At Costco now. Deciding between Samsung and Vizio

Hi all,

Of course I can't make up my mind and need help! We are here at Costco and will go to lunch and then come back and pick up a TV so hopefully there are users online right now that may help me with this.

They have a Samsung 65" UN65M6290 for $839.99.
A Vizio P65-E1 for $1299
A Vizio M65-E1 for $979 (online)

My guess is the P65 is the best but we are mostly trying to decide between the other Samsung and vizio since they are under $1000 (our arbitrary budget) Costco rep here says to get the Samsung, but I kind of prefer Vizio.

Anyone want to weigh in? :-)

Thanks!
Steve

Vizio has local dimming compared to edge-lit on Samsung. If that’s important to you, the choice is a no-brainer.

Thank you Furyus. That was also big on my wishlist, but ultimately it was mostly the price. Since this was a christmas gift from my father in law I felt bad arguing for spending an extra $150 (even though I would have paid the difference.)

So we got the Samsung. Now to find a 4k movie to watch!

Oh yeah, true. This technology stuff is stupid anymore, Dolby Vision is superior in every way.

Aw crap! I knew I should have stuck with my gut and insisted on the Vizio! Maybe with he leaves in a couple weeks I'll return it and get the Vizio P series and pay the difference. I have 30 days for Costco.

So funny story, when we get home I setup the TV and find something with 4K to watch. It wasn't high-end but we picked The Crown from Netflix and they prompted me to upgrade to the 4K plan.

I start the show and it looks horrible. We're about 20 minutes in and no-one has said anything. I look over at my wife and father-in-law and they are watching with interest but no mention of the quality. Netflix info shows it as "0.23MBps / 480". Anyway I figured it out (netflix website playback setting was set to low) and rebooted the TV and it went up to 15mbps / 2160.

The only complaints I heard were from me stopping the show so I could reboot the TV. I asked, "doesn't this look better" and I get a "yeah i guess"

What is the point of the new TV then people!? :-)
(We had a 10 year old LG 42" LCD)
