My question is when the tv is in hdr or dd mode should I dial these settings in as well? Or are they for non hdr content?

I'm using my settings for HD, HDR, and DV content...probably not the right settings for all modes, but I'm enjoying these settings.

I am disappointed with TCL cancellation of the 65 inches. This just go to show they're not sure about their business management and plan. If you come out and said you're going to come out with the different models and TV size and then cancel them with no details explanation, that's bad for business and for consumers.

Second, i hope that they will use this opportunity to enhance the P series. They should address some of the complaints such as screen cracking, screen washed out, pixels...they should upgrade to a better screen with at least 120hz. Also, the cosmetic and the design of the TV leave a lot to be desired. It doesn't look that beautiful and elegant from the outside.

Yea I mean the settings look so far the truest to color I've seen out of the ones I used.

Anyone watch the defenders on Netflix last night/today? I watched the first episode in division through the tcl streaming app and then on my 2015 Samsung curved 4k non hdr set and it's just looks so much better on the older set. I can't explain it, just an overall brighter vivid image. It still has problems though due to netflix using so much grain with this show.

Do you guys think something is off with Netflix's end on the dv content?

I would hope everything you said is addressed with the delay. Otherwise they shot themselves in the foot.

No offense guys but this is a 55p607 owners thread, not a TCL forum. This thread is so convoluted it would be nice to see things stick to the 605/607.

I'll ask again has anyone else watched the defenders on Netflix in DV? Thoughts? I thought it looked better in standard 4k on my older Samsung.

Tried to watch a couple episodes in DV yesterday. Looks too dark to me. The 1080p stream looks better and my 8 year old plasma still looks better than this TV. But maybe plasma is just better overall?

Still playing with settings and ordered some premium HDMI cables so I can try my Roku Premeire + on this TCL.

Try this out...

Go to netflix.com >> Account >> Sign out of all your devices

Restart your TV through the system menu

Sign back into Netflix.

I did this and the white flashes are gone! Must be a Netflix issue with DV/HDR.

I'm on episode 5 and it looks fantastic to me. It's a dark show and this tv (P605) really has great blacks and dark scenes. I do have the white flashing but I signed out and restarted it and I'll see if it fixes it. I'm using DV dark, rtings WB settings, color space on auto.

Watching Daredevil (S2) on Netflix in Dolby Vision. Something seems....off with the picture. For some reason the black level seemed to rise. Gonna try some other content.

The TCL is a great value for what it is, but from what I've read the samsung ks8000 blows it out of the water picture quality and motion wise.
I had the KS8000 for a short while and I enjoy this tv more.

The main thing the KS8000 had over the TCL was how bright it could get, which made HDR scenes look great.

However it's not FALD and the ks8000 has really annoying blooming because of this, seeing a bright object in the top corner meant the entire screen from bottom to top got highlighted and, to me at least, it made watching dark movies and things a bit of a pain.

The TCL on the other hand with FALD on high the dark scenes look great and have no huge problems when it comes to blooming and flashlighting, at least from what I've seen.

ARC issue partially solved. After removing a raspberry pi and amazon fire from the receiver HDMI input ports ARC is working sort of(not sure which one is causing the issue yet). The TV now detects under CEC RX-V377 and Xfinity X1 devices on HDMI-3 and audio auto detects Dolby D+ and DTS. Now, I have an issue when going to Youtube app or any app from the TV. I hear no sound at all except the clicking noise from the TV app menu coming out of the receiver. When I try to play a video from YouTube I get no sound. I have to switch from AV4 to AV3 and back to AV4 from the receiver then I get sound from YouTube through the receiver. Cable TV works fine through the AVR. The only issue is with the TV apps sound. I have to do this every time I watch a video from any of the TV apps. My cable box is plugged into HDMI 1 on the AVR so when I go to YouTube the receiver automatically switches to AV4 which is how its suppose to work to play sound.

I don't watch sports, but I understand that dirty screen effect can be a big problem for sports viewing. My current panel which is a replacement for my original one has pretty bad DSE, so would probably be kind of awful for sports. I'm still considering exchanging again. My first panel had dead pixels, this one has DSE.

For whatever it's worth add me to the list of people who reported DV/HDR looks too dark. You have to jack up brightness to 56 to bring the crushed details back.

I will contact Roku and see what's happening with the controls.

Haven't heard back from customer support, but switching from 5 Ghz to 2.4 Ghz wireless network the response is noticeably smoother. Go figure.

Im using a Denon x3300 but I dont see why it would matter. I'm not even using ARC on mine, just the optical out to send audio back from the TV when using the built in Roku apps.

Set the mode to Normal Dolby Vision and you'll notice a huge difference. Normal HDR mode doesn't have the same effect unfortunately. Also, as much as I loved your settings, I had to go back to RTings because with yours my peak whites were way too warm. How would I compensate for that? Are you not seeing overly warm whites with your settings?

@persiannight

You'd have to have your set calibrated properly.
There is a lot of variance between panels.
Sometimes there are certain behaviors that are common, but fine tuning the TV using someone else's callibration settings will not get you very accurate results.
Another possibility is that you're just not used to a correct 6500K-ish white point.

I completely agree.. it just looked OVERLY warm to me. I calibrate my iMac and Mac Book Pro on regular basis with a Spyder Pro 5 to 6500K and the whites never look overly warm like this.

Tried Normal DV and set brightness to 62 and Defenders still looks better in 4K UHD vs DV. I like the TV though.

I've watched in a completely dark at night and a normal daylight room and in the evening with some lights on. I've experimented with multiple lighting conditions DV doesn't look great yet. Maybe I need to do a firmware update? But that doesn't seem to work via USB for me. When will the most current update become available thru the network connection?

1080p and 4K UHD both look very good. Just not DV at this point.

Watching Game of Thrones episode 6 as I type this and looks very good even with all the snow in the background.
