The only solution I found was to turn on "game" mode for that input. This is fine, but it does say "less lag but worse picture". Of course the picture looks fine, but I'm wondering if I'm missing anything?

The PS3 is a launch-day unit, but the software is up to date. The HDMI cable is known to be good. Obviously (?) the picture is getting to the TCL just fine since it's good in "game" mode. Using HDMI input #2 on the tv (not the ARC HDMI #1).

I tried every setting on both the TV (HDMI mode 2.0, 1.4 etc) and on the PS3 (Bluray output YUV, RGB, Superwhite on/off, Deep color etc)

Any thoughts? This tv has no motion enhancements so I'm a little confused what's going on ...

I haven't seen anything wrong with streaming videos (Netflix, Youtube etc) even 4k stuff looks good. There is no "game" mode on streaming inputs... So far I don't have a cable box hooked up but will sometime soon..
The P60x also suffers from something similar (so does my M55-C2), so perhaps the S405 shares the same issue. When Noise Reduction is turned on it can cause blurring and ghosting. Try to turn that off, if it's available, and see if it helps. When you turn on Game Mode, you basically cancel most of the image processing the TV does, including noise reduction.

As The Coolest said, your issue sounds the same as the P607 issue that is caused by the Noise Reduction feature. However, I don't think you have access to those settings on the S405; for the p series the setting is located in the Expert Picture Settings in the Roku mobile app.

You can access the noise reduction setting on the S405 the same way in the mobile app.

I'm only having trouble with the arrow buttons in the WB setup. Did you try those two buttons specifically?

If I press the right arrow button several times, for example, it will go from 100%, 90%, 80% and, then, stop, as if frozen.

The support tech said it could be signal interference with other wireless devices. Waiting for them to get back to me.

I'll try the cable connection and see if that helps.

Thanks

I checked it before swapping it. Don't know what the issue was. It only would find the PS4 on hdmi 1.4

I'm using cnet settings, which look ok. Anyone have settings they'd like to share. I'm doing mostly DIRECTV viewing at 1080i. Thanks guys.

thanks, I thought I turned all that stuff off, but will check again.

I haven't been able to get the Roku app to work, but it may be because the tv is only connected to public Xfinity wifi (still waiting for internet to be installed at new house).

I picked up the PS4 Pro yesterday and everything is on Auto right now in the console. The only thing I did, on the TV, is change dimming from Off to High in Game mode, and select HDMI input 2.0

That is noise reduction. Use roku app to turn it off. If app says it is off and you are still seeing it, enable noise reduction and then turn it off again.

I never had this problem, while calibrating I went from 5% to 100% without ever encountering this issue. Went from 100% to 5% when entering values from an existing calibration.
It could be wifi lag, see if your neighborhood wifi channel is crowded (use inSSIDer free version to analyze your area's channel congestion).

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll check into that. Maybe even contact my cable provider.

Oh, man...never had to do this before, but it could be something as simple as me moving my router for better signal. I'll check this when I get home.

The Roku app does seem a bit buggy. Every time I open it, I get the error message stating "Roku service is not currently available, continue anyway?" I always continue anyway, and everything seems to work just fine. Never had any issues on the expert settings menu at least.

It says you can play things off a external drive but it never pops up or can't find option to go to the drive at all. It's a WD external that's powered through the usb and doesn't have external power. Is that the issue maybe. Drive works on anything else I plug it into, xbox or another samsung ks8000.

Unfortunately this TV appears to not have enough power going to the USB port to support external hard drives. It can do flash drives but not hard drives, for the most part. If you can get one of those split USB cords that also goes to a power outlet (or a wall USB charger maybe?) that might work.

The tv is extremely fussy. I tried an external ssd (no power required) and I didn't work. Tried a LaCie external ssd it worked fine. Tried 2 different 128gb usb3.0 drives one worked one didn't.

Media playback was also hit or miss.

I'm still looking for someone to post their gaming settings for picture.I used CNET's settings and it was all white washed when playing Destiny on the PS4. I couldn't concentrate on head shots as well. Ultimately I decided to use the "Sports" mode and the white cloudy glare went away. I also turned "game mode" on and turned the color down to 55 from like 60 or something. That's all I did, the sports mode has a more "blue" tent which I like coming from my Panasonic Plasma. Other than that I haven't seen any "general" settings that I really like. For example, in Destiny when loading into a PVP match, usually you can see the boots and legs clearly of all players but in CNET's movie mode settings their legs and feet were too dark and the blacks seemed crushed.

Let me know your thoughts.

Bump! I really want to play in HDR but maybe I have a bad taste because SDR looks so much better for me

Nah, no Oppo 203. this is where this hobby can get rally expensive if you stay on AVS too long. I contemplated a LG 65UH7700 as a local dealer had it for great price, plus it had HDR 10 and Dolby Vision but since it was an IPS panel it was not recommended in a dark room. The size would have been a nice upgrade but rtings.com didn't give it a great review. So I passed and picked up the TCL instead. I think I made the right choice.

Make sure you adjust the HDR Brightness option in the game as well. Makes a BIG difference.

Well, it's either the Oppo (a really good universal disc transport) or the LG (a cheaper, flimsier basic disc player with streaming apps) for Dolby Vision support as far as UHD Blu-ray players go. The LG should have an update soon.

The TCL is excellent in Dolby Vision mode as the dynamic HDR metadata coupled with tone mapping algorithms customized for this TV, help compensate for the display's budget panel deficiencies. Despicable Me 1 & 2 on UHD disc looked spectacular. I have the Oppo.
