Doug, I don't know if you're still looking, but I bought a 55C803 from Costco on Maui last week for $449. I'm very happy with it. 4k HDR is stunning and the Roku interface is easy enough for my non-techie wife to switch from OTA channels, HDMI webcam input, PLEX and normal Roku channels without fretting. I can't see any edge dimming problems. everyone gets a different piece of hardware and tastes vary (and some folks like watching the spec sheet more than the screen).

Our main TV is an 80" Sharp and I have to say the TCL is an extremely decent option for a low cost TV. Good luck with your search.

I don't know that much but seems like there might be some improvements evidenced in this thread. Costco best bet. I have fun going in to see what is on sale etc. It would be a true nightmare to ship a TCL P in and it have a horizontal line or whatever. Plus, I haven't found anyone who will SHIP to my zipcode. Pleasures of living on an island. 20 minute drive to costco in case of problems is where it's at. They have a new manager that likes to do clearance on TV's and keep em moving. So here is hoping the P series comes to Costco, maybe that is what 2018 will bring?

Calibrating 55c803

I've played around with picture settings for the 55c803 but can't get it to to look as good as many are saying. Could someone post calibration settings?

Thanks

Thanks, mpp I think at this point I am going to wait for either the Black Friday, or wait till Superbowl time to pick something up. If I see the price match of 449$ again then chances are I will go for that(plus much easier to return to local costco and squaretrade) as it seems to me with my limited access. I just contacted a clearing house who told me through live chat that they will ship to me so,,, If I were to find a nice 49" Sony 900e for a deal in the season I would probably go that route. You get OTA? We don't

How's the panel lottery situation with this screen these days? Looks like I can get a 607 from amazon cheaper than I can get the 605 from best buy due to 10% coupon, but if there's a chance I need to return it I'd rather use the local best buy. Can't make up my mind.

Im confused here. Your saying you can get the 607 from Amazon for $585 after a 10% off coupon? What is that coupon and where do I find it?

On second glance, it's closer to a 6% discount (bringing it to $609.69); it's the "move promo" discount since I moved recently. Supposed to be %10 but they don't apply it to everything so I can't complain. But for some reason they're quoting me less than the usual state tax, to where the total comes out to two bucks less than what I'd pay for a 605 at BB.

I just received my 607 from Amazon 2 weeks ago. While I haven't bothered to test for light bleed yet, I doubt I will anyway. I'm more than satisfied with the image quality vs price paid

there's always a chance but since demand is so high there isn't much incentive to discount the P607.

Will these TV's pass Dolby Atmos in from HDMI 1/2 (from an Xbox One X for example) out through HDMI 3 (ARC) to a soundbar that supports Atmos?

It does pass Atmos from the internal VUDU app to my Marantz receiver via ARC HDMI 3, so I'd think so.

I know, I know this has been asked before, but I'm trying to decide between the "C" and the "P". The 55" C is at Costco for $449 and the "P" is at Costco for $150 more. Is FALD vs. Edge worth $150 more? Also, what is the difference from the BestBuy 605 vs. the Amazon 607?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, FALD is much better.

According rtings P605 and P607 are exactly the same the only difference being the remote. Going by my personal experience 607’s remote is easily worth the extra $50.

Are you sure the P is available at Costco? I am only aware of them selling the C and S.

607 has remote with private listening option 605 only has standard IR remote.

Can’t speak to actual appearance of C vs P being worth it. I only have experience with C

Do you, or anyone else, have a source capable of pumping Atmos into HDMI 1 or 2, and see if it outputs and pops up on your ARC-Atmos-Capable Receiver/Soundbar? I was leaning towards an LG OLED, but certain models only pass through Atmos-via-ARC on the Internal Apps, not devices connected to HDMI ports. I really need to get this figured out because I'm drawing up a diagram and having a builder hardwire a new house for me, and want to make sure I'm telling him right. My dang SJ9 soundbars only have one HDMI input, so I'm hoping I can run two devices into these TV's into HDMI 1/2 and output over HDMI 3 to the soundbar.

FWIW I have both a P607 from Amazon and the C803 from Costco and am happy to watch them both. I'm not overly picky though, and I'm especially happy that I picked up the C series for $450. I wouldn't have paid more for it than the P series.

I don't really miss the extra remote features on the C series. We just use our phones more with that TV.

I think really it's just going to come down to what's more important to you. GL deciding!

Very tempted at the price at Costco for the C803, yea I know it doesn't have FALD but coming from a 9 year old Toshiba 46xv640u how bad can it be? Planned on picking up a 4k Blue ray on Black Friday and going with 4K through Directv. Most of the stuff we watch is through Directv, Netflix, or the Amazon firestick, which will have to be updated for the 4K model.

You NEED UHD Blu-ray as streaming still doesn't hold a candle to discs (and broadcast TV never will), and given that these units are Dolby Vision capable, I would just bite the bullet, splurge, and get the Oppo 203. Such a solid universal disc player with stellar response from Oppo about updates, and it has enough processing oomph for a few rounds of UHD Blu-ray feature add-ons! It's never on sale unless they maybe throw in free express shipping during the holidays.

I'm using the P607 as a tied-me-over (then it will become a secondary display) and the Oppo couples with it beautifully. Dolby Vision content looks great considering it's a budget TV. The first two Despicable Me UHD discs are stunning in 12 bit DV.

Listen up, studios! Dolby Atmos Lite™ print-outs must stop!!

This is largely my plan as well! My original intention was to use the P607 for only about 6-7 months, waiting for a specific sale next May. However, thr P607 is good enough that I'm going to give my credit card a rest and keep it an additional year before looking at an OLED. When that time does come, the P607 will become a wall-mounted bedroom display; FAR from obsolete.

I haven't managed to convince myself to cough up the cash for an OPPO 203, but it's probably just a matter of time before I cave in. I wholeheartedly agree that streaming is definitely behind the curve compared to using physical media, particularly on the audio side (as I don't have a DV player yet to compare).

Good to know Dan, thanks for the advice. Most of the discs we watch are from Redbox and I don't think they have UHD disks yet. The Oppo 203 is on the list but just convincing the wife to upgrade the TV is a start so not going to mention the 203 just yet. Going to look at the C803 this weekend as for that price and warranty I can't resist.

Not really a discount but BB has a deal right now where you get a $15 GC for every $150 GC purchased. I think you can buy up to 3 per email account. The only catch is the $15 GC is not valid until 12/1 and is time limited. Still, 4 of these is effectively 10% off so better than nothing.

Do you have a link for that? When did that start? My sister purchased this set just a couple of weeks ago. Will that be applied?

Going to look at the C803 this weekend as for that price and warranty I can't resist.

I hope your Costco is at least playing 4K content on the 803. Mine was and the TV looked really nice compared to the Vizio next to it. Another Costco I went to had all the TVs playing a cable news feed and all of the TVs (even the $2500 ones) looked terrible.
