your video?

Are you using the Sony 940e or an outboard source. I've been testing out the Oppo 203 but for the most part it's been the 940e. I still need to get an updated test disc when they become available and will wait until DV is implemented for a while in the field before calibration but out the box and 10k's settings seem to look spot on for now but a dedicated calibration will tell all.

DV is at least 20-30% better than HDR10 from what I've read and also stated by Sony's product manager. More colors, tone, contrast and it's dynamic by scene. Do you have links of the reviews that state it isn't very noticeable?

That's what I've heard as well, the dynamic by scene is probably going to be the biggest improvement over HDR10 the rest will be icing on the cake

I have used both on my OLED, and HDR10 looks better actually. BUT, HDR10 mode is pro cal'd and DV has no adjustment. The 2017's seem to be getting calibration abilities with Calman and DV, so I assume level playing field DV would be better. As with anything, it isnt cut and dry.

The only time I've seen it was at my local high end AV store a couple of weeks ago. They showed a side-by-side LG branded video on an OLED and the difference was stunningly, significant. I have no idea if it was calibrated for DV but I know one thing. I have to have it! -)

so i sat at best buy for for like 2hrs because I need a tv since I am returning my lg 65c7. i originally went today to go buy the 940e. However I couldn't get my eye off the a1e... so i bought it and got they knocked $100 off and gave me 3 year no interest compared to the 2.

now I'm home... and sitting here in my room going....damnit did I buy the right thing? Should I have gotten the 75 940e because of the extra 10 inches(same price).... ugh..... this has been worst tv buying experience ever after dealing with LG's BS and all this debating...

Bigger is usually better. Personally, I prefer the 940 over the OLED and the size is a bonus.

gone through multiple panels... i can't stand the uniformity. i don't wanna watch movies and play games with black jail bars on the screen. LG says it's normal, even after they replaced the panel.

You do know the A1E uses the same LG panels, correct?

I'll be in the same boat around black Friday but need a larger TV for the great room in the new house and as tempting as the OLED's are, the extra 10" makes it no contest for me. The 77" OLED is out of the budget and as great as the OLED's pictures are, I've learned over the years I'll give up a lot including perfect blacks for better uniformity and both the 900e & 940e seem to much less problematic in that regard. And a 75" set will be so much more fitting in the large space it makes the decision easy for me. So it will be one of those two TV's when I do buy.

Just got home after visiting the local Best Buy store where i FINALLY placed my order for a Sony XBR-75X940E, YEAH !

Before even owning the beauty i ordered a 30 feet long Monoprice Slimrun AV HDR HDMI cable, which is one the very few HDMI cables over 25 feet long that passes any/all 4K signals without any compromises according to Arrow AudioVisual which did an exceptional job testing HDMI cables - available on AVS Forum section for HDMI Q&A; Also ordered from Amazon a Tripp Lite LC2400 power conditioner / automatic voltage regulation / surge suppressor just to be on the safe side, plus yet another ethernet cable, this time 25 feet long.

This way i am hopefully all set to go when Best Buy delivers and installs the set on September 8th.

yeah i know. the actual sony district rep was there and I showed him the pics of my LG and expressed concerns and he told me that Sony can not say who the panel is made by but we all know who. He let me torture test his A1E there and it had 95% less problems than the two LG's I've had....

940e still on my mind though.

I was in your position and almost came home with the 65 Z9D but at that size most likely the A1E,its just a beautiful set! I just can't configure my setup past the position its in due to the golden ratio for audio (extreme 2/ch fetish) and coming from an 73" Dlp going back was that much harder, so the 940E it was and great thing is the PQ,size (even though 2" more than the Dlp but the screen was flat and not concaved) was beyond my dreams once home and my previous displays prior to were top of the line CRT's (Pioneer Elite 57 and 64" hdtv) if you can get closer then by all means keep the A1E but if that screen size difference get's to you and the forum pressure I'd take steps to see if a clear return path is possible.

I'm willing to bet if that screen issue you had with the LG is taken care of with the A1E and watching it for awhile your gonna keep it!

Have fun and enjoy which ever

I got it wall mounted today by BB. Wow! what a pic in 4K. DTV is not as sharp as my old Panny but it's close. I'm getting the 4K Genie on Monday. I know you get a couple of 4K channels but I'm not sure if the 1080i is improved at all. I watched some 4K YouTube and it worked great via the X800. My wife just got home and we're going to watch Planet Earth 2 tonight. I need to justify my expenditure.

Anyway, I'm not going to look for problems. If I see something watching whatever, I'll check it out. I'm not going to return it four times because of slides. So far, so awesome!

Apologies for the lazy question.

I’m wondering if the issues of the 940D have been resolved with the 940E?

Namely the motion issues of objects on white, dark corners, cloudy, etc?

Since day 1 I’ve had these issues, hoping an update might resolve them.

To add to this, about 2 weeks ago I noticed I have a group of 3 stuck (red) pixels.

They’re dead center on the screen.

Yup - that did the trick - thanks.

Also, the Denon was set to default to 'HDMI Control' on Output2 for some reason. Also, that setting is in the video section not the audio section which took me some time to find it.

Thanks again!

Question, my DTV looks as good, or maybe better, leaving "Enhanced 4K" on. I konw it says to only turn on with a 4K source, but does it hurt anything to leave it on?

It only hurts your eyes because the picture looks so good . Seriously, I leave it on all the time but my source is an Nvidia Shield not a DTV.
