I've been reading alot of info on this thread with great interest as I'm close to pulling the trigger on the 940E. I too went to Best Buy and spent an hour playing with different settings on this TV and couldn't get any sports programming to look very good. In fact, much cheaper TVs looked much better. This is my main concern as we will watch about 95% of our programming as std HiDef and not 4k source material. We use DirecTV.
The main issue I had was a lot of artifacts around details like faces, names on jerseys, etc and the detail just wasn't there. I tried to get them to force 720p resolution from the DirecTV box but every time we tried, it would force to 1080p and I know that the material wasn't 1080P - most likely 1080i which didn't help I would think. However, again, many of the other TVs looked much sharper with less artifacts. Supposedly the feed was going through an Atlona matrix so they were all getting the same source. I also noticed the Z9 had the same issue.
I was excited about the 940E due to the X1 extreme chip and the reviews saying the upscaling was very good but I didn't see that for myself at Best Buy. Again, I tried a bunch of different settings but really just randomly adjusted things as I don't know what most of the settings or their names mean (thanks Sony marketing!).
I was particularly interested in hearing your thoughts and experience
since it looks like you've had the TV for about a month and had the same experience I did at Best Buy but would love to hear from anyone else with specific suggestions for maximizing DirecTV standard HiDef on this TV.
Any thoughts, advice, recommendations, etc? Thanks in advance!

Plan is to upgrade from 65" Pani VT60 to 940E as I think 75" will really enhance my HT experience. This 4K model and frankly many look fantastic with 4 K content and I am sure this will be an very obvious upgrade over the VT60.
What I am concerned about is watching 1080i xfinity content i.e. ESPN, Football, etc...
When I was at BB today I had them switch to their DTV feed and it really looked quite lame!.
Maybe it was just their feed and the fact that it probably has many splitters connected to feed all the TV's.
So can I get some feedback on your experience with non 4k content?
thanks in advance..
also any suggestions on blu ray players would be cool.
