Can't wait. Will you be sharing with us your measurements for contrast with local dimming turned on? I'm really curious where that lands.

Available for pre-order?

Once the embargo lifts, will the 6-series also be available for pre-order? My understanding is that it is "shipping" on May 1, which is my birthday. Happy birthday to me. I'm getting the 55"!

It's available for pre-order right now at Tiger Direct (the 55" model anyway) for $686.99. TCL's official announcement of the 6-Series said it would be in stores by May 1st... the way I look at it, anything between now and May 1st fits that window of availability

...and wasn’t TCL’s announcement that the 55 would stay the same price? $650? Is that Tiger Direct jacking up the price?

So are the results of the 55" reviews considered applicable to the 65" reviews. (With the difference being zones appx. 96 vs. 120 and size..obviously)

I don't know that they did anything that would have committed them to a $650. Yeah, there were some casual affirmations of it being the same price as the P series model from 2017 in CES videos, but nothing I'd say could hold TCL firmly to that price. I suspect it's going to list at $699.99... the 55" model, that is.

Mixed reviews on this dealer, which would also call into question their pricing. Could be compared to other bait and switch dealers that have been discussed on the forums

Both the 55R617 and the 65R617 are available on amazon now. $649.99 for the 55" and $999.99 for the 65". I went ahead and ordered the 55R617. Scheduled to be delivered on the 8th of May.

I'm glad I was wrong on both counts there... especially the 65" version; I fully expected it to be $1,100 (I commented more on this in the "in stores by May 1" thread). I'm very anxious now to read Imagic's review! I've got a sense that this 6-Series is going to be a game changer!

Well, now that the prices are out there I will say that if I was a TV maker with a name starting in S, L, or V I'd be concerned about the value the 6-series offers at this price point.

On Tuesday TCL told me this regarding color accuracy:

"An iPQ engine is really designed to deliver accurate color out of the box without any need for calibration or any other settings adjustment by the customer. And there's two elements that TCL is putting together to drive the iPQ engine technology: One, TCL one of three global TV brands that are vertically integrated; we produce the panel, we produce the backlight and we produce the whoe module assembly.

So, we understand the performance of every component that's going into each TV since we've measured that earlier in the production process. Then, we have algorithm running on the TV, knowing the performance of those components. Therefore, we're able to take out any slight variations that may contribute to color error in that tTV, without needing to have the customer do a calibration or adjust some other settings. You're going to see out of the box, we're trying to get as accurate color within the DCI/P3 color space accurate as possible, right out of the box."

Sounds great on paper, even better if it works which I hope it does. Currently have the 55P607 as the main TV, have the space to replace it with a 65". Will consider the 6 series TCL 65" as well as OLED. Keeping an eye out for reviews.

As far as picture quality goes, yes. They're still selling last year's C series as well, which has a nice finish and design but lacked local dimming.

WOW This is really cool if I understand correctly. They are characterizing each component pixel by pixel and unique correction maps for each TV's components are placed in the TV's CPU so that all manufacturing variances are largely removed.

Easy question for imagic. I assume you've assembled it. Does it appear as though you could reverse the feet to angle in instead of out like on the 900f? I've got a bout 45" to work with and that would likely make difference without buying mount stand or wall mount. Am excited about this review. I'm sure the picture is great. Things like motion for sports, reflections and cable box scaling will be the decision makers for me. Thanks for being a great resource.
