I never expected Sony to take apart the TV. I expected them to send a tech, verify the issue, and then do their standard in home replacement when the issue is not fixable and warrants a replacement instead.

I won't be stuck with because I have written and recorded verbal proof that they'll still do the exchange should they fail with Sony.

So let me get this straight, you saw the picture and you don't think Sony should be on the hook for fixing the TV and making it right? You really are a sucker then.
I think what you’ve uploaded picture wise looks completely unacceptable to me and there’s no way I could ever keep a set like that. Mine has the same issues as yours but it’s not remotely close to being as bad. I exchanged 3 total times for basically the same issue except one bent frame and kept the last set because it’s very minor and not visible from my couch. It’s probably pretty difficult to get a perfect set.

It’s a big pain in the ass to unbox, setup, take down and rebox a 75” TV 3 times. The process lasted for me almost 2 months and my wife was extremely pissed about the entire ordeal. Myself I just kept my cool and got rewarded for it with a 10% refund and $200 worth of gift cards.

According to my retailer (authorized probably matters) Sony reimburses them for the entire ordeal and it won’t cost them anything shipping wise for exchanges as Sony will be paying them for it. It’s definitely inconvenient on our end if they aren’t setting it up for us and etc though. I could understand why you’d want Sony to handle it because if they agree it’s easier for you, however, I’d have completed one exchange first then went directly after Sony. If they are authorized they should get reimbursed for the whole ordeal like my retailer claims happens.

If I recall correctly it’s because you’re outputting 4K you can’t change that setting. I’d check PS4 Pro settings and in game settings. I haven’t seen an issue in any game I’ve played on my PS4 Pro.

All depends on your preferences really.
QLED will have "better" (more saturated) colors. Sony has much better motion processing.
I watch a good bit of action movies and sports so motion artifacts are not acceptable to me.
I went to Best Buy and seen these side by side with the footage of fast running animals and you can clearly see Sony handles it os much better
Don't forget the Sony has Dolby Vision and the Samsung does not.......

Finally got some time to post my initial impressions of my new 85" 900F (thanks Chris @ Cleveland)!

One of the things i noticed was the initial blooming in a low lit room, because of this i use the light sensor whenever I can (wish Sony didn't disable this in HDR mode, it's one of the best features IMO)

Anyways i am coming from a samsung 64d7000 plasma which was a really great TV for its time and so take that into consideration when looking through some of my settings (most notibly the black adjust - which i felt like the TV had way too much shadow detail and not enough picture depth)

Picture adjustments menu

Picture Mode: Custom
Auto picture Mode: Auto
Brightness: 20
Color: 50
Light Sensor: On

Advanced settings menu

-- Brightness sub-menu
Brightness: 20
Contrast: 90
Gamma: 0
Black level: 50
Black adjust: High (wanted it to look like my plasma)
Auto Local Dimming: High
X-tended Dynamic Range: High

-- Color sub-menu
Color: 50
Hue: 0
Color temperature: Expert 1
Live Color: Off

Adv Color temperature [no changes]

-- Clarity sub-menu
Sharpness: 50
Reality Creation: On (I use this cause i use the same input for everything, and it helps with crappy sources and doesn't hurt good sources)
Random noise reduction: Off
Digital noise reduction: Off
Smooth gradation: Low

-- Motion sub-menu (I can't stand this, can't seem to get it to be perfectly smooth)
Motionflow: Off
CineMotion: Off

-- Video options sub-menu
HDR mode: Auto
HDMI video range: Auto
Color space: Auto

Let me know what you guys think!

You want Premium Certified cables. Click here.

If you want more flexibility and less stress on the connections they also have thin 36 AWG Premium Certified versions.

Always make sure you get cables with the HDMI associations certification label.

Enjoy.

Apps and wide mode

I still can't get 'wide mode: full" to change even when ps4pro is off and just using TVs movies and YouTube etc. Greyed out etc. And can't uninstall system apps as that's also unclickabke for me..just allows app permission to be clicked. Frustrating.

Care to explain why wide Mode:Full isn’t an acceptable setting for you? I have never changed this setting, which seems to be appropriate for all 720p, 1080i, and 4K pictures. What source are you watching that requires a different setting?

Playing ps4pro games. Mlb as example u lose sight of player if wide foul ball. Nhl 1i u dont see entire logo on some screens so obviously stretched. Just weird I can't change option and says unavailable or feature not available for current signal when I click 'wide' on remote. Even not using ps4 still wont let me use wide button for changes. But yes, movie looks good via Google but unsure if stretched as all other options greyed out.

Thanks for clarifying. Not being a gamer, I have not encountered these issues. I see no reason why the control shouldn’t be working for you.

Hi there Jerry! I think it's the first time I've seen you on the F board. Did you get one of these models?

A while back, Sony sent me a 75Z9D and that was the end of the good old days.

Be well, enjoy the Summer.

tonight I noticed that if I open a demo dolby visio, the xf90 goes into Dolby vision mode (image settings mode).
Default setting: Contrast and Lumosity Max, local dimming Medium, .......

Please can you tell me what is the best calibration for the dolby vision?

Thank you

Thanks. Still waiting on sony support. Lol. Regardless of device or hdmi slot it wont let me switch. It's ok.. moved on to decent calibrations search and trying to delete a lot of these silly apps..followed instructions but my system app settings are blue and wont allow me to click. Stuck with stupid apps 🙂 was expecting more from a 4k TV.. not much different than my old LG 1080. But to be fair only watched couple bluray movies and some Google movies with my crap wifi lol

Good day all,

My current TV is a Panasonic Plasma 65" purchased circa 2012. I've been wanting to bring this up to our master bedroom and replace it with a larger screen in our living room since we sit 14-15 feet from the screen.

The TV I've been planning to buy is the Samsung QN75Q9F. As I'm sure most of you know, this is the 2018 flagship model for Samsung in largest size offered of 75" and on sale through tomorrow. However, for a similar price, I could buy the Sony XBR85X900F and have 85" which is far more idea for the distance we sit.

I haven't personally compared the two TV's but based on my research believe the Samsung to be superior. I'm coming from a Plasma, so I'm used to excellent contrast and think Samsung came as close to OLED or Plasma as technology can at this time. That said, Sony's XBR line has always been excellent and was hoping some of you can comment on which set you'd get given my situation and your own experience. Given that through tomorrow the price is essentially the same, I'm going a bit nuts trying to decide.

Thank you in advance for any feedback you can offer.

Cheers -ChinaCat

The Samsung is probably the better TV is many regards but you need to ask yourself whether you value image quality over immersion. The technical differences between the two TV's may be smaller than the differences in picture size but that's something you need to decide for yourself.

fyi, this is the same dilemma that I've been balancing in my purchasing decision but I'm debating between a 65" Vizio PQ and the 75" 900F.

I'm starting to think the same way as the last few posts.

I would like to go bigger than my 70" Sharp I bought in 2012 (full array), but I don't think I'm improving PQ just size.

You can see oled is better but maybe just wait till I can buy a 77" for 5k.

If I buy now it will be a 85" 900f.

I'm thinking about waiting.

These are just my opinions.

Need calibration settings. Only couple online. Was hoping for more. Especially for sports and gaming. Most calibrations are full looking but understand it's more realistic. Want the 4k pop. 🙂 Going crazy trying..I dont know enough tech stuff.

Just got my 85” X900F two days ago. Only got to play with it for a few hours so far, but gotta just say WOW! Coming from a 70” Vizio E-Series (1080P), so it is a huge upgrade. I sit about 12 feet away and it honestly feels so immersive. Dolby Vision through Apple TV looks fantastic. But even non-4K material looks superb! I have one dead pixel that I can only see when I’m within a few feet.

Hey, already replied to the similar post. I just did exactly the same moving from 65" Panasonic to 75" 900F.
Again it is personal preference, but the Samsungs aren't superior. Samsung has more saturated colors, Sony has much better motion handling.
I seen Samsung and Sony side by side with movie of fast running animals and you can see ghosting around legs on Samsung. Sony's picture was much cleaner.
If you watch action movies/sports - that is something to consider. If you just want enchanted colors - Samsung.
Also I think Samsung does not support Dolby Vision. That is already a deal breaker for me. My Sony looks great with Apple TV 4k and Dolby Vision ON.

You nailed it and I believe our tv is as good as any at up-scaling older content. Even 720 off DirecTV looks great. It's a given the 4K sourced video will be great with most newer high end sets...but Sony really makes the older content look great. Plus there are so many picture modes and controls, the picture can be tailored to fit most any taste... whether you like vivid pop or softly accurate colors.

I love my 75" and the only thing I would change is I wish I would have bought the 85", bigger is better and I'm only sitting 11' away.
