I couldn't get Plex to direct stream much to mine either until I went into the settings on the TV app and changed the bandwidth limit on it. It's set very low by default. I quit using Plex when I realized the TV plays most of my stuff anyway and mostly use the internal app to play.

Are the expert picture settings necessary? Or can most people do without?

Whoops!!
No i don't get Atmos from the Plex app. I should have wrote I get Atmos/DD+ from the internal apps, like Vudu and Amazon. But I get 7.1 DD+ from Plex and 5.1 DTS from my UHD BD rips when played through Plex on the TCL.

Ahhh, l was going to ask you if you had the 55 or 65. I got the 65 and haven’t had any issues thus far. Loving the picture quality and the Roku interface. It comes down to what the alternatives are at that price point, and to me, the R just hits a sweet spot that can’t be matched by other brand’s offerings. The only other FALD display that may come close is the Vizio P Series, since the M series doesn’t have WCG.

show us a picture of the tv from the front. also, show a picture of the level on the furniture. what i can't see in the pictures you included is anything that demonstrates the tv is somehow "bent" or not level?

also, how long have you had the tv and where did you buy it from that they don't have it in stock and are they not going to get anymore? why not go for a refund?

it looks like the bezel is separated from the TV? Is that what the picture shows?

The same level was used on the wall next to the TV and it's perfectly level. The frame of the TV is bent. It is not straight.
I would have immediately returned the TV, but Target does not carry it in-store, and I'm told it's no longer for sale on the website....
So yes I could return it, but I also got a great deal on it and would rather get it swapped out for one that isn't bent.

cool, but, you still didn't answer the question, how long have you had the tv? are you saying Target would't accommodate you to return the obvious defective product you "just" purchased and not offer you a replacement, whether in stock or backordered?

so again, how long have you had the tv since the day you purchased it? and can you show us a picture of the tv so we can see if the "frame" is bent?

I received the TV late last week. I contacted Target the same day. They claimed since the item is no longer listed on their website they can't exchange it. The only option they gave me was to bring it back to the store. Which I could do, but I won't get an exchange as they don't carry it.....

You don't see the line of the frame as crooked? It is not straight as the level proves. If I put up a yard stick the top would be 2-3 inches off from the bottom. It's warped/slanted as it goes up..... Or the way the TV sits on the stand is defective. Some TV's lean forwards due to the weight. This one is leaning back. Does yours do this? If so, maybe it's just how they are made? I feel it's difficult to watch as it's noticeable the top is further back than the bottom.

So why not return it and buy it from someplace else -- like BB?

And I don't see how at this point this is TCL's problem.

TCL made the TV? It's deformed? Why couldn't they replace it?

Because Bestbuy would cost me $350 more...

The obligation to remedy a problem with a week-old set that is bad lies with the vendor when you easily return it. It's not TCL's problem at this point. I agree that they have no obligation.

What size TV is it that it would cost you $350 more at BB?

Perhaps you could wait a month or so to see if BB lowers its prices or the set comes back in stock at Target. If not, it's just a bad break. That happens.

the problem as i mentioned is we can't see the "bend" in the tv. if you say you find it unwatchable, that may be, but, unless you watch tv from the side of it, then we can't see the "bend."

take pictures of it from the front as you would watch tv perhaps we can see the "defect" or "bend" in the frame. also, based on the way you have the level situated, it would not only mean the frame is bent from front to back, but the panel would also have to be bent which would mean, based on the bubble, it should be cracked.

also, is this a 6 series model tv we are talking about? i mean, this is the "TCL 65" 6-Series 4K HDR TV" thread. you make it sound like Target is saying they won't sell them anymore since you said it's not on their website anymore. only TCL tv's i see listed at target in my area are "S" series tv's and this is not that thread.

what model tv do you have?

Due to depth when taking pictures the problem won't show up from the front via a picture. This is why I took the pictures from the side. The TV is not cracked. Nor is the frame. It's just bowed 2-3 inches when comparing the bottom from the top. It sits at an angle backwards. This is a 65R617. Target has taken the model off of their website for whatever reason. Maybe because of this defect? They took them down the day my TV arrived.

Or perhaps because they are out of stock for awhile. I am interested in this TV and have found that on a few sites it is out of stock.

nobody makes a tv that "leans forward or backwards" curved, yes, leaning, no! all tv's are designed to sit level on the stand/legs/feet provided when it's placed on a level surface.

no, my tv's don't "lean" all 3 of my TCL tv's are wall mounted and they are not "bent" or "leaning" as they are structurally fine.

The picture you attached above does not seem to show a bend of 2-3 inches. Not saying it's not bowed somewhat, but it looks more like in the range of 1/2 inch.

Also, keep in mind that it is pretty common for a lot of these very thin flat panel TV's nowadays to have some bowing. It might happen in shipping, I don't know. Again, I'm not saying your set is acceptable, as I haven't seen it, but I have some very slight bowing in my $3000 LG OLED, and I know others who have the same set have also experienced this.

In the end, only you can decide what is acceptable to you, but in the modern world, it is often the case that every TV will have some slight issue (bowing, banding, etc.).

Actually, some flat panel TV's do lean back a tiny bit. This was discussed on the LG OLED thread, and there was a reason for it. But I forget what it was now. I think it had something to do with the stands and the center of gravity.

From what I see in his pictures, his set does not lean back to an unusual extent, and it seems to be comparable to the OLED sets I have seen.

not to the extent it's unwatchable, or is so much that it's a distraction, nobody builds something like that.

Agreed. The extent of the "lean back" in the LG OLED"s is very slight. You can only notice if from the straight-on side view and only if you're looking for it. It doesn't affect the watching of the set to any degree.

P.S. A quick search revealed that, kn addition to a thread about OLED's on this forum, there is also a thread about some Sony flat panel TV's having a slight bit of lean back.

as some tv's strive to get thinner and thinner yes, they are more susceptible to some degree of warping out of the box, this is fact. but, the amount the guy is potentially talking about is clearly a defect.

my friend has a sony and yes, his has some warping, it's even discussed on forums, again, a large degree is a defect.

for the poster, i'd say screw the deal, if target isn't carrying the tv anymore, for whatever the reason, i'd get my money back and go buy another one somewhere else that carries them.

precious time is wasting posting here, take the tv back, get your money back and go buy a non leaning tv and be happy.

LOL. I spent several years in No. Va. Attended UVA for 7 years (undergrad and law). Lived in Falls Church for several years and married my wife, who was born and raised in Falls Church. Both of us attended Bishop O'Connell HS.

no, my tv's don't "lean" all 3 of my TCL tv's are wall mounted and they are not "bent" or "leaning" as they are structurally fine.
???? Sony makes an OLED that leans back. Like a painting on a easel.

i'm referring to the poster with the pictures of the level on his tv. he's saying his lean is a defect because it's extreme and i agree, to have that much of a lean (not by design) is a defect. the sony thing you are talking about, i gather is an "artsy" thing, is that correct?

lord i feel like this thread has had a "lean" put on it!
