I would recommend 35 in SDR, and the default in HDR.

These things are always content driven. Can you point me to a Netflix scene where it shows badly? I'm mainly driven by discs.

I checked the first 6 minutes and couldn't tell a difference going back between Auto and Off. I didn't see any soap smearing with it on Auto. I guess you're more sensitive than I.

I recently purchased a 65 inch Q9FN that suffered from bad DSE. I spoke with Samsung support (who was actually great to deal with) and they agreed to replace the Q9FN with a 65 inch Q90r.

My concerns are:

1) Is the new Q90r going to suffer from the same DSE as the Q9FN? I've still seen mixed reports on the uniformity of the Q90 series, but in general it appears to be better.. true?

2) I actually saw bad motion artifacts on the Q9FN. I had Auto Motion Plus enabled with Blur Reduction set to 5 and Judder Reduction set to 3.. so maybe that was my issue. Should I expect the Q90r to handle motion the same as the Q9FN?

I'm debating switching to a Sony 900f instead, which handles DSE and Motion better, but with a little less "punch" to the picture in my opinion. Silly to consider such a switch?

Sidenote: I found the Q9FN to almost be blindingly bright when viewing in a dark room. I had to drop the backlight to 8-10 under these conditions.. is this expected? Have folks found a universal backlight setting that can be applied to day and night viewing, or is it just expected to have to adjust the backlight based on your room/lighting conditions? (and yes, I'm aware of the ECO option, but I don't like the TV auto controlling the brightness based on perceived room settings).

Thanks for any advice folks can offer.
Supposedly the 90 has better motion

Q9FN Black Remote model no?

Question: What is the model no. for the black remote with the rubber buttons? Some of us don't get that remote with the set, only the small silver remote. Thanks!

The Q9 comes with the metal silver remote, all the other models come with a black plastic remote. The button layout is the same, but the Q9 silver remote is higher quality.

If you mean the plastic smart remote they give you on the lower end TV models it's BN59-01292a. If you mean the traditional candybar remote they give you as a secondary remote in some countries I'm not sure of the model number, but you can use practically any Samsung candybar remote as long as it has the buttons you need. Most of them use the same IR codes.

that's correct.

What I wonder is despite all those fun on paper specs if it's worth it.

And not sure I'd say a tv retailing at 4k+ is low end

I keep wanting to hate this TV because of all the negativity I read on here but I'm amazed everyday with the picture quality. Source plays a huge factor for sure. I stream and use an antenna.

Yes. They use the same firmware. It's named the same and is the exact same file, unlike the others like European and Australian. Funny thing is for 1251 the US site had it weeks before the Korean site.

I have three things I'd love to see fixed: the overblown highlights which fortunately don't crush the whites, the inconsistent blue in the low IREs (might be a specific panel symptom) and the occasional having to power it off and on to get the picture.

Seeing as they're working on the new models which no doubt inherit some of the tech, there could be software improvements trickling down.

This download might be done sometime after lunch
