I don't know if it's because it's later in the day and the room wasn't AS bright but it's just like watching HDR or anything else. These are the settings I used if anyone wants to try them. I've also noticed that when using the Netflix app on the tv, shows that have Dv are labeled Dolby Vision. But if I switch to the Netflix app on my Fire Cube, those same shows are labeled HDR. Anyone have any idea why that is?

I've only gone back a couple of pages but am I reading things right? Has dark DV become a problem again with a new update? I haven't manually updated my software in probably 6 months or more but at the time it fixed the issue with dark DV. All of a sudden I'm noticing the issue again. DV was looking great but certain content is almost unwatchable. I could hardly see anything while watchin the latest Avengers. Strangely, watching Cars 3 looked great. Has something changed or is this in my head?

Ended up ditching my Harmony Smart remote in favor of the Sony’s remote. I just like the way it works with all of my components better. Is there any way to program the individual buttons on the Sony remote though? For example, I would like to add a “live tv” function when watching from my TiVo.

Does anyone notice that the Motionflow - True Cinema, Film Mode - High setting doesn't work well with Youtube in 60fps? It seems that whenever I watch 60fps Youtube clip with this setting, I have stutters.

I hear ya on that, sure you will lose quality going off to the side, but not to much unless you get way off to the side.

I guess it the new kick that the manufacturers have for the new models, they have to improve them/make them worse in some fashion to make people buy or even better update sooner then they should.

You can install the Button Mapper map on the TV, which allows you to map some of the buttons. The colored ones for example.

optical output on Sony 900F

How do you guys make the optical cable to stay in place.
The connector is recessed and facing down so the cable is not straight
and tilt on the side and some times fall down. Any tricks ???

Wow. So you used to be able to turn off the sponsored content on the home screen. Then for the last few weeks it would keep re-enabling itself every time you turned it off.

And now you CANNOT disable the ADS on your home screen. What a complete joke. This is not what I spent $5k for. Never again for Android TV.

RTINGS.com shows a way to eliminate some of the sponsored content. I haven't checked it out but thought you might want to know.

I saw that but disabling something called "Core Services" sounds a little risky especially when this thing is buggy enough as it is.

Nobody else? DV is working fine for everyone? Some content is unwatchable. I toggled between HDX and UHD on vudu while watching Avengers and HDX was brighter.

DV still is, and has always been dark for me on this TV. I don't use it. I prefer using an external streaming device that only uses HDR10 or has the ability to disable Dolby Vision. HDX always has the potential to be brighter than HDR, since TVs dim the overall picture when in HDR mode. Overly dim DV is a very common complaint for this TV. Some people might still deny it, but I think if they watched the same content in DV and HDR10 side-by-side, they would change their thoughts on it.

As others have stated, some DV content is much darker than others. There are some Netflix shows in DV that look plenty bright and colorful. Some other shows, such as Ozark, appear way too dark for me. It's kind of just all over the place. It's pretty crazy. On my 1080p TV, I never really had to worry about settings and different content much. Now with 4K HDR, I constantly mess with the settings, trying to get the right picture. HDR has really complicated things. I'm sure it will get better as the technology ages though.

Thanks for the feedback. The dim DV issue was blatant when I purchased the TV back in Dec/Jan. Then they release an update the fixed it, I think it was Oreo but I can't really remember. Now with the most current update it's dim city again. It's extremely frustrating. I'm using an appletv so I don't think I can turn off DV. It's sad when non HDR content looks remarkably better than DV. Sony really needs to get this fixed again.

I bought this tv a month ago and have had network speed issues the whole time that I don’t have with my other tv’s...anyone else have slow speeds with this tv? I am using my 5ghz network and the router is about 40 feet away in another room (no problem on other TVs) and I’m getting only 15-25 or so mbps and I sometimes can’t even keep a steady 4K stream. I have the latest update and it still isn’t near as fast as it should be. I’m almost thinking of buying a fire 4K stick due to this and plus since DV is so dark on the internal app too.

What tool are you using to determine your network speeds? If it is netflix be aware that netflix will only show the speed necessary to watch the stream, not the actual total speed you are getting.

Current system:
Sony 75X900e/Sony STR-DN-1080, CS-3/CS-8/CS5
Sony X800 4K blu-ray player/Dish Hopper3
Roku 4 Premier/Sony PS-4

What tool or website should I use on the tag to see a more realistic result?

Here is a picture of my 75” 900 F after about a week of use. This is the Northern Trust Open being streamed on YouTube TV. This is on the sports setting with no adjustments. I just like the shot because it shows how clean the screen is.

Aren’t there actually three rumors? Yes, No, and ‘some sizes’. That’s what’s been reported here, maybe someone can come up with a forth option.

How to test a display model?

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I made a rash decision yesterday and bought a Sony XBR85X900F display model. It was such a rash decision that I didn't even ask to look at the service hours. Not smart, I know. Regardless, they're delivering it next week and I have a 14 day return policy.

My question is: What tests should I run when it arrives to make sure the display is performing up to an appropriate standard?

Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question, but I'm more of an audio person and this is the first major display I've ever purchased.

Thanks!

if you got good deal it should be fine, there might be a way to check the number of hours tv has, invest in extended warranty to feel good.

My question is: What tests should I run when it arrives to make sure the display is performing up to an appropriate standard?

Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question, but I'm more of an audio person and this is the first major display I've ever purchased.

Thanks!
If you don't see any stuck pixels, screen delamination or bad DSE you should be golden. My 85x900f was a display model. These LCD sets can go for many years. I always buy an extended warranty on TVs as expensive as these. The display models you could say are thoroughly tested. I would be concerned with a year old display OLED but not an LCD.
