I would rather have any extra processor power available go towards producing a stunning picture quality. Than being sucked away by 100 plus vampires that i’m not going to be using.
I just ignore all those apps. How much content can one person consume?

I use an off air antenna, Directv, 4K Bku ray player, Amazon prime and Netflix as my content sources. That’s all I need and none of my sources needs a Google account to access.

Most if not all of the other apps needs a Google account (which I don’t have) to access. That just gives me an added reason not to use them plus most of the apps are pretty much superfluous.

Does disabling the Sony select apps remove them?

Have you done this using his method?

Any adverse effect?

Have had the 75 900 F for almost 1 year now. Experiencing some intermittent freezing of the picture. Not sure if its the HDMI cable of the set itself. Going to be a hassle if its the cable as it is running through the wall and the TV is on a wall mount. Also experiencing an issue whereby when the set is turned on, it sometimes goes right to the Google screen and then those colorful circles start spinning around and then it finally goes to a Direct TV channel.
Anyone?

***Wow - I never got clouding like that -- ever. You can see clouding on "splash" screens without dimming but I can't help but think that you're settings were way off on the Sony 900F you had. But - - as long as you are happy - - that's the most important thing. What was that clouding on? Anything that I can replicate? How does the OLED handle motion (like hockey?) Or, the torture banding test - - golf as they pan the camera to the sky, following the flight of the ball. Any evidence of tinting? If not - - you've got a great set! Enjoy.

Get your LG fanboy azz out of here...you fail to mention the BLOOMING from the X900F blacks is BRIGHTER than the peak HDR brightness of the OLED's white text...LCD's will always be brighter. When you need to get popcorn in the dark, you will miss the comforting glow of the X900F blooming lighting your path to the snacks at night! :-P

OLEDs are awesome picture quality wise but in no way is that a meaningful comparison. You had a defective 900F, I don't care what Walt's TV said.

New x900f calman autocal settings

I ran my X900F through Calman Home for Sony 2019 R3 and added the AutoCal settings to my master settings post. Enjoy.

And for those that were not aware, there is an X900F settings thread.

Most of them are not actual "apps", they are Android TV operating system services. Yes I disabled them per the video and disabled some additional services that I found from additional research. It makes a huge difference to the speed of the operating system.

With your anti Google beliefs, why you would buy an Android TV?

Try a hard reset which is unplugging the TV for 3 minutes then plugging it back in. If you are still having problems, then try a different HDMI cable running outside of the wall. Last resort is to try a factory reset.

Does disabling the apps/services get rid of them on the screen?

Overwhelming for the picture quality and to a much lesser degree price. The only other TV I considered was the Samsung 85 70R. I viewed them side by side and the Sony blew it away.

Don’t get too hung up on my Google “beliefs“. Google is ubiquitous so its hard to shut them completely out of my life. I just try to limit my exposure as much as possible.

Like I said I can use the TV for all my uses without ever logging into a Google account. So I’m happy.

Question for you....Do you think Sony will upgrade the 900F for Air play2?

You can hide pretty much every app on your home screen. Doubt that Airplay 2 is coming for the 900F

Thank you. I agree with his advice. Need to be careful as to which apps to disable/delete. As to not crash the Android core system.

2 guesses
1) License fees to Apple for the older TVs
2) Marketing feature to get those with older TVs to upgrade

Probably a combination of both.

Current system:
Sony 75X900e/Sony STR-DN-1080, CS-3/CS-8/CS5
Sony X800 4K blu-ray player/Dish Hopper3
Roku 4 Premier/Sony PS-4

Thanks,

Just [email protected]@king to clean up the features I don’t use. Also to get E.T. to understand he won’t be able to call home. He’s shipwrecked deep, deep, deep in the mountains of Kentucky. where there is NO internet available. To keep him from waisting resources in searching for a internet connection. MO POWER, yes........
