How you doing SD?
First, it’s never too early. Second, like I said, I cycled through the processing modes and double checked a bunch of times. Then I checked my ATV4K. When I went back to the TCL internal app it was back to 5.1. One of these days The Mouse will give us Atmos.

I have gotten my picture settings dialed in for regular video, HDR, but can't seem to find that sweet spot for DV content. Anyone have some DV settings they'd like to share please?

  • TV Brightness: NORMAL or BRIGHT
  • Picture Mode: BRIGHT DV
  • Color Temp: WARM
  • Gamma (via Roku app): 2.0 or 1.8

I pretty much leave the Backlight, Brightness, Contrast, Sharpness, Color and Tint to the defaults for that DV Picture Mode when first selected. Works pretty well for my viewing habits. Biggest change was adjusting the Gamma via Roku app from the default of 2.2 to either 2.0 or 1.8. That brought some of the way too dark treatments on some shows into a much better viewing level.

Purchased my 55P605 in Jan 2018 and today the black screen finally happened.

I tried a hard reset w/ the reset button and also tried the remote method w/ home/up arrow/rewind/ff buttons, neither work. Just a black screen (some backlight flashing) and with sound.

Fortunately, my CC has an extended warranty but I have literally days to get a written estimate within the allowable time period.

Are there other methods to get the picture back? I see references in some old posts but I can't seem to locate those particular posts with fixes/solutions. Can anyone point me to any of those?

TIA

Just got an update to Disney+ (Version 1.2 build 2020012800) on TCL Roku TV today. Have audio set to AUTO DETECT which picks up that my Vizio ATMOS soundbar supports Dolby Digital Plus and DTS. Fired up an episode of THE MANDALORIAN and soundbar lit up showing ATMOS support. As others have noted in a Roku forum support thread, audio has to be set to AUTO DETECT for it to work. Adjusted audio from AUTO DETECT to force DD+ and DTS and no longer had ATMOS on same episode. Switched it back to AUTO DETECT and back to ATMOS support.

I guess it was resolved before Christmas. Christmas 2020!! I'll take it...

hello everyone! i'm a bit late to the game (as usual) but finally got myself into the UHD+HDR tech! yay!

after i typically get a tech i typically make sure it's fully calibrated. from google, are these settings still current/best settings to use for optimal PQ?
https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tc...-2017/settings
https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/com...ture_settings/

or do you guys have any other links resources i can consult?

i dont have a dedicated UHD disc player yet, i'll get that eventually.

right now i'm streaming through prime/vudu/disney+/tv+ and the rest i'm using HTPC.

any best practice/tips would be helpful.

one thing i'm struggling with is the whole darker/dark/normal/bright/brighter settings... i just have no idea what to use?

i host a silent film podcast here:

so far, you haven't mentioned that you have actually done anything yourself, have you and if so, what do you think? i mean that in as much as you are the one looking at it. you mention darker/dark, etc. have you selected them and how do they look. i mean it says dark, darker, bright, brigher; what is it you need explained beyond what you see?

also, i'm curious, any reason you started out with an older model (didn't know you could still find these for sale) with lots of newer models available and at incredible cost savings?

glad you got into the "tech UHD/HDR" game hope you enjoy it and find settings that are good for you.

As an owner of a TCL P607, I would say it's a decent bedroom display, but as a main 4k TV... eh, not so much.

If you don't care about Dolby Vision support in your first 4k Blu-ray disc player, Best Buy has a deal on the Panasonic 420 for $150.

Listen up, studios! Dolby Atmos Lite™ print-outs must stop!!

It’s probably been at least that long since I used the Fire Stick 4K in my HT. Mainly use ATV and Shield in there. We use our Fire Stick much more in the living room where we have a 5.1 setup.

while i don't own a firestick, i know it's been resolved on Roku tv's for that period of time. disney + still has a couple of shows that list as ATMOS that only play in multichannel, so, they are at about 85% or so with getting everything right!

i can't wait for the next season of The Mandalorian!

At least Disney+ is working on it. Roku TV's were updated to ATMOS support in early February and now Fire TV Stick 4K devices are supported at the beginning of March. Perhaps Netflix will start to feel an urgency to add broader ATMOS support than they have in the past. If they are going to accept our monthly subscription fee for a premium priced tier for video and audio, they should feel some obligation to deliver both to our capable hardware and not just video!

So I want to replace the remote finally and get an RF one with voice. The Roku website has 3 different options, the RC460, 461 and 463. I can't tell which one would work with this TV, 605 version. I don't really need a headphone jack, so would that be the only difference? And if so should I get the 460 or 461?

Thank in advance for any info, been struggling to find this out.

I don't really need a headphone jack, so would that be the only difference? And if so should I get the 460 or 461?

Thank in advance for any info, been struggling to find this out.

btw i did end up getting 'calibrated' using the rting site.

color 45, nearly everything else default except:
gamma 2.0
noise reduction=off

i think the only setting that i'm a bit confused about it is backlight with regard to SDR. i've left it at 4, 20 or higher.... i dont really know what the 'best' setting is. the higher it goes the more it can seem blown out the whites.

if you google around it's the local dimming zone that's trying to adjust between light/dark scenes. but because it only has 72 zones vs. 144+ on newer models or other displays, it's way more noticeable on this TV than any of the others. ultimately you want it to be high that's when it is doing its job and you're getting use of the local dimming zone features. but if it bothers you visually either tune it to medium/low or disable it altogether. but turning it off disables a good feature imho.

Thanks, but how do you explain why this issue wasn't there before the last firmware update?

depends on content. i tend to notice this more in HDR10 vs. DV vs. SDR.

everyone has different sensitivity to it.
