So after installing the NEW firmware version 6.65101 both Netflix and Prime apps no longer trigger HDR for any show that was in HDR before the update. However YouTube does indeed show HDR now.

How jacked up is this now...WTF!!

I haven't had cable in years but I'm pretty sure current cable boxes use HDMI out. Are there no streaming options for Lakers games?

I had a similar problem after the first Oreo update in Jan. It broke Amazon HDR for me. Amazon, Youtube, Google Play Movies HDR were not working for me on the latest firmware until I did a factory reset. Painful I know, but if you rely on the internal apps it might be worth it.

Well after further testing, Google play movies works fine, and I tested The TICK on prime and it played in HDR, but movies that are UHD 4K like Transformers Last Knight only plays in 1080p.

Nothing shows or plays in Dolby Vision or HDR for Netflix, that includes Netflix originals. I did uninstall updates on both apps, and tested with no change. Updated both again and still nothing. I know this is an app issue, so a factory reset may be needed. I did a hard reboot already hoping that would fix the issue but no luck.

Is this normal? This is the black screen when switching videos in YouTube. My KS8000 never had this.

Hi guys

For those complaining about Android dimness, you can pull up the settings menu, and hit action button to adjust it's brightness and picture mode.

No, my Samsung did not, I must’ve gotten a good panel. So you’re saying this is normal on the specific model?

I totally agree with people saying all the menus are too dark, not just system UI, anything not video is too dark.
If you play a HDR video from YouTube "the HDR channel" the YouTube app controls are dark as well.
It's not too dark to be unusable, but it's uncomfortable.

Just a quick update, doing a factory reset did not change Netflix HDR issue after latest firmware update. Still no Dolby Vision or Atmos on shows that prior to the update had. Will be contacting Sony on the issue.

I experiened that in the past playing HDR 8 bit RGB full 1080p120hz...it was so annoying that it kept crashing the TV I just stopped using HDR except for 4K 60Hz at Ycbcr 10 bit limited.

Just updated to the new firmware...no reset, just upgraded in place...all settings retained, YouTube HDR triggers and displays correctly, and my Netflix Dolby Vision works fine, in 4K. I am one of those 100cd/m movie watchers, so the menu dimness doesn't bother me, but is welcome in HDR mode because the damn UI was always blinding me while doing 10 point HDR calibrations.

Thanks PlanetAVS and nolimit2k6!

I did try some HDR movies including the Red Dead Redemption 2 and now I see what everyone means when they say it looks dim, though the details were clear! I haven't changed any of the factory settings. Looks like I will have to try some of the suggested settings so I don't watch SDR programs brighter than I have to!

Yes, but it's a menu/switching screen and is not representative of material playback.

I updated to the 6.65101 firmware and definitely notice the dim UI overlays. Because everything seemed sluggish, I decided to do a Factory Reset and after that, UI looks normal brightness again. Anyone else have this experience?

To answer your question, YES. I did a full factory reset after updating to the lastest firmware version, and the UI is definitely brighter afterwards.

On a side note of the Netflix issue i was having, I now don't think this is an issue with the Netflix app after all, My GF shares her Netflix account with me, she has a standard account, and we both had access to HD & UHD content. Looking at the NEW pricing packages that went into effect in May, and seeing that you now must have the Preimun package to get UHD content, I'm thinking that must be the issue.

I asked her if she made any changes to her account and she said no, she did say though that before she had up to 4 devices could be on at the same time but now seems to only be 2, which the Standard sub only allows for.

Hey Captin, when you DO a Factory reset, all your previous settings are lost?
I have a written memory, but it takes time to input all data again…
Thanks in advance

Yes, doing a factory reset is just that, you have to go through the first time setup, and touch all your setting again. Wasn't that bad, only took about 30 min to do. If your thinking of doing a factory reset I suggest taking pics of your settings first.

I noticed the dimness right after upgrade. I factory reset twice and it did help at all. (There are two factory reset menus? Did I use e wrong one?)
Anyway, the main UI and all UI including YouTube app is definitely uncomfortably dim.

This is how Sony made the new UI for the new firmware...you are stuck with it until they decide to change/fix it, or not.

Well I did the factory reset. Definitely the dimness overall is gone!
It took more than 30 minutes to restablish all my settings.
To all with the dimness problem, I recomend the reset.

Holding the power putton down till the TV shuts down is doing a soft reboot of the android system. Powering off the TV and unplugging it for 3 min will do a hard reboot.

To do the factory reset you have to access HOME button

Select: Settings.
Select: Storage & reset.
Select: Factory reset.
Select: Erase everything.
Select: Yes.

As for the brightness of the UI, if you pull up "Picture Settings" from any input the UI still looks the same. If you select the HOME button to access the UI menu it's definitely brighter, and it looks as if the HDR settings gets engaged untill you choose an App or another function from the main menu. Before the factory reset the HOME menu was dim as was any app menu you selected.

Did the latest update fix the ARC issues? ARC is hit or miss for me, using the X900F and a Sony STR-DN1050. I have to shut everything off and turn it back on to get ARC to work. Sometimes twice.
