Oh wow and available local too! really want oled but since i don't plan to put it on the wall i wonder how much it matters with HDR being a thing.

Does anyone this the P65 is worth it for the extra hdmi port and more local dimming for a $500 premium?

TV = 60EH6000
Receiver = AVR-2312

Probably be best just to wait for a rtings.com review. At a $1200 list price the M65-E0 should hit <$1k on sale in no time.

The E65-E1 looks good for the price. Judder free 24p playback. It's really a tossup between these two models for me.

I wasn't sure from the article, but are these shipping with the new firmware with the on screen UI? Or at least getting the update right away?

So if the only main difference is in software, which according to the article the 2016 models will also get... there's lirttle to zero actual benefit in getting a 2017 Vizio M or P model vs a 2016 M or P. Correct or no?

Correct, for the P Series. 2017 M Series, however, has better hardware than 2016 M Series.

Question, but how much better. Sometimes newer isn't always better... But most of the time it is with electronics.

Correct. Love or hate the tablet remote, one could argue the 2016 is better simply because it comes with a tablet.

@Jasonn B

rtings has a review up on the new M series. Although the overall score is about the same, I think that the 2017 M is a superior display for everything that has to do with HDR and watching movies.
The majority of score-hits it takes has to do with the fact it's a 60Hz panel and that there's no more low-latency port.
It has much better brightness for highlights (possibly brighter than the P for small highlights) and it has wide color gamut (same as P series).
But it's down to 32 led zones, it doesn't have HDMI 5 low latency port, and all models come with a 60Hz panel (it still does 24P properly though).
So it's a bit of a trade off. I'm thinking about upgrading my M55-C2 (2015) to the new model.

Judging by my M55-C2, which also has 32 zones, the reduced amount of zones is only really a 'problem' when you have a bright logo on a dark background, and you're watching in the dark. (there's some blooming around it)
In a bright room or content without any bright logos, it still looks great.

This is probably a stupid question but now that they upgraded the hardware on the M, what sets the P apart? In Canada the P is 2700 while the M is 1700 yet when you go through the specifications (pretty small list on Costco) there appears to be no difference. Doesn't seem worth it to splash $1000 extra for nothing?

The 'C' in P65-C1 stands for 2015 (2016 model), the 'E' in a P65-E1 stands for 2017.
The 2017 M series has a wide color gamut, it reaches double the brightness for HDR highlights. It's just a better HDR display overall.
It's no longer geared towards gamers, thus no more low latency HDMI 5 port, only 60Hz panel.
I guess that to differentiate it more from the P series they also decided to cut down on the amount of LED zones from 64 down to 32.

The 'C' in P65-C1 stands for 2015 (2016 model), the 'E' in a P65-E1 stands for 2017.

So is there a better hardware[gusts] in the E series. I could return mine to CC, if they are now offering the E' series.
However, I do not think there is better hardware in the P65-C1 vs the E. maybe the software is upgraded.
But- i would like to know-- Matt????

No, hardware wise both of the SmartCast P series displays are identical. The 2016 M and 2017 M series are very different though.
The model name was changed mostly for marketing reasons, such as the XLED Pro and other abbreviations, as well as the 2017 sets now come with the new IR remote instead of the Android tablet.

The 2017 M seems to come closer to the goal of providing a premium-level 4k/HDR experience at a mid-level price. But some of that improvement seems to come as a trade for slightly reduced SDR performance. Only the buyer can decide it this tradeoff is a step up. Obviously, avoiding the tradeoff means stepping up to a premium TV, as one would expect.

I agree. I would personally have no problem with that. Since I want to upgrade my excellent M55-C2 to a HDR capable set, the reduced amount of led zones compared to the 2016 series would not bother me (the 2015 set has 32 zones too), same with the 60Hz panel, besides these two things it should be one heck of an upgrade.

I do wonder, why do you care about the reviews on the 2017 samsungs if the 2016 is the one you are interested in O.o KS8000 is still a great TV, you just run a chance at getting one with backlight bleed and uniformity issues, aside from that the samsung beats the vizio in nearly every category.
Casting is great for a lot of things but watching movies/TV, etc (whether it's streaming Netflix or playing local content) it is a very poor way to watch in my opinion. BTW, I am very tech savvy as I've had and built computers since 1983. I used a Chromecast on my primary TV for a long time and got tired of all the things I needed to do anytime I watched anything. I replaced it with a Roku and it is much better. Vizio isn't going away from the Chromecast because it was great - they're going away from it because they got large numbers of complaints about it. You still have your Chromecast but the rest of us can just watch our content (streaming or local) without having to fumble with a Phone, Tablet or computer. You need to be a little more balanced with your advice.

I just bought a M50-E1 and I'm SO disappointed. The set does 4K, 60Hz and HDR but not all at the same time? lol wtf how deceptive. Is the P50-C1 what I'm looking for?

No, legit, it cannot do it. If I have it set to 4k 60hz in the nVidia control panel and then try to enable HDR it either kicks it down to 30hz, reduces the resolution or the TV just goes black and displays nothing. I also can't get it to do 4:4:4 8bit chroma at 60hz either. It'll only do 4:4:4 at 30. So weaksauce. It's like a car with a turbo that only works in first gear. Yeah it technically has a turbo so...

Also make sure that you enable UHD Color for the input your PC is connected to.
It has to be on HDMI 1, of course.
