Since TCL is responding to your questions, can you ask them:

Will the 65 perform like the 55? Any differences besides size?

Why is the 65 delayed vs the 55?

Contrast drop-off measurements...

The "viewing cone" outside of which black levels are double what they are head-on = 38 degrees, which is 19 degrees off-axis (so it's easy to compare with rtings). For whites, it's a 64-degree cone, or 32 degrees off-axis where levels drop to half of peak.

At the far edge of that 64-degree cone, native contrast ratio is 900:1, which is just a smidgen under IPS contrast ratio, fwiw. You get better than IPS contrast within a 60-degree cone (30 degrees off-axis).

These numbers (well aside from the "wow" on-axis native contrast) are fairly typical for VA panels, and therefore quite exciting in the context of this TV.

Is that a thing? I'm generally pretty cynical so I wonder....

Either way I got in on the preorder window so it is too late for me to be a downer. I'll just tell the skeptical side of my brain to shut up and enjoy the new tv high.

I don't know about TV's but Samsung is famous for sending reviewers phones that have software on them to make them perform better.

With so many of these shipping so soon, it would be counter-productive to send me a TV that does not share the performance specs of what ships from Amazon.

We'll know soon. But some things you can't fake, like what a solid platform for a TV Roku is, and how easy that makes it to calibrate it so well. And look, 72-zone FALD is not bad even at a considerably higher price.

An interesting point, this TV does not perform any tricks. TVs that do highlight peaking, with variation in peak whites based on window size, what's playing, and how long the brightness is on screen ....

This TV has none of that. Just 600 nits in any window size no matter what. No software trickery where it recognizes test patterns and boosts, earlier I described how I specifically tested to see if the back light stays on when local dimming is off.

Is the way the Roku OS is built in basically a Premier+ or Ultra built into the TV itself or is it less responsive than the stand alone versions?

Given that it supports dolby vision, its at least as powerful as the roku premiere +.

Flies through the menus really fast, the responsiveness is the first thing I noticed, and I've been using Roku's for a while. Absolutely on par with those models.

I am probably in the minority on this one (at least on this forum) but i also wish these were chromecast displays rather than roku lol. Not a big deal tho with the CC ultra's existence.
I own the TCL 40S305 and for the money (it is TV in a small office) it has excellent picture and the Roku TV interface is excellent. It was only $269 for a nice 1080P TV. Looking forward to the 65" debut and review.

The Roku TV is the set top box you would give to grandmother who doesn't want to know anything about technology. Having it built in to the TV (so you don't have to turn something else on) is even better. It has just about every possible TV service (Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Video, MLB, NHL, NFL, ESPN 1,2,3,etc, and many more than I can think of) and they are very easy to delete or add to your home screen. It is the best value for the money and I expect their 4K offerings would probably have similar value.

if Mark's results are in line with production units, then why is anyone worried. This will at the very least be on par with the Vizio P55, but with better blacks since it is VA vs IPS.

In 2016, outside of OLED, the KS8000 and P55 were the best bang for the buck 55" models that one could get. KS has clouding and banding issues and the P55 couldn't get as bright. Other than the Samsung and Vizio having 120 Hz and Samsung reaching higher peak Nits (not sustained), where is the down side for this TV?

Seems to be more upside across the board.

Im personally worried about local dimming performance and uniformity. I will return a TV if there is any light bleed whatsoever or cloudiness on a fully black screen. And for local dimming, i really need to see more to make the purchase.

This weekend I'm looking at FALD performance. Real content that I've seen on top-tier TVs, plus torture tests with patterns.

But that has been the issue, unless you go OLED, its a compromise. As long as the uniformity is good and FALD is well implemented then we might have a winner.

I had the 2016 M with 64 zones and it was that much better with dark scenes than the Ks8000, but the KS8000's color gamut won me over. Can this TV offer the best or at least the better of both worlds?

Here's an odd request for you. Can you see whether this TV will accept a 50Hz signal (from a PC or a European bluray)?
Vizio with their 2.x.x.x firmware accepted 50Hz, but killed it in their 3.x.x.x FW. I wonder whether TCL, being a company that sells TVs worldwide, have support for 50Hz signal on this model.

Vizio M55-C2 (Ex) | Calibration + Settings

Just ordered one of these in 55' from Amazon this afternoon. Current estimate for delivery window is between August 9th to August 28th.
Is this window a good estimation? June shipping is no longer available?

Awesome, thanks!
I know that Vizio never had 50Hz listed as an option, but it did work if it was fed a 50Hz signal.
After the 3.x.x.x update I just get "Unsupported format". So even if it's not in the EDID, maybe 'forcing' it would work.
