Aw, Bob, I'm sorry. Your prior post about the notice from Amazon about damage was so funny. Now it looks prescient.

The amount of money that Amazon has to pay for a UPS pickup (it won't fit in most cars) and transport will get their attention much faster than our complaints.

I thought about it for awhile and the picture is so good that I decided to give the lottery wheel one last spin, going for a replacement and not a refund. Pray for me. :-)

For the ones who got a good set, is it ending up being the Vizio P and Samsung KS8000 killer it was supposed to be?

Even though mine has clouding in 3 corners, aside from that, I'd say it's very close to Vizio P Series quality, if not surpassing it. Colors definitely feel like they "pop" a lot more. Although my experience with Vizio is the P55, which is IPS and not representative of all the other sizes which use VA panels. I'd say with a few tweaks to their local dimming algorithms and some better quality control, TCL definitely has a Vizio-killer level product. Even if the overall PQ is only "just" as good as a Vizio P Series, not actually better, that's still very impressive and worth buying, considering that the 2017 Vizio P 55" costs $1000 (and is IPS), while the TCL P 55" only costs $650 (after the introductory price goes away).

I got my TV yesterday from FedEx. Saw him take it and put it on a cart on it's right side. I freaked out for fear of damage, but after opening it up and firing up the TV, it looks fantastic, and I don't see any issues at this time. I did have to go through some gyrations to get the HDMI ARC working with my receiver (spoiler: It's in a different settings menu tree than the audio section - took me a couple cups of coffee to figure out. lol). Fired up Lego Batman (VUDO DV) and the opening scene is so very inky black, I thought the TV turned off. It also showed the "Dolby Vision" logo when I paused the movie. My other TV, Samsung JS8500, is relegated to my basement for XBox One S gaming (HDR).

Haha man I know what you mean. I am constantly refreshing this thread all day every day, even now after already having my TV in my home! Although I guess that's because I'm looking for more people who have good non-cloudy/bleedy sets, so I can be reassured that it will be possible for me to get one myself eventually

TCL or Vizio M 2017

Hello I am new here and made an account to partake in the discussion on this tv. I have spent countless hours researching both the Tcl and Vizio M series 2017. Since I will be gaming on this tv I wonder if anyone can answer some questions. First, can motion interplotation be turned off on this Tv? I want the video content to be be at 60 and not the clear motion index of 120. I worry there will be a soap opera effect and I wont be able to turn it off. Also can anyone confirm that FALD is turned off when in gaming mode? And lastly, is there anywhere i can view the input lag of this Tv with both hdr on and off?

The vizio M Series 2017 seems to be very similar including price. Does anyone have any suggestions in choosing between these two? The input lag of the Vizio is roughly 38 m with Hdr both on AND off according to rtings.com. Is this noticeable for hardcore gaming on Cod and other FPS? Its about 20 more than the TCL P series. Thank you

Bought the TCL for the all the features and Roku so my wife & kids could use it easily. The Samsung JS8500 is great, but menus are more convoluted. XBox One S only goes to HDR, so seems a waste to use TCL for it, as I tend to play my games a LONG time. Happy wife = happy life.

There are no motion settings at all on this TV. But I have not noticed any SOE when gaming with my Xbox.

FALD is indeed disabled while Game Mode is turned on. This actually irritates me; I would prefer keeping FALD turned on all the time, but you can't do that when in Game Mode.

If you find @imagic 's first look review on this TV you can see his input lag measurements, but I don't think he did the specific comparison you're looking for.

The input lag will definitely be a noticeable difference between the two, but it still may be tolerable at 38 ms to you. It's really a personal thing, some people notice and care a lot, some people notice but don't care most of the time (me), some people can't even tell the difference.

We're a bit biased in this thread, but I think a lot of us would say that this TCL is a much better bang for your buck than the Vizio M series (assuming you get a good panel in the TCL, that is).

Also, this is the "owners only" thread, and as such, you might get kicked out. Just so you're not surprised

I'm still not sure I understand your reasoning...the TCL can do HDR, so why wouldn't you use the Xbox One S on it? Are you saying that you often play games at the same time that your wife and kids want to be using the TV, so you gave them the one that's easier to use and navigate?

It's like ripples in a pond when you toss a rock in. There's even a small orangeish spot at the far left. It looks similar to some other reports, although I think my lines are darker.

It was a bitch getting the set out. The box shows it's a 2-man job but I ain't got that second man. :-) At least I was smart enough to just take it out of the box and leave it on the floor while I checked for problems. I would be beyond rage if I had installed everything and put it on the wall.

Boxing it back up to return is going to be even more difficult.

I'm really disappointed since the program images are gorgeous but the ripple lines are so dark that they show up even while watching programming.
That's the exact same thing that happened to me Was going to get a replacement but decided on a refund - both because of the time delay in getting a new set at this time from Amazon and too many similar reports which do not fill me with confidence. I will likely wait for a Costco model as well. I may also just wait for the 65 inch and hope for the best. Bummer...

Mine arrived last night. If it didn't have the 2 straps going around the box, the set would have fallen out of the bottom of the box.

So this is my panel with FALD turned off. To do this go to a YouTube a backlight test. While it's running push the start button. Go to advanced picture settings and turn local dimming off. With local dimming on it appears completely black as if the TV is turned off.

Yep - Keep my wife & family happy on the new TV, whilest I game away in the basement on the Sammy. We watch movies together, but they really don't want to witness me being pwn'd by about everyone in my XBox Games.

I'm just home from work, TV is off and I'm sitting in front of it thinking. I just noticed that reflections get very warped out of shape toward the sides and corners. It seems very possible that many of us have backlight issues because the panels are getting subtly warped and bent, either during shipping or during removal from packaging, even if you're super careful. This TV is pretty thin and flimsy so it wouldn't surprise me if that's what's happening here.

Can't find the P55 local to compare and under store florescents I'm not sure any of us could make a good call unless you find someone who owns both sets... Best to trust the stats on contrast, color accuracy, performance, etc.. published by the pro reviewers.... Feeling a little guilty about being so negative in the "First Look" thread and then winning the panel lottery on what seems like a blotched product release I took a journey to Best Buy today and spent some time looking at the displays, a few nicer sets had 4k UHD nature and wildlife demo footage and vendor specific 4k demo videos that are easy to find on youtube. Many of these I had already watched on my 55P607 and I had no envy for any of the sets I saw considering what I'd have to pay to get to "better"

My expectation was near (but not quite) OLED results with FALD engaged, very deep blacks that are amazing for this price point and accurate color. That's exactly what I have seen my 55P607 delivering and it's gotten more on time than off time since I hooked it up. The 4k HDR 60fps material on youtube showcases the sets capabilities and it's nothing less than a "my god, I only paid $600 for this!" amazing. A 55P607 without the numerous reported defects is exactly what was hyped.

I'm a pretty pessimistic person and can be difficult to make happy and in light of all the people let down by damaged or defective sets, I feel a bit guilty saying this but I absolutely love this set and continue to have no buyers remorse.

If you exchange with Amazon, does a new 30 days exchange/refund warranty start when you receive the newer product? Or is it better to get refund and then purchase from Amazon again (if you still choose to purchase from them)?
