Personally I don't use game mode. I use movie mode in 2560x1440 x 120hz and 1920x1080 x 120hz resolutions. As long as you feed 120hz, the input lag is almost non existent so you can have superior movie mode, best local dimming and low input lag at the same time. If you can feed this q9fn with 120hz you don't need game mode at all.

Thanks.
Have you tried updating to 1290 firmware? I have read that it most definitely improved a lot of Q9FN owners´ sets.

Unfortunately the aforementioned refresh rates and resolutions are not an option for me, as I will be plugging my PS4 in it. So in this case it would be 4K x 60hz. According to Rtings, the input lag in this case would be at around 60ms.

If you get the time and are able to, do kindly send a comparison picture of the game mode and non-game mode. This will basically be the only factor to my buying decision.

Thanks!

I had the ks8000 previously and the Q9 in game mode, despite less aggressive dimming, is far better than the ks8000 for HDR. The q9fn has 480 dimming zones vs the 16 (I think) vertical only zones in ks8000. If you're comparing against the ks8000 then game mode blacks are still way better on Q9.

Also agree with earlier poster re black crush. Game mode blacks aren't as deep but it also brings out more detail in the shadows. 60fps games are still playable outside of game mode as long you're not playing anything competitive. Q9 also has freesync and game mode motion smoothing (which works nicely in 30fps content). As a gamer I love the Q9 and could never go back to my old ks8000. For movies and series, the Q9 is vastly superior to the ks8000.

Will you dismiss the panel lottery also ? Or how about the fact that alot of these panels are outsourced and some versions are inferior to the Samsung model panels , you can buy a Samsung q8 and I may get a fa01 that looks excellent but you may get an aa01 and side by side you may think they are different models (I had this happen to me once ) so yeah I don't trust these brands. A newer FW was installed on its own onto my tv even with the option off. There's a backdoor way they can upgrade your tv through smart hub , I'm happy your happy with your model but fact is that there are class action lawsuits against these brands that have been put in place and it's already established that they break our products in order to force upgrades. I can guarantee that if a nit test was performed on our TV's they would be significantly lower than at launch.
Can you confirm that built-in apps on 930e (cable tv, netflix, youtube, video app etc) are using 16-255 limited range and not 0-255 full range ? I noticed a HUGE difference after I enabled pro mode (hotel mode) and enabled "Optimize PC display" which I heard it enables 0-255 full range. This also can be fixed by using an external device and enabling HDMI Enhanced Format.
I get whiter white (more gradations of white), better blacks, brighter grays, less DSE, smoother colors (because of less DSE), way less posterization, less blooming, big increase in sharpness detail (and depth of field). Also I feel that 20 of 50 brightness is much brighter than before, maybe just because light "breathes" easier and it's a smoother white.
And this is across everything, even the menu it's sharper with a whiter white and not a milky white.

Also a new 1294.1 update for Q9FN (and other 2018 models), update is dated 2020-03-24, any difference compared to 1292.3 ?

Definitely hope so. Last update kind of ruined 4K HDR playback on VUDU.

I'm assuming that this is a bug fix update since it came out so soon after the last one. Let's how it doesn't break things further.

I installed this 1294 update and everything is working great (game mode too, like before)
I noticed color saturation is back to normal in SDR (I had to reduce -3 in previous fm otherwise it was over-saturated)

Anyway I'm still loving this TV, after the patch I just tested all kind of content and it's always so impressive to watch ╰(*°▽°*)╯

With all this time at home, I was playing around with google home, and found out you can control this TV with google home now, for some reason I thought that was only coming to newer models. Maybe everyone here knows this already, but in case you didn't I thought I would post about it.

Haven't used the Amazon video app in a while, but noticed that it doesn't open when I select it. I have to open the Home menu and select it a 2nd time before it actually loads up. Is this a known bug or should reinstalling it fix the problem?

Mine does that too. At first it annoyed me, but afterwards just got over it

Use to follow this thread when I first purchased this TV. it's been awhile. Is it worth the upgrade from firmware 1270 to 1292? Anything new to expect?

Thanks!

Guy a question for you.

Own the Q9FN (75') and my firmware is the 1292.1

I'm in Europe (Switzerland). It says on the update research tool that I'm running the latest version.

The link provided above by KwizatZ who is refering to 1294 shows that :
TV QLED 65Q8F 2018 , Ecran Quantum Dot, Smart TV
QE65Q8FNAT

This seems not to be the Q9FN for me ??

When on the samsung page for the Q9FN, I only see the 1292.1

That said, I also find the 1294 for the Q9F (without the "N") on the French website.

So what do you think ? Can I install the 1294 ? Is there a difference between the Q9FN and the Q9F ?

That's wrong, my link goes to 65Q9F 2018, not the Q8

Ok for me it does not but that's fine, maybe coz I click it from a different country. EDIT : Yes it does in fact, for some reason it shows the proper one, yesterday i really copied the model I was shown when clicking on your link. Weird.

Anyway, is the Q9F the same as my Q9FN (bought in Switzerland so I'd assume it's ethe European model) ?

Can I install it you'd say ?
