Also, I don't know if you looked for this or if the environment was conducive, but did you get any impressions on the viewing angle for the 900F? I presume it's still a VA panel?
They have all the sizes at the show. They are using X900Fs to demo other products throughout the booth and I was able to locate the 55 and what looked like the 49.

Regarding viewing angles, they seem ok to me but it does wash out slightly at a far angle. I am not the best judge of what a good viewing angles should be, sorry. No one could really tell me what panel it uses. He told me they prioritized home theater viewing and contrast over trying to have the best viewing angles.

I did notice a bit of blooming but he said that it's because they set them up for the show at the highest brightness and on Vivid mode. He said home viewing should have minimal blooming. He also said the partial black frame insertion supported by the X1 Extreme chip will help a bit.

He said they did optimize AndroidTV more and it should work better, especially because they are pushing Google Assistant on the 2018 models. We may likely see Android Oreo too.

Edit: I think my phone camera is exaggerating the blooming and washing out of the panel a bit. It's a lot less with my own eyes. The top image with the Sony logo is the 55".

I'm thinking so too. Talking to them makes it sound like it's mostly about the X1 Extreme, Google Assistant and Dolby Vision support. Everything else seems the same as the 900E.

And therein lies the rub, is the X1 extreme and Dolby vision worth the $300-$400 hike over the X900E as it's being cleared out?

Exactly, that's making me think if I should just pick up the 55" X900E whenever it drops to $1000 again.

Nope that's about right, it looks just like my x900e on the side. Big block of bloom in the middle and bottom.

id give it the benefit of the doubt that the camara is exaggerating it a bit. your 900e is edge-light were the 900f is full array

The 900E is full-array, not edge-lit.

Well now, why the fruck did I not wait one more year for 900F? Had to scratch the itch and get the 900E in 2017, didn't I? Technology should be frucking frozen once I buy a new TV and not allowed evolve until it is time to buy a new one!!

Great deal on your set. I believe it will sell quick. I will calculate shipping and fees off the price what you have on Ebay and set up Ad here for local pick up only and TV will be gone in no time.

I have a few questions I think we all want to know:

1. What's the nits count in HDR?
2. Can the stand be optionally changed to the monolithic stand of the x900e?
3. How heavy are each set? Specifically, the 75x900f?
4. Is VRR supported, like the Samsung models?

5. Any numbers for the contrast levels, since that's one of their main selling points? "Is it equivalent, or better than the 940e"?

No, they won't say. Pricing isn't announced. They said it should be similar to the models they're replacing. Of course there is no 85" now. They won't even say how bright they are.

We probably won't know the 900F brightness until later. But out of curiosity what was the brightness in nits of the 900E and the 930E. I assume the 900F would be the same or better.

Two days ago I was considering an OLED, but after studying youtube videos of the OLED burn in issue, I now want an LED. I am currently using a 2009 vintage Samsung B8500 with FALD.

[edit] I think I found the answer to my own question. The 930E can hit peak brightness of 1500 nits. The 900E, according to one review, is 935 nits over a 10% window.

Bingo! I was just about ready to spring for a 75 940E, but only because I had to in order to get DV. Now, with the 75 900F, maybe I save a thousand dollars or more. I wonder if the 900F has more nits and/or more zones than 900E? If so, that would bring it even closer in performance to the 75 940E.

It seems to me they're going to continue selling the 930/940 series along with Z9D as well. Which, is odd and a bit unprecedented. I have a document that shows they'll have 9 70" plus sets and the only way that's right is if they continue the 850E/930E/940E. Lists 2 70" TV's so the old KD and another of some kind? Something stinks.

Will Sony ever implement DV into PS4/PS5? I watch only a handful of UHD movies a year, so DV will have less of an impact on my decision.

Well I don't know what to do. I was this close to buying a 55X930E to replace my near 10 old KDL-52W4100 which has had a dead column of pixels on the left side for a long time. I knew CES was coming and I assumed they'd announce a new 930F and I was waiting to see its specs and then would decide it if was worth the wait and added cost (when compared to the 930E end of life pricing). But with no 930F announced and the 900F to get the X1 Extreme that the 930E has plus will have FALD, I'm wondering if I should wait for it. Of course to make matters worse they announce no timing or pricing for the 900F.

Is there any kind of consensus building on whether the 900F will be just as good or even better than 930E? I know that's hard to answer without anyone having tested a 900F, but I also know there's a lot of smart people on here that can make very educated guesses. What would you all do: get 930E now or wait for 900F?

You will want to wait and see the price, zone count, and make sure they are released. High quality 80" and up FALD sets of the past where VERY expensive.....
