hey guys - i just bought the p605 from best buy and having it delivered this weekend. i will be hooking up to directv (no internet) and wanted to know about the setup. since i won't be using an internet connection, is there an easy way to skip through all that during initial setup? and for those of you using directv, does your remote recognize this tv?

I remember someone mentioning in a post that the screws were too small for them to use with their wall mount, and recommended another set of screws?

I should have taken a picture, I know I got them at Lowes and was pretty easy to find.

Youtube HDR is wonderful also. Just some Netflix DV shows such as Stranger Things II and The Defenders come out too dark. I had to adjust the Gamma settings to make it acceptable.

Overall this is a good set, especially for the price.
Same for me. My hope is that Dolby Vision being fairly new, it will improve as software/encoding gets updated, Pacific Rim on Vudu is DV and looks fantastic / not nearly as dark, so the TV is definitely capable of showing a better image.

So its the TV and not Netflix DV itself (i.e. Stranger Things S2 looks fine on your oled)?

Just got the 8.0 update. For those that use PS Vue, the update to it is significant. Feels very similar to the PS4 version, and didn't lag much. Granted I only used it for 10 minutes or so but my initial impressions are positive.

As far as 8.0 itself, I haven't really had a chance to watch a lot of stuff yet so no real impressions of it.

Philips BDP7502 UHD Bluray Player
Apple TV 4K - 32GB

Hey all, did anyone here come from owning the last generation of Panasonic plasmas (e.g. ST/VT/ZT) and can comment on the picture quality comparison of this P Series from experience?

Anyone else experiencing the annoying bug where the sharpness settings keep resetting? I hate sharpness, but almost every time the TV turns back on, it is back up to default level, even though it says it is 0. I move the setting to 1 then 0 again and the sharpness is gone. I have had 3 of these tvs and this settings reset happened with all three. Before this latest update (ver. 8) however, it was more often with the Contrast local dimming setting. It would still say HIGH in the settings, but I simple toggle from HIGH to OFF back to HIGH again would drop Black levels and thus cloud levels profoundly. I have scanned this forum thread and not found any mention of this. Please tell me I didn't just receive the only 3 units in the world that experience this?

I have a ST and Samsung H5000 and if comparing equal metrics (ie not 4k or HDR) the plasmas win but specifically with black levels during the day and motion.

Both of these seem to be known bugs. I've experienced both at various times but haven't been able to figure out how to reproduce it consistently. I also recall a few others posting about it. I believe someone had tweeted at Rtings and they confirmed the sharpening bug in their testing. I can't find the tweet though.

I would suggest notifying TCL support as its probably something that should be able to fixed via future firmware update. The more reports they have the better:

How much win? haha

I'm just worried i'll regret replacing my plasma with this. I would use this as a holdover until I get an OLED when HDR content becomes more available in the next year or two. Or I can just keep my plasma.

Is there any way to save different white balance profiles in the Roku app? Kind of makes it impossible to compare different settings when I have to start over from scratch every time.

I think it is Netflix DV too as it is a little dark on the OLED but since it is a much better and more expensive TV, it handles DV better. So really its a combo of both. The OLED has the best picture of any TV I've ever seen so it sets the standard for me. But its a whole lot more money.

I still have a plasma as my bedroom TV. The viewing angles and motion are better than the TCL but I knew that going in.

The TCL has its limitations but is the best TV in its price range and probably a bit more.

I've watched 4K HDR discs and they look great on the TCL but since my player doesn't do DV I can't test that out. Waiting for a re-release of the DV update for the LG player.

So I notice this on my TCL and Vizio as well when on load screens or menus of certain apps. See the white splotches upper and lower right. Dark photo makes them more pronounced then they are but is this because Fald is not on in these screens?

Don't notice issues when movies are playing but thought I would ask

Not sure why it is but it is normal. Fald is never active in the roku ui. It only engages when you start streaming video content in an app.

If you’re only watching 1080p content, you would be better off keeping the plasmas. The only reason I upgraded is because I recently bought a PS4 Pro and I also have the Netflix account that streams 4k. Next year the H5000 might get upgraded also but I’ve been very happy with the PQ on that one so no rush.

Just took delivery of the P605 today and right off the bat it updated to 8.0. I also share the same sentiment as others that DV content on Netflix is very dark. I set it to DV Bright + TV Brightness: Brighter and backlight: 100 and it does look pretty good though there is slight black crush. I have also seen the white flash but only once. Other than that, this is a very nice TV when it comes to 4k and HDR content. Rewatched an episode of Stranger Things 2 and wow. Resogun in HDR on PS4 looks crazy good.

They're M6 screws (in the manual).. I just used some I had in the garage with some washers for spacers to fit.

No splotches on my tv but I do notice a very slight backlight bleed on both of the bottom corners. I didn't really notice until I looked at it closely.

I came for a 55" VT60. Some things definitely better on the TCL, I never could seem to get hockey to the way I wanted on the VT60. Much better on the TCL though I will notice some of the dirty screen effect at times, but I noticed on the VT60 as well. Overall I have been happy with the switch. If there were NO dirty screen effect, and the Netflix DV looked a littler brighter as previously mentioned I would 100% recommend. I still recommend...but the set is not perfect.

This. Although I came from an LG plasma my sentiment is much the same. I am enjoying the TCL much better for gaming as well (latency is much better).

Other than some occasional DSE I really like the set overall and I am happy with the upgrade, but it is not perfect.

I found the clip below helpful in understanding what is going on with HDR content and why some content being too dark is just a choice of the director and cinematographer and not always a failure of the TCL HDR set. It doesn't change the fact that some Netflix DV content is too dang dark, but you just have to adjust picture setting to BRIGHT HDR and maybe bump Gamma from 2.2 to 2.0 to compensate.

If you compare this tv to oled tvs (for example), this tv has higher sdr brightness and higher hdr brightness over oled sdr. But this doesn't explain why HDR is lower than SDR for TCL nor which is correct or preferred vs OLED. Regardless if you apps fix they're washout issues then you should be able to increase the backlight and brightness without losing picture quality. The latest youtube app is stunning now in HDR. You can increase the brightness without losing picture quality while keeping the gamma at normal 2.0 to 2.2.

What are some good settings for watching sports on cable and/or 1080p streaming?
