2018 Samsung FALD Q8FN Owners thread - No price talk

This is the other FALD television from Samsung this year.

Available in three screen sizes: 55", 65", 75" (82" coming)

All 3 sizes have 40 dimming zones - for reference the 65" Q9 has 480 zones

The Q8 does not have the one connect box (the ports are on the back of the television)
Top_Cat, ray0414 and =caballero= like this.

LG 65B8 - Primary
LG 55EG9100 - Bedroom
Sonos Playbase
MS Xbox One S (using strictly as a disk player)

Any way you can edit the title and put "fald" in the title for those who aren't aware? I'd bet not many people know.

No problem. @ray0414 I'm able to update it within the thread but is there a way to update from the LCD Flat Panel Displays list?

When you edit the 1st post I believe it gives you the option to edit the title, but after you do so I think it has to be approved.

Q9 is 480 zones and 2000 nit. We're hoping q8 has half of that and 240 zones.

Hi! Q8 2018 owner here. Coming from a 930E, I exchanged it for this. So I have had this set for a couple of days now so just feeling things out and also playing around with whether to stay with this set or spend the little extra to get the Q9. Added a couple of photos that I also posted in the Q9 2018 forum so others can get idea of what they would be getting out of Samsung this year. As I have said in my initial thoughts on the Q9 2018 forum: this is as close to OLED as I have seen an LCD LED get.

Modernize on YouTube also counted 480 zones on his review of the Q9 2018. Its Samsungs answer to both the Z9D and OLED television.
(Couple hundred more dimming zones, 2000 nits, maxed out inky black levels....hmmmmmm ☺️ )

Why are all the "Owner's Threads" here at AVS becoming train wrecks these days? The Samsung QF9N "Owner's Thread" became more about the Sony Z9D and this one is all about the Samsung Q9FN. Apparently adult supervision is needed. Can a proactive moderator start monitoring these threads and delete all of these irrelevant posts about other TVs?

I have an interest in the Q8FN, not the Q9FN which already has two threads devoted to it.

I voiced the same via PM to the wrong person last week. While I don't own either 2018 QxF yet, the excitement of a traditional Owner's Thread has been greatly diminished on AVSF this year. I'm fairly certain new owner's are just steering clear of them. Shame to see the site go down hill for Samsung owners.

Looking forward to seeing owner feedback and hopefully getting a confirmation on the zone count.

A non owner starting a thread is start of that demise - for owners thread you should have at least the unit coming your way and you should be ready to contribute...

Well since it's apparent that nobody is mature enough to get over that, maybe some AVS moderator can just close the thread. I don't care who started it, I just want info about the Q8FN.

I'm done with this nonsense.

I did a zone count and came up with 210. Some say that it's supposed to be half of what the 2018 Q9 is. Picture contrast is fantastic! As you can see on BvS, the black bars stay inky black in spite of the uber bright explosions.

And the person who made this thread did so in the hopes of Q8 owners having a thread to share initial experience and info, and for potential owners to see what they could be getting and form their opinions. Just like in the Q9 2018 forum, they bring up the Z9D because that is the only other high dimming zone FALD set to compare to, along with OLED for dark contrast and clarity. Also included a gray uniformity shot

200+ is really good. Do you know how many zones up/down and across it is?

200+ at 65 inch might make it the real sleeper compared to the q9.

It almost certainly has an optical digital audio port.

There is conflicting info on the Samsung site, so somebody should provide something a bit more definite than "almost certainly".

The manual that comes up for that model indicates it has one as well.

On Samsung's website they list an optical cable as coming with the Q9/Q7 models and nothing with the Q8/Q6. I believe they are talking about the cable that attaches to the one box which comes with both.
