Ordered my 55R617 from Amazon yesterday...

I've been having a very hard time picking a sound bar.... what's leaning you towards the 207?

Is it really all that better than the Samsung HW-M550/ZA that is $155 on buydig right now or one of the cheaper Vizio models?

This TV is just going in my bedroom...so don't want to go overboard but want to make sure dialogue is clear...

Just want to throw my two cents in. I got a Vizio one last week with the sub for 133 and I'm happy with it for bedroom use. I use it on my P607 and it works great. I think they have just the soundbar for around 90 or so.

I second the vizio soundbars. I have owned 4 and they are all amazing for their price and stature. Currently using the one with 2 surround speakers and awaiting the release of their dolby atmos versions this year.

I purchased a Polk Audio Signa S1. Its cheap, has plenty of bass and I think sounds very good.

Different skus allow a store to avoid price matching. It's extremely common.

As for the non-voice remote it allows BB to sell the set for $50 less. That's attractive to price conscious buyers, including me. It was the same deal with the 55p607 last year.

I haven't been following this thread but can someone comment on how much better the new 55" 6 Series is over last years 55P607? I have the 607 and love the TV. I do notice however on certain commercials or reds when panning down, lines on the 607. Everything else looks great however and PS Vue works like a charm on it.

Yep and honestly I had the p series last year with the wifi remote and i found it annoyingly easy to hit a button and go to a different app.

Main consern is warranty and repair.
Sets from Amazon are shipped individually. They get handled by many people at different steps of the delivery process and may get tossed around and stored flat. Amazon has a 30 day return.

Sets from BestBuy generally arrive at the local store on pallets. They're only handled once after they come off the pallet and are delivered to you. BB has a 15 day return unless you're a premium level customer.

Based on my own experience and what I read online the chances of shipping damage are less with BB but YMMV.

You can buy a Squaretrade warranty that's good no matter where you buy the tv.

Huh? What's the source of this info? Best Buy ships TVs from individual stores? Since when? Amazon does not use warehouses and palletts? Since when?

Best Buy now has store pickup available on the 55"

Thinking of canceling my Amazon order and picking up in store... considering all factors (different credit card cashback, best buy certificates, and sales tax (I live in 6% tax state, can pick up in 0% tax state)... the better remote would cost me $78.49... just doesn't seem worth it... anyone else have a different opinion?

I can only speak from personal experience. My 55p605 from BestBuy came on a truck from the local store. The local store got a supply of the sets that came on a pallet. Pallet-local truck-me.

I'm sure Amazon also gets the sets on pallets at warehouses. The difference is how many people handle the set after it leaves the pallet. Pallet-Warehouse worker-FedEx-me. The FedEx portion is where it can go through many hands, with a possible plane ride and a couple of truck rides, and gets tossed around with thousands of other packages. The Best Buy set may be handled by only one person who takes it from the pallet and puts it on the local truck.

There's no guarantee of no damage either way. I originally ordered a 55p607 from Amazon and it arrived with severe damage (posted pictures here). I wasn't alone, quite a few others also reported shipping damage. The packaging wasn't bad but there was no secondary box to protect the TCL box. From what I'm reading today it appears that TCL improved the packaging this year so the risk of shipping damage may be lower than it was last year no matter where you buy it.

Amazon definitely has tons of massive warehouses and stores stuff very orderly... I have a friend who holds a supervisor position at an Amazon warehouse here in Michigan.

I wasn't pointing a finger at Amazon. I'm sure 95% of any shipping damage occurs after it leaves an Amazon warehouse.

I agree with you. When they are at best buy and you go pick them up, they are just going from a pallet to you. When they are shipped from amazon, they are thrown on a truck by themselves, a lot more chance for one to fall over.

I think he is saying my Amazon tv is shipped 700 miles from the warehouse to me as a standalone unit. Local BB gets their s on a pallet.

Oh, well sure.

My feeling is whether it's on a pallet or not, it's the potholes that add up to the main stress of transport. And the potholes were there going from the container ship to the warehouse, regardless of where or whose warehouse we're talking about. Aside from a box being dropped, which one hopes their TV was not, bad roads are the main risk of transit-related issues (something comes loose due to shaking/impact), IMO, are unavoidable and also and issue caused by it is not likely to be spotted based on damaged packaging. But that's just me hypothesizing...

This has been my main question too. A few posters said the difference is the 5 series does not have Full array local dimming its edge lit.

Versions and Remotes (5 & 6 Series)

I asked TCL support about versions and remotes (for both 5 & 6 Series) and here is what they said:
Let us give you a clue of what store will sell the 5-Series which comes in 43”, 49”, 55” and 65” variants. We identify the 5-Series models by either “S517”, “S515” or “S513”. For example: 49S517.

We sell the ones that end in S517 (43S517, 49S517, 55S517 and 65S517) on Amazon, at Electronic Express and other resellers. Best Buy exclusively sells the models 43S515, 49S515, 55S515 and 65S515. Costco, Target and Sam’s Club will sell the models 43S513, 49S513, 55S513 and 65S513.

In terms of the remote control, the S517 and the S513 subseries comes with a voice remote. The S515 on the other hand, has the standard IR remote.

Let us also give you a clue of what store will sell the 6-Series which comes in 55” and 65” variants. We identify the 6-Series models by either R617, R615 or R613.

Costco, Target and Sam’s Club will sell the models 55R613 and 65R613. Best Buy solely sells the models 55R615 and 65R615. The models 55R617 and 65R617 are sold through Amazon, Electronic Express and other resellers.

In terms of the remote control, the models 55R615 and 65R615 come with the standard IR remote. All other models come with the voice remote.

The voice remote (RCAL5) for this year’s models will not come with a headphone port. We are yet to confirm the reason from our engineers. On the positive note, the Roku app (for smartphones) are compatible with our 5-Series and the 6-Series models. This enables you to listen privately to streaming contents and digital TV channels.

I just really hope the non-voice remote doesn't cause any future issues with the upcoming roku soundbar voice features. I would hate to realize 6 months from now that I bought the wrong version of this TV.

This seems extremely unlikely. For one, I'm pretty sure they're not just targeting the Roku Soundbar at TCL Roku TVs, and on top of that, they showed a video when they announced it that had people talking to it like you would an Echo or Google Home. I don't see how they could require a specific remote to make that work or why they would do it. I'd say if you're planning on getting the Roku Soundbar, you have nothing to worry about no matter which version of the 6-series you pick up.

So I bought the 65" 6 series (65R615) from Best Buy and will be picking it up in two weeks. I need to buy a TV wall mount, but I'm seeing conflicting sizes online.

The TCL manual states that the R613 and R617 models use a 300x300. Best Buy says that the R615 uses a 200x200. Elsewhere in this thread someone mentioned that they just bought a 400x400.

What am I missing here?

What am I missing here?
TCL themselves said it is 200x200 on the 65" amazon page

I think it depends on which size you get - TCL's website shows the 65" is 300x300 and the 55" is 200x200. Most 400x400 brackets will also fit smaller sizes, so I would just get one that does. I've never actually seen a 300x300 specific bracket.
