Everything looked good as far as I could tell, but I was still a bit anxious as I knew I wouldn't be able to get a real good look at it until it was mounted on the wall.

The next morning, once I did get it on the wall... wow! Coming from a roughly 7 year old Samsung 55" it is a CONSIDERABLE difference. I wanted to put it threw its paces and try out a few things - first thing I watched was Transformers 4 on Prime which said it was 4k version. Started on Standard setting, switched to Movie halfway through. I like both settings, though I probably prefer Movie color tones overall. Looked and sounded great (using Nakamichi Shockwafe Elite 7.2 soundbar & dual subs). I've never actually seen 4k before... that said, I couldn't tell a massive difference between that and HD, but it looked good nonetheless. Maybe it wasn't able to stream full 4k as where I live all I can get is 15mbps.

Next I tried the "broken" game mode on Xbox One S. I played F1 2018. As I connect HDMI through my Nakamichi, it didn't automatically switch to game mode, but after doing so manually, the colors really pop and everything looks great. No blooming or other problems I'd read of others experiencing. Playing a game like that on a 75" screen is pretty awesome!

I couldn't really find anything on Netflix that listed it as HDR that I felt like watching last night anyway, but looking forward to Stranger Things S3 which I suppose will be a good test. I did try Breaking Bad which is listed in 4k. Only watched a few minutes as I don't really want to get sucked back into binge watching that again, but that did look quite clear and detailed.

Lastly, I watched Jurrasic World FK on HBO Now (from the TV) which all they support is 1080. Also looked and sounded great.

Anyway, I didn't notice any motion issues or black crush like I've read about. It just looks like a natural progression from the 55" Samsung I'm used to, plus way bigger and better of course! Blacks are definitely BLACK!

I'm nowhere near the expert in audio/video that most of you guys are, but for a normal guy who isn't going out of his way to look for problems, or maybe doesn't know any better, I LOVE this thing! Super happy with it! Thank you all for your input and expertise as it is so very helpful in making this kind of purchase.

Edit: I also bought a pair of USB fans off Amazon to pull air away from the One Connect box. I had read about someone else using additional fans and liked the idea. Can't hurt. Pretty cool they auto power off once the TV is shut off for a min or two.

Waiting for people to claim you're lying about game mode not being broken in 5... 4... 3.... 2.....

Glad you're looking it! I'm still loving mine too.

I've had mine since January of this and I feel the same way. The only thing i regret is that I didn't go for the 75 inch.

Actually you still want it in Auto Color after calibrating, otherwise you have to manually switch between DCI-P3 and BT.2020. Auto retains the color settings for both after they've been adjusted.

You're talking HDR, I was referring to SDR.

I'm considering getting the 82". Those that have the 82", can you tell me how far apart the feet are. I'm not sure this will fit on my stand.

Agreed .... Ive ventured on to other games over the last few months. Yesterday I popped in destiny 2 to play the latest expansion and I'm blown away by the HDR implementation compared to other games. And guess what ...... Blacks were black

Are you sure you didn't mean to post this in another thread? The Q9FN wasn't made available in 82" and it has a center base to boot.

Interestingly I'll get to see what a "fixed" game mode looks like this evening because I just had an 82" Q90 dropped off. I wish I could do a side by side comparison but my theater just isn't wide enough to do an A/B.

After all the drama over this it better be mind blowing. I will accept nothing less than something on the level of a mind altering revelation.

I do. It's going to take awhile to get set up, and that's assuming that I can get a helper to swing by and give me a hand with it this evening. It's a heavy SOB. Like crazy stupid almost like CRT days heavy. I had to do some research to verify that I can even put it on the glass top of my stand.

I'll reserve final judgement until I get some hours on it and do a full cal.

Really? As heavy as my long gone 370 lb. 34" flat CRT Trinitron?

I've had my 75" Q9FN for over a year and I'm definitely not (really) complaining (hope Samsung doesn't read that, there's always room for improvement).

Like the old flat screen Sony Wegas? lol I swear those things weighed like 400lbs! I heard Ronnie Coleman used to bench press them during his Olympia prep.

My 75 Q9FN weighs over 100, the 82Q90 has got to be a beast.

I think the box is pretty heavy/sturdy, the samsung site says 86lbs without stand for 75q9, it seemed pretty easy for me and the installer to lift up. Thank god for those plastic grip panels that come on the front of the TV though.

LOL no it's not like the Trinitron. Let's be real though....the weight of that thing was legendary.

I'm not kidding though when I say this thing is heavy though. It tips the scales around 150lbs, and in the box it's damn near 200. Regardless, it's straight up too much TV for me to be wrangling this thing on my own.

Good call, for some reason I thought I had read 100 somewhere. I thought maybe I could hang it on the wall myself... yep, definitely a 2 person job!

Man, that is heavy. Hopefully it means it's really well made.

When I had the Trinitron, I had to place magnetic shields on the inside-facing sides of my Apogee Acoustics ribbon hybrid speakers because the CRT's magnetic field would mess them up.

So like I posted before, since updated to 1251 I've had issues with the set randomly rebooting. I think its related to VRR, since it only seems to happen with I'm playing my Xbox One X. I got so fed up with it that I disabled VRR a couple hours ago so I can see if that's actually the issue, but now that there seems to be a new firmware update out, I'm hoping the issues will work themselves out soon.

Also, I'm also having issues with the bluetooth remote becoming unresponsive since the last update. Wish I could just roll back.

That sucks man. By any chance have you tried just straight up factory resetting the whole thing? I'm not suggesting that you reinvent the wheel if you've already given it a go, but I've found over the last couple of years with Samsung's that a lot of times a factory reset clears up weird issues after a firmware update.

Also, I'm also having issues with the bluetooth remote becoming unresponsive since the last update. Wish I could just roll back.
You might as well try the latest 1260.8, though it's only in the Korean site yet. I've had no problems with it. Unfortunately I don't use the stuff you're having problems with.

I've got the file downloaded, just looking for instructions on manual updating.

Extract the image file. Place it on a flash drive. Plug it into the OC box. Go to search for a software update on the settings

Alright, I'm all updated from 1251 to 1260, and I re-enabled VRR on my Xbox One X. Hopefully this update fixes the remote control timeouts and random reboots.

Thanks to all who helped.

I just spent the evening messing about with my Xbox (playing some games in HDR, no SDR yet) on the Q90. While I am not making a final judgement about the overall quality of the TV based on just a few hours of uncalibrated usage, I can already confidently say that the so called improved game mode on the Q90 is much ado about nothing, at least where those of us with the 75" Q9 are concerned.

So rest easy 75" Q9 gamers. You really aren't missing out on much of anything. The differences are negligible at best.
