Maybe the reviews will prove me wrong, but I highly doubt it.
Well, according to Rtings' review of the S305 which is TCL's extremely cheap budget TV for 2017, "the black uniformity of the S305 is very good", with a standard dev. of 1.304% and "the S305 has a very good contrast ratio", at 3500:1 native. The P Series is marketed as higher end, and also has FALD, so I honestly can't imagine that it won't have at least decently "good" black levels.

For comparison, the Vizio P Series according to Rtings has a standard dev. of 0.5% for black uniformity, and around 5500:1 contrast ratio. The Samsung KS8000 has a standard dev. of 1.319% for black uniformity, and 6900:1 contrast ratio. The Sony X900E has contrast ratio of about 5400:1 and 1.203% (without local dimming turned on). So, considering how cheap the TCL S305 is and it still gets 3500:1, I think it's pretty reasonable to assume the higher end P Series will have a contrast ratio at least somewhere around 5000:1, and considering the P Series' price vs a Vizio/Sony/Samsung, that seems pretty dang good to me.

LG uses IPS panels in their LED TV's lol. I also am not convinced they can match vizio local dimming, but hey guess we wont know til reviews hit

According to CNET the 65P607 should be here in the later part of the year. Guess I'll order that OPPO-203 now.

P-Series has local dimming, C-Series does not. Article states that the 65" local dimming model will be $999, but then later says TBD. I'm only slightly confused.
Quote:
$999 for a 65″ 72-zone Dolby Vision-capable HDR TV is amazing, considering the technologies contained within including the excellent Roku OS.
Quote:
The C-series comes in 55″ (55C807, $699), 65″ (65C807, $1099) and 75″ (75C807, $1999) sizes. Meanwhile the P-Series will ship in 50″ (50P607, price TBD), 55″ (55P607, $649), and 65″ (65P607, price TBD*) screen sizes. At launch the 55″ P-Series will sell for a promotional price of $599.
I'll just say this - big, cheap screen with integrated Roku (great!) and support for WCG, DV HDR? Yeah, this will likely be the TV I recommend to my parents and anyone else looking for a TV that "just works". Now if it also supports HLG, then it's about as good as one could expect. The picture quality and motion handling would have to be really terrible for me to not want one.

Any word about a tuner? They say it's a "TV", which implies that it does...

Yes, it does have a tuner, and the Roku OS even has live TV pausing capability!

SO looking forward to this. This set is nearly a perfect representation of what I am looking for in a TV. I love my Vizio P series but the Roku interface is just so clean. Plus if you have a streaming IPTV service as a cable alternative you get everything in a single remote

TV via the remote, Streaming via the remote, and "Cable" via the remote if you use something like Vue or Sling. Instead of having a cable remote, tv remote, and a streaming/OTT box remote a set like this can be all of those in one. COmbine that with HDR, FALD, and WCG....I am very much looking forward to the impressions/reviews on this.

Neither tv has been seen, measured or used yet, so anything anyone says will be speculation. Don't make up your mind yet.

I can get measurements and calibrations done pretty quickly. Unlike my 2-part Q9F review, I'll start with the measurements of this TV, instead of ending with them. Days, not weeks, for calibration reports of the 55".

I don't know if there will be a separate forum thread. The results will go into a homepage post, which I usually link to from a forum thread, be it existing or new. K... back to work. This is one hot TV and I don't want to leave it sitting there!!!

The Vizio M65-E0 is available now for $1200 list, so unless it reviews terribly, there won't be a competitor in its price range for a while. I was hoping the TCL P65 would be out now but it seems Nov is more realistic. TCL's loss I guess.

For myself (and probably many others) im looking at this as a potential secondary set to accompany my js9500 - interested for the D.V., FALD, and possible bang for buck value - oh and curious about input lag.

Can't wait for initial impressions!

I'm also very curious about input lag. Rtings measured pretty decent lag on the 2017 S series (super budget line) so I'm relatively hopeful for the P Series!

Super excited. Really hope it delivers. If it's solid I'm gonna just have to probably bite the bullet and get the 55" instead of the 50". Don't think I can wait till the end of the year for that.
