Poll: How Many TVs Do You Own?

How many TVs do you own? That's the question for this week's AVS Forum poll.

There is no precondition as to what kind of TV qualifies for the poll. Whether you have a CRT, plasma, rear projection, LCD, or OLED TV, it counts toward your vote. So please vote in the poll, and if you feel so inclined leave a comment describing your TV collection. Did they accumulate over time or did you buy them all at once? I'm as interested in anecdotes as I am in the raw numbers the poll generates.

I voted 4. Pretty straightforward. 75" JU7100 Living room, master br, patio and a 32'" Sammy for computer monitor. Bought one at a time. Newest purchase a 55" P607 for the bedroom pushing a 55" Sammy to the patio replacing a 43" Sony 1080p boulder that was too heavy to deal with so I gave it to a nephew.

Voted 8: 6 in use, 2 on the floor hoping to resell.
3 used constantly, 2 used intermittently, and 1 used whenever the wife's relatives are doing a freebie stay over.

2 OLED's, both 65 inch. Lucky if I put more than 3000 hours on them both a year, combined. My 2.5 year old EF9500 has 3400 hours, and my 1.5 year old E6 has 1800 hours. So they will last me quite some time.

I voted 6, but actually have 7 TVs. Miscounted the first time.

Livingroom TV, theater PJ, master bedroom tv, 2 kids, each with a tv, and a tv to display my security cameras. And one little tv sitting in a closet.

6 TVs total, 2 4K (1 3D), 3 1080p (1 3D), and 1 720p.

3 for each beadroom, 1 for the living room, 1 for the kitchen, and 1 on the arcade machine (the 720p).

I also have one projector and a CRT in the garage. I'm not counting the computer monitors because those are not technically televisions.

Actually, in todays world they kinda are. All of my tv watching comes from streaming. If I counted phones, tablets and computer monitors I'd be at 16 TVs!

Had a Samsung UN32F6300 in the living room and a UN32J5500 (best buy exclusive) in the family room. Both replaced large tube TVs within the last 3-4 years. Both are "smart" TVs. The 6300 died an early death, after a little over 2 years. Bought another UN32J5500 to replace it. Happy with both to date. Frankly can't tell much difference from the 6300, though the specs are tighter on the 6300.

I voted 2, both over the air (antenna) only. I recently dropped my cable TV signal, but before that all my computers with Windows Media Center were TV-capable through Silicon Dust HD Home Run Prime, which had 3 separate tuners accessible through my LAN. That would have made my count 5. Note I'm only counting devices used as TVs, not for streaming (which I seldom did until now, just signed up for Netflix).

I have two, one in the bedroom and one in the living room.

I bought a 65Z9D for the bedroom in April last year to replace a Sony 65HX929 that we used there.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a 75Z9D for the living room as a replacement for the X940D we had there.

Depending on whether it will have 3D or not, I am looking to replace one of the Z9Ds for the much anticipated Sony Z9F when/if it becomes available. If not, then the Z9Ds will probably remain my TVs until the next tech (MicroLED?) comes along.

We have 5 including the old 27" CRT that sits unused in the basement. There's a 65" Panasonic plasma in the living room, a 20" Samsung LED in the kitchen over the oven, and in the garage we have an LG 61" LED and above it is a 50" Samsung Plasma. That's so one of us can play games while the other watches tv. Our garage has living space with a kitchenette and bathroom. The "above" unit is on a swivel arm wall mount so we can turn it 90 degrees and watch while we sit in the driveway grilling.

Four is a nice number. It's bigger than three.

All the operable TVs I actually use are flat panel.

The first I bought was an inexpensive 32" LCD Visio (with fluorescent back lighting) from Costco. It doesn't have IPS, but the total viewing angle is close to 178 degrees, believe it or not.

The second was a 60"-class Pioneer 151 plasma. At its best, gorgeous. I use it for local broadcasts and streaming. Last night I played a concert BD with the sound going through my front Apogee Divas. Gloriosky.

The third was a "cheap" 4K LCD HiSense (around 45") with LED backlighting. Once you shut off all the automatic adjustments (including a wretched single-area (the entire screen!) local dimmer), the image quality is terrific. And this was a $400 set! It was a gift for an Amazon review. It has excellent upscaling. I watched the SD edition of "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" the other night, and almost thought it was a Blu-ray. Their customer-service guy has a strong engineering background, and actually knows what he's talking about.

The fourth is a 50" Sony 930-series, the last of the 3D sets (which is why I bought it). The 3D works without any glitches -- though there are times the set shuts down and restarts for no obvious reason. (Damned Android...)

My very first TV was a Sony "Tummy TV", the second a KV-1920 (unquestionably a classic), and an NAD MR-20 (later upgraded to MR-20A). I've been lucky. I've owned lots of "good" TVs.

PS: I have a 36" flat-face 4:3 Sony IDTV that was not counted, as I don't use it. $300 gets it. (It's a bear to move.)

I voted for 5. Actually only own 3 right now: 1 LG OLED 55 C6 for the living room, 1 32" Sceptre for my "den"/kitchen area, 1 old 46" Sharp bought in '07 mounted in my bedroom. Will need 2 more TV's soon for a new condo up in Philly.

Two, but that doesn't include my main computer and a laptop, where I watch quite a bit using MythTV and Netflix, and an iPad and iPhone where I sometimes watch HBO GO.

I voted one, for the actual Visio television in the living room.

But in practical use, I count at least 6 different computers and mobile devices in the household that can play back the network stream of our OTA antenna’s live TV signal through our HDHomeRun, and the recorded TV content on our Plex server, not to mention Netflix. I actually do watch some TV on the 27” NEC computer monitor in the man cave. I figured this wasn’t the intent of the poll so I just said 1.

The average ownership life of my TVs has been about 8 years each, probably higher because the average is skewed by the only 3 years I’ve had my current one. They never break, so I end up selling or giving them away if we don’t have room when I want a new one.
