Just had an 85” delivered. Setting it up now and everything appears fine EXCEPT when I try to enable Dolby Vision on my Apple 4K TV. Then the screen goes green with white lettering. Is there a setting on the Sony I’m missing? Replacing a Vizio PX that developed a line of dead pixels in less than a month, which looks great now compared to the green screen!

So any ideas?
Dude....this literally happened to me today with my new products!! Check the Apple TV owner's thread for my answers I got today.

Just got my new 85" up and running (no settings adjusted yet)

When the screen is completely black there are 2 white 45 degree-ish lines in the top left of the screen.

What is the panel lottery I keep reading about? Do I need to return this for another one?

(Will be on this thread a lot as this is the first TV I have bought since 2011. This 4K stuff is all new to me.

I wish I could get the bottom of the DV issues as I don't have any on my particular unit. I just got done watching For All Mankind and thought the DV was stunning.

That is some pretty severe back light bleed and clouding. Does it show up in normal content with local dimming engaged? Local dimming usually doesn't kick in while on menu screens.

At your own risk, the microfiber technique has been shown to help in situations like this. But that's up to you, and I'm not going to tell you how to do it, but you could easily find out how.

Sony will probably tell you it's within spec, so you'll probably be better off exchanging it with the seller.

That looks like normal clouding when FALD is not enabled, (cool pattern though), unfortunately the Sony FALD TVs do not enable FALD on many splash screens so the clouding is visible. One of the benefits of FALD is it reduces/eliminates the visibility of clouding.

No one on AVS has been able to figure out why Sony does this. I would only worry about it if the clouding is visible when viewing actual content.

Current system:
Sony 75X900e/Sony STR-DN-1080, CS-3/CS-8/CS5
Sony X800 4K blu-ray player/Dish Hopper3
Roku 4 Premier/Sony PS-4

Yes that works as a DV workaround although the manual flip flopping would be a hassle (as any Sony X700 UHD player owner will be familiar with).

I'm in the same boat as you, DV has never been a problem on the 900F. Initially I thought that people that were having dim DV problems were watching SDR at overly bright levels. But then Sony acknowledged an issue by issuing firmware fixes so who knows?

I believe this is common for all FALD displays, from all manufacturers.

Hi all,

Got my 85' 900f on the wall finally, almost got the gear all hooked up. Gotta clean the screen, little bit of prints and dust going on.

So what's the consensus on screen cleaners, want something commercial. I've read about using dry microfibre, distilled water/vinegar/mild dish soap(one part to a hundred water).

Anyone have a cleaner or cloth they care to recommend? I was leaning toward Woosh screen cleaner, any negatives?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

The owner's manual (safety and regulatory booklet) says to use a soft dry cloth, and stubborn stains may be removed with a slightly moistened cloth with a solution of mild soap and warm water. Never spray anything directly on the screen.

I got my 65" X900F tonight and so far I am really enjoying it. I find myself not missing my 50" plasma yet. But I still have to do some more testing and tweaking of the settings. I did notice that my fire stick 4k was set to force hdr so it looked awful in the beginning but much better now. I also noticed that there was a bit of an issue with the sound syncing with the video. I am only using the tv speakers, no sound bar right now.

The tv is big but I am enjoying it.

How long did it take you to get the email? I just got my tv tonight and went through the app on the tv and got the welcome to Sony email but not the IMAX email yet.

I understand where the button is for the Google assistant. What I was asking is if it has a hands free always listening mic anywhere that will respond to the ok Google command like an Android phone does or like an Amazon echo or Google home will? I know I read that the X950G can do it and I was pretty sure I read that the X900F does have a mic built in but not sure if it works with the OK Google command.

So I have a Fire Stick 4k. I am trying to figure out the right settings for 4k HDR. If I set the fire TV to auto resolution and click display on the remote I am getting a 1080p signal on Disney plus 4k content but the tv does show the Dolby vision icon when I start playing something. It also shows Dolby vision in picture settings. So am I getting a 4k stream or a 1080p stream?

Also the Disney plus app on the tv won't load. It comes up with a network error every time but works fine on my fire TV. Has anyone else had an issue getting the Disney plus app to work on the tv? I wanted to compare it to my fire TV but I can't since it won't load.

disney plus is glitchy at most platforms i gave up on it and use ATV 4K, you could remove disney plus and reinstall it to see if it works, most people who have AVR connect to Tv do not use TV apps as they won't give Atmos full resolution, ATV is best in my opinion or ROKU ultra (for people not is Apple Echo system). X900F system is too slow for people who are used to Roku or ATV and no Atmos is deal breaker for me.

It started working. But I see no difference between the tv app and my fire stick 4k so I'll use the fire stick.

Hi, just hooked up my 900f. All is well except my cable box which outputs 1080i picture jumps. About 3/16" a couple times a second. Tried powering the box and tv down so far. What am I missing? The home screen and all else are perfectly stable. Hooked up to hdmi 1 direct.

Thanks!

The TV doesn't have a listener per se, but you can link the TV to Google Assistant/Amazon Echo and then control it via your Echo or phone.

So...I unplugged all, changed hdmi cable and switched hdmi input to 2. Solved the picture jump problem, just don't know which one fixed it, as I did all three at once.

Still have other issues, one problem at a time though. Oh me nerves!

Cheers

Sony XBR900F-85 in two words...God damn! It's like I'm actually there.

I drink too much, only had one drink; lasted twenty years.

Cinema home setting, brightness to twenty, all that was done(so far). If Avengers end game(blue ray 1080) looks like this, who needs 4K anyway.

Cheers

Your TV will upconvert the 1080p (2K) bluray to 4K so your screen is filled, it just won't be HDR. As they say, Guinness is good for you.

Still gotta hook up for internet and get a 4k blue ray player, so far so good though. 1080i through my old ass stb even looks good. I was worried the 85 would look grainy with the crappy input, not the case thankfully. Great processing, glad I bought this.

Best

I've had the Disney+ app loaded since it came out. No issues. Loads fast, trouble free. Love the Mandalorian.

I use the TV for all apps, I don't have an AVR, but do have a Sonos Soundbar hooked up. Great sound, love the 4K pic on most streamers.

X900F system is too slow for people who are used to Roku or ATV and no Atmos is deal breaker for me.

I've had the Disney+ app loaded since it came out. No issues. Loads fast, trouble free. Love the Mandalorian.

I use the TV for all apps, I don't have an AVR, but do have a Sonos Soundbar hooked up. Great sound, love the 4K pic on most streamers.
Yeah it started working later in the day so might have just been a weird issue. The Mandalorian is good.

I think my fire TV looks just as good as the built in apps. I also tried my Roku ultra to see the difference between the Dolby vision processing and hdr10 and thought that they looked very similar in terms of brightness. So I guess I'm not seeing the issues people are having with this set and DV.

Cinema home setting, brightness to twenty, all that was done(so far). If Avengers end game(blue ray 1080) looks like this, who needs 4K anyway.

Cheers
Just curious. I’m looking at this or the 75 inch. How far away do you sit? My viewing distance is 8-8.5 ft and I want immersion without being overwhelmed.

Viewing distance from main seating is about 18'. Unfortunately tv is a good 12"(from horizontal centre) above eye level. I've got a Sanus full motion mount that I use to hover the tv above a large cabinet that my center channel sits on top of. I'm able to tilt it toward eye c/l slightly thanks to the mount.

Panel is huge to me as I'm coming from an 11 year old Sony 52" W series. Still works fine, put it in the basement.

Best
