FA02 Panel

So I will keep looking. Just annoying that the panel I want seems a bit harder to find in this size. Keep trying to find the preferred panel during the price drop.
They seem to have all of the 65 inch with the FA02 panel, but the 55 inch is both AA01 panel and fewer FA02 panels. From what I have observed in several stores, the Samsung FA02 panels seem a bit glossier and shinier, which is what I prefer. The AA01 panel seems slightly matte or a bit more muted. And only select Walmarts carry the Q7 line, and when I went back to the store where I saw the FA02 version a week ago it is now gone. Most stores only got 2 or 3, including one display model. And my nearest Best Buy only has the AA01 panel, and same at the local Conn's store. No more HHG to choose from. So I may drive 2 hours to Georgia this weekend and check out Fry's or some other Walmart or Best Buy stores where they may have a wider selection and more locations near Atlanta.

Hi!

Sometimes I over think things and confuse myself.
I'm trying to decide between the 75Q9F and the 75Q7F.

I have seen the 75Q7F, 65Q7F and a 65Q9F in person, but not side by side.

Is there any appreciable/measurable difference picture-wise between the 2?

The Q9F is side lit wth a few dimming areas.
The Q7F is bottom lit and I don't know about any dimming areas.

There is a pretty large price differential that will carry a lot of weight if there is little PQ difference.

Thanks, Lew

Checked 2 local Best Buy and 2 different Conn's stores for FA02 panel and no luck. 4 different Walmarts and still no luck. All AA01. Finally I remembered a local electronics retailer, and voila success at last. Found the FA02 panel and did not have to drive all over Georgia to find a wider selection. Will set up tomorrow, but glad to finally find the preferred FA02 panel with the current sale price. The FA02 seems in short supply in the 55 inch size, but it definitely appears to have a shinier, glossier screen which I prefer. Most stores seem to have the AA01 panel in the 55 inch category.

Just got my set as a replacement for extended warranty, had the JS8500. What are folks doing for motion control, I dont like it to the extent that it gets soap opera but I do like some. ON the JS8500 they had a setting called clear that I really liked, it was lower than LOW I guess.

Anyone mess with custom settings? Which one has what affect on TV?

Thanks, not much info here like other models.

Owners of Q7 and Q8

I have seen so many bad reviews on these TVs it making me really think twice about buying one. I was going to buy a 75" and will be watching in movies / cable HD TV in regular lighting.

As a normal viewer, will the blooming and banding be noticeable?
Do you noticed it when watching movie with black bars?
How would you rate this TV all round?

(I actually want Q8C 75" because it fits perfectly compared to Sony 940)

Thanks for your help

Don't believe everything you read, go take a look at these tv's and compare to other brands models etc. I have a 55" Q7f and it's the best tv I've ever had, the picture is bright and sharp, HDR+ is awesome with Netflix, the colors pop, the blacks are inky, and the software is smooth and fast. BTW I don't work for Samsung, as i have had actually returned a few other brands as well as other Samsungs before keeping this model.

Ok, thanks. I did look at a Q8C right beside the Sony 940 at best buy and I could not tell the difference. I thought both pictures looked amazing but they had their stock material on them. I would have liked to see a HD movie with black bars upscaled to 4k on a QLED as this will be what I will mostly be watching. Thanks for your input.

To the best of my knowledge, no one here has changed any settings. Good with factory settings.

Can't get audio to work using the optical output :(

Hello my Q7F experts!

Just got my new 55" Q7F the other day, picture is incredible, but need to output sound to my stereo speakers. I have connected the optical output from the Onebox to the optical input on my speaker hub / receiver (Dynaudio / Sony ES), but get no sound. I have the HDMI inputs on the Onebox connected to operate the cable box and PS4, etc, but can only get sound to work through the TV speakers. And yes I have switched the TV sound output to optical . Have tried disconnecting / reconnecting the power to the Dynaudio Connect box (which operates my speakers), but that didn't change anything. Thinking of trying to power down the Onebox and / or reconnecting the HDMI cables to the Onebox...

Also wondering if the HDMI ARC port is causing an issue?

Do I need to possibly try different HDMI cables or a different optical cord?

Any other menu settings that I need to change perhaps?

Frustrating!

Any thoughts on what to do??

Thanks!

[QUOTE=Corrugated;55020602]Hello my Q7F experts!

Have you tried adding your unit to the Q7 remote setup so it operates your unit and connects. I assume your stereo is set for the optical input to play. Not familiar w/ that unit.

Hi jvkahl,

I haven't tried that yet, but will give it a shot tonight. I have got the TV to recognize the Sony receiver (STR-DA5700ES) but it wasn't as easily handled as my other peripherals (PS4, cable box, etc). I have tried plugging the optical cable into the Sony receiver and also separately into the Dynaudio Connect, but so far nothing. Will also try playing with the audio menu settings in the Sony, but I dont think this is the problem.

I will also try another optical cable tonight as well, but I think the problem is with the Samsung OneConnect box. I can see the little red light pass through the other end (output) of the optical cable, so I would think the cable is ok...

What a drag....

That does look like a good unit so 2 things... be sure you plugged the optical into the Opt-in and not Opt-out on the rec'vr. Then you absolutely must pick that Opt on your rec'vr to play what the tv is sending to it.

Was the hate for this TV because of the high price? They have dropped the 75" quite a bit the past few weeks.

Primarily high price with poor local dimming. There are better price/performance TV than the Q7. They might be competitive if they were 10-15% lower than the competition, ut they are 10-15% higher. If the overall quality of the TV matched their PR and marketing they would be dominating this segment of the market.

all the hate talk is scaring everyone to post in this q7 thread.
i have the 75 q7 and its an awesome tv.i dont see and banding or any other picture quality issues(at least not yet as i had it for only 2 months).im happy with the picture on standard setting and am still messing with the auto motion plus on custom.i dont see the need for calibration atm.i also watch it in a semi bright living room,i dont regret spending the money.i should have waited a little as the price dropped another 500 recently.
my previous(and still own) was a samsung 75 7100series and a sony 75 940D.comparing the q7 to the 7100 makes the 7100 color look dull.the sony whites are alot brighter but seemed to wash out the picture and no matter how i try to set the motion control on the sony the q7 was just plain better and smoother.i have played all 3 tvs side by side with the same 4k movies to compair.i personally like the color bright and motion smooth on my tvs,you guys might think otherwise.

I have spent a lot of time with the Q7 and Q9 65-inch. IMO the Q9 almost gets the nod for best TV of 2017 if not for the banding issues. I have seen 4 Q9's in person; All had banding (a vertical streak down the right side). It's most noticeable in panning shots. Golf would be a good example, when the camera is tracking the ball in mid air, it's pretty noticeable. Samsung supposedly released a firmware update to fix the banding (not sure how that would work, but I'm hopeful).

I have ran the update on the Q9, but need to examine it closely to see if it made any difference.

For whatever it's worth, I also have banding on my LG OLED lol

No TV is perfect. And yes the Q9 is much better than the Q7. You just need to see the right content.

Hmm. I don't really think that there is that much of a difference between the Q7/Q8 and the Q9. Of course it handles HDR better because of the increased number of dimming zones. But other than that the image is pretty much the same. I compared both models with regular content and 4K (+ HDR) and decided to go for the Q7 as the difference was rather small. The handling of HDR was better on the Q9 but that was about it. And I got lucky with my Q7 - it does not have any banding, clouding og light bleed. The blacks are really good and the colours are amazing. I still have to tweak the settings a bit but overall I'm really impressed with this screen. Decided to go for the QLED model instead of LG's OLED model because of the better colours and brightness - and because I was afraid of burn-in, tint issues and banding on the OLED. I'm sure I made the right choice.

Fixed my Q7F optical out audio problem :)

[quote=jvkahl;55026880]Thanks for the help guys, I have fixed the problem with the optical out audio. I swapped to a new optical cable and all is well! My old cable was still showing the red light passing through, but it wasn't as bright / powerful as what the new cable was passing; guess that's what was needed to get it to work!

Yay!

Just finishing up the set-up of my 75Q7F and reprograming my RF20 remotes. These are "head-to-head" learning remotes. They will not learn from the stock Q7F remote. My dealer let me use a Samsung IR only smart remote to program everything on the Q7F remote to my RF20's. I also ebayed a new similar remote for under $5 shipped so I can re-program at home as necessary.

Now here is something interesting:
I have a ChannelMaster DVR+.
It's remote has a discrete on/off button.
My RF20's accept the "on" and "off" on two separate buttons and are able to control the DVR+.
Strangely, the ChannelMaster remote turns the DVR+ on and off normally but also turns the Q7F on and off at the same time.
The RF20's do not turn the Q7F on/off when controlling the OTA DVR+.

Anyone else have any interesting observations?

And only select Walmarts carry the Q7 line, and when I went back to the store where I saw the FA02 version a week ago it is now gone. Most stores only got 2 or 3, including one display model. And my nearest Best Buy only has the AA01 panel, and same at the local Conn's store. No more HHG to choose from. So I may drive 2 hours to Georgia this weekend and check out Fry's or some other Walmart or Best Buy stores where they may have a wider selection and more locations near Atlanta.
I looking at buying a 65" Q7F from Best Buy and was wondering how you go about determining a particular Q7F model has a FA02 panel from a AA01 panel? Can you look at the box or do you look in the back of the TV or where do you find that info?

There is a white label on the side of the TV box. Under the Q7 model number it will show the version number. Most of the 65 inch models I have seen are FA02, whereas the 55 inch has both AA01 and FA02. I looked around several places and finally found a 55 inch FA02 at a local retailer. Top notch display.

i have the 75 q7 and its an awesome tv.i dont see and banding or any other picture quality issues(at least not yet as i had it for only 2 months).im happy with the picture on standard setting and am still messing with the auto motion plus on custom.i dont see the need for calibration atm.i also watch it in a semi bright living room,i dont regret spending the money.i should have waited a little as the price dropped another 500 recently.
my previous(and still own) was a samsung 75 7100series and a sony 75 940D.comparing the q7 to the 7100 makes the 7100 color look dull.the sony whites are alot brighter but seemed to wash out the picture and no matter how i try to set the motion control on the sony the q7 was just plain better and smoother.i have played all 3 tvs side by side with the same 4k movies to compair.i personally like the color bright and motion smooth on my tvs,you guys might think otherwise.
Specs aside, the Q7 is an excellent TV and I like the picture better than the KS8000. Everything looks excellent. Not the best value, but prices have finally dropped. After I toned down the panel light, brightness, and gamma, the picture quality is outstanding and rivals plasma. And no burn in concerns like OLED, so I think QLED was the safest choice.
