Sony vs Samsung.

Helping my brother in law replace his dinasour Mitsubishi DLP. Finally decided to come out of Stone Age. So originally was looking at 75 in Samsung QN75Q7FAMFXZA. He liked the picture quality. I had him look at the Sony XBR-75X900E
Picture not as bright but I like the processor of the so y better for upscaling cable tv. Any one have either set to give opinion on. Mainly watches cable tv. Netflix. Also like that Sony does bothe Dolby vision and HDR.

Hi.

The 900e doesn't have DV, unless they added it and I never got the update.

Opinion of the x900e is it's a good tv with a better than average pic imo. You're right that it's not a bright as some tv's out there, but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying it. It's bright enough for my environment.

This is from my personal experience:

I went to a Video Only store in my neighborhood.
I took my 10 year old OPPO DVD player with me and my North by Northwest DVD.
The OPPO passes 480i via HDMI.
The lighting in this Video Only store is on par with a Magnolia viewing room/area.
I was allowed to plug my OPPO into anything in the store.
In particular I compared a 75Q7F with a 65 900E which were side by side.
I also compared a 65Q7F with a 65 LG OLED that were also side by side.

My opinion was the Q7F very slightly outperformed the Sony with my material.( your material may differ)
To me the Q7F was the equal to the OLED under these viewing conditions.
The OLED appeared better when showing paused credits on a black background.
When the credits were moving there was little observed difference.

Bottom line: I wanted a 75 and I felt there wasn't enough difference among the 3.
It came down to price. This was in 10/17 and I took the 75Q7F home.
You may have different results, but do your own shopping and comparing.

Samsung 75Q7F, ATV4K, Tivo Roamio OTA, RF-20

I would pick the Sony, but he might also want to throw the Vizio M-series in the mix.

Went with the Sony and just set it up today. Looks great especially when coming from a DLP. Got a sound bar with it and also sounds good now as well. They are happy as picture on regular tv and Netflix is great.
