The panel for motion may need to break in. I'd suggest maybe running it with some SOE for a bit just to break it in. Otherwise, try bumping judder control to around 2 or 3 to help this should not induce much or any at all SOE.
What about film mode? Contrast enhancer?
I will say it has DSE. Abou the same as the Sony. Too bright in my place to check blooming. Off angle the picture is better, not much color loss.

I believe film mode is only for lower sources.

Contrast enhancer is the former dynamic contrast. Usually keep off for sdr but alot of people use it for hdr, brightens the picture up and makes it a little more vibrant, I consider this preference.

Got any more pix to share?

According to HDTV Magazin video (the German one), VRR will be added via update later in the year. Here’s their info they got from Samsung (translated from German):

We have received important information from Samsung regarding VRR and gaming. Since we can not customize every comment under the video, we ask that this info as current statement on VRR and gaming to see.
For the introduction of the models, Samsung does not offer a VRR, but initially rely on AMD FreeSync.
With a later firmware update then VRR is planned - date unknown so far.
Compatible models (first FreeSync, later VRR):

Also those 5, 10, and 100% may look dark or yellow in the pics, but that is just the camera.

Im not seeing any banding in person. Screen looks really good.

If that's true. Then the rumor was almost true that I've been saying all winter. 480 zones was the rumor. If that count becomes 16x30 then 480 becomes the number.

Major thanks For double checking the zone count!

Im triple checking now. I think it may be 16 horizontal zones. There seem to be a bit of a delay when running that test when it's at the corners, top and bottom, like maybe slightly larger horizontal zones for the black bars in some movie content.

But it's definitely 30 vertical? How does the bloom on the white moving bar look, is it small bloom?

Many people use that video including the AVS reviews themselves. I've used it on my ks9800 and counted the same that everyone else has for my tv. Vincent Teoh of HDTV test uses the exact same method for zone counting as well. This is the same technique that every professional uses.

Here's a professional reviewer showing how they use the videos to count zones on the Z9D and ks9800. Notice the size of the blooms too.

I noticed this with my samsung, when I got it motion smearing was pretty bad with black to white transitions, as the panel broke in a bit the pixel response got better.

Guessing the liquid crystals are a bit stiff? After some time the viscosity of the liquid gets lower?

YouTube video or USB stick is the same thing. Literally no difference. This is how they count the zones, manually with your eyes. There is no "equipment" that auto measures zones. It's all by eye and a moving white block.

That is one thing us Sony owners pick up on really quick with Samsungs. I have yet to see one that handled motion well. I cannot stand to watch certain things on my KS9800 due to this.

Most Samsung TVs unlike Sony handle motion better with a mild SOE. I don’t know if the new sets have this adjustment, but on an older Samsung (a 2009 B8500) you can adjust this and a little bit of SOE looks good to me. I don’t know why some people hate SOE so much especially on the milder settings. It does not appear to add any artifacts, etc.

Um No, it makes the picture unrealistic, your eyes don't see like that. It gives many people headaches and nausea with SOE.

So I watched Bladerunner 2049 on the Z9 last night using a Sony 4K player and the 4K HDR disc. I thought the movie looked good but it didn't seem as bright as I thought it would be. It didn't seem to have the HDR punch to it.
Tonight I used the Samsung Q9 and right away it seemed a good amount brighter and just more clarity and punch to the picture. Also, Samsung definitely did something with the backlight as the letterbox bars are black at all times even in a very bright scene. The Z9 could not do that last night and it wasn't as bright. I have attached some photos. Just a iPhone X but I am not seeing blooming into letterbox bars straight on.

I disagree. What you say may be true for the full SOE but not a minimal setting. I will admit it may take a little getting used to. Maybe the B8500 has better SOE processing then the newer sets and I am just not seeing it. I will have to try it when I buy the Q9F.

Well how confident are you with the rumor that the Q8 has half the zones of the Q9 (240 zones)? I forgot the count from the Q8 owner but it was a lot less than 240 zones. We'll probably need to get counts from owners of both and see what the consensus ends up being.

I was thinking the same thing. I personally would guess the Q8 count is wrong (only 75). The owner did say after settings adjustment that it was able to match the vizio that has 128 zones. So that's either a very impressive 75 zones or an incorrect count. Need some more zone counts!

Looks pretty good. How do those blacks hold up off angle? Did you play both any settings on the Z9D to make it brighter or was it already maxed out? Are u using the contrast enhancer on the Q9?

Also, have you ran the zone count yet? Would be great to get a number similar to the otber member.

Also, Samsung definitely did something with the backlight as the letterbox bars are black at all times even in a very bright scene. The Z9 could not do that last night and it wasn't as bright. I have attached some photos. Just a iPhone X but I am not seeing blooming into letterbox bars straight on.
How's the dse compared to the z9?

I have not messed with the settings much. That was max backlight and no contrast enhancer. Off angle the blacks don’t hold up as promised nor did I think they would. Colors stay good but you get the blooming for sure.
Z9 was also maxed out on brightness as well.
Haven’t checked zone count. Still trying to figure out settings.
