Hi Mark, can you try to look for luminance levels fluctuations and for how the Q9 handles Subtitles over black bars?

Nice, looking forward to your results. Mine should be here tomorrow, I hope any way.

Earlier I was browsing through the 65Q9F e-manual, Vesa coordinated video timings, 2560 X 1440 @ 120hz. Would be cool if true.

Each year I usually hold off a few months before purchasing my new sets. If this is actually the case I may have to consider moving up my timeline this year.

TV is here, unpacked, turned on, and running. I'm going with gaming first, using "Mark's gaming settings 1.0" which are already a huuuuuge improvement over the default game mode settings it ships with, just sayin'.

GTA 5 Online running on a GTX 1080.

Here are the game mode settings I am using now... looks much more natural than the defaults but is a super quick hack. That's for evening lighting.

For the very first numbers... sustained peak luminance in Movie mode with HDR...

2% - 1750 nits
5% - 1600 nits
10% - 1600 nits
18% - 1150 nits
25% - 1100 nits
50% - 800 nits
100% - 660 nits

Not sure how long it sustains peak brightness, will test for duration shortly.

And static ANSI contrast (on-axis viewing) is...

15,000:1 with local dimming on high
20,000:1 with local dimming set to standard or low

Please note it is no longer possible to turn off local dimming altogether. That said, the ANSI result is very encouraging and consistent with the on-axis contrast I have seen coming from this TV.

Also these are very early results, the TV has not even been out of its box for 24 hours.

Hopefully we'll get standard HD readings at some point.

Nice peaks. I always liked how Samsung and lg were really the only ones that track mastering display properly with luminance increasing all the way down to 2%. Sony has it's peak at 10% usually.

Interesting that contrast ratio is lower on high. Could this be a result of brightness polluting meter?

Yes, since I am using an ANSI pattern and not full-frame black (because all local dimming modes now shut off the LEDs completely when the screen is dark). Does not take much to drop from 20,000:1 to 15,0000:1.

Much higher. I could not get past 5000:1 or so with wither 2016 or 2017 models, regardless of settings.
