"Like the other models, it will support HDR10 and Dolby Vision, and be based on the Roku OS with access to apps such as Netflix and HBO. TCL says that it will cost $1800." But this was in Jan 2018.
That's talking about the 75" 6-series. We have no information on what the 8-series will cost, but it will probably be a lot more.

I have the Samsung NU8000. It's a great tv, however I am always looking for something better. Do you think I should pick up this tv? I hear so much crap and the panel lottery on the 6 series. I was looking to get the 55 inch version. Yes I know the 65 inch is a steal right now but I cant afford it.
If you have an NU8000 and can't afford the 65" TCL, you should probably stick to the NU8000 and wait for something even better to come along. It's not like you're coming from a 2015 TV. Wait until you no longer call your TV great before replacing it.

What I did was and this is pretty masterful on my part. So I got the NU8000 55 inch from Amazon and I told them I wanted to return the tv and it was defective. I told Amazon that I didnt want to order another expensive tv while I send the return back and waiting for Amazon to refund me cause I didnt have alot of money. So Amazon did an instant refund back on my CC and I just ordered the TCL 65 inch hahaha. Amazon said make sure you send the Samsung back within 30 days. Now I have 27 days to test both tvs out to see which one is better without shelling out more money. Lol So I will make a comparison and post with my feedback on the TCL.

Did anyone else watch the last season of game of thrones? There was a ton of vignetting on dark scenes.
I'm sure this is HBO and not the tv?
Comments?

Wow totally impressed the TCL 6 series. I got the 65 inche and its beautiful. I have no DSE. It has alittle black corners but it's very little cant even notice it. This tv is way better then the NU8000. I have both tvs because Amazon has been sending me crappy tvs so I ordered the TCL 6 and I am comparing the tv to the NU8000. Its night and day folks. This is a high quality tv with excellent picture and upscaling. I havent tried HDR yet or gaming on this tv but I will this weekend. I am sure its even better. Anybody who buys a Samsung Q8 or Q9 or a Sony X900F are stupid you are just wasting money. They maybe slightly better but not for an extra $1000. People need to get this tv. It's a steal. I was skeptical myself but once I hooked it up just wow totally impressed.

I got mine from Roku. But some people on the thread also got the remote from TCL.

Getting it from TCL is probably better, if you need the mute button.

Hey guys!

I am likely going to wait a month or two to decided on a 65" bedroom TV to replace the 55" OLD Viera I have in there now, which will then get relegated down to my basement weight-room. I really want to see, both what the 8 Series has to offer and if the launch of that series kicks the 6 Series down even more before I decide. My instincts may be right on this, because Amazon has the 65R617 for the lowest price I have seen it, other than refurb, of course. But the set is down to........................wait for it.........................$699.99! And the 55" model is also lower priced a $528.99.

55R617:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...DKIKX0DER&th=1

65R617:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...DKIKX0DER&th=1

Also, if you don't already know, if you don't want to order from Amazon, you can always walk into a store like PC Richards that does price matching. As long as they can verify that it is an official Amazon sales page, and not a third party seller, they will meet the price.

Edit: Note that right now PC Richards has it for $100.00 more than Amazon, but as I said, if you walk into the store, and show them the Amazon page with their official price, they should beat Amazon's price.

If I were buying electronics I'd buy it now rather than later with the tariff issues....

$699 is what BestBuy has had the 65R615 on sale for. Granted the remote isn't the enhanced model like the 65R617 but should there be issues dealing with a local retailer has advantages.

My 65R615 from BestBuy has been superlative. Just got through hooking it up to my computer. I'm running it in a cloned dual monitor mode with my 24" computer monitor. Fantastic!

25% tariff on items imported from China. If it's on the boat now, no charge, but as future shipments come in there will be a charge as things stand at the moment.

Yes. I got a 32" TCL for the bedroom and saw the app, then installed it on the 65". I was a little leery about the "future charges" part of the agreement, but hopefully I get notification before they start charging me for it.

Have anyone use this TV as an PC monitor. I read from rtings that it has problems something about pixel shifting where you could see small lines on the screen. Was that only for the 55 inch or 65 inch? and also has anyone on PC overclock the monitor to see how high the hz are? I know this TV is 60 hz but can it be OC to 75 at least?

I've tried the app several times and have never gotten it to work. I wonder what the trick is.

I was going to hold out for the 8 but with it coming out in August and with Tariff not possible. 4k up to 65" it seems, 8k 75" and larger. But the 8 looks so damn tasty! TCL X10 (8 Series) 4K Mini LED TV Detailed: 768 Zones; 15360 LEDs

In the report Vincent said it, the 65", would be £2000 or more so $2537 or more.

I'd take that as a rough idea for now Should you wait, that's up to you

Damn yeah too rich for my blood. DO you happen to have the TCL 6 series and recommend it? Only thing I'm afraid of is the 60hz panel for my PC monitor and wont be future proof for PS5.

Sorry, I don't have a TCL, I have a Samsung and I'm hesitant to get rid of it, first because it will display 3D, and second, like you, $2500+ is a bit rich for my blood at this time

Yeah I have a old 1080p set and I was just thinking of getting this just to have an 4k TV. I don't want to spend too MUCH money because I feel like the tech going to change a lot in 2-3 years aka HDMI 2.1 and other new panels. I think this TV aka TCL 6 series would hold me down until then and not break the bank.

One can't simply multiply the exchange rate to determine prices in different countries. That's not the way works. For example - on Amazon a current model selling for 1,500 pounds in the UK sells for only $1,100 in the US. Manufacturers price products very differently in different countries. In addition, EU prices have the VAT included in the price.

That said, according to Vincent, the TCL price in not yet committed (even in the UK) and very vague.

I just realized something with my 6 series. Since the 9.1 update I can no longer enable local dimming in game mode. With os 8.x local dimming could be engaged in game mode.

Is this a known bug?
Edit:I guess it's just in SDR mode? With hdr content while in game mode local dimming is working on my set. So maybe it was like that before?

After some unsuccessful shopping around on my own, I finally contacted the Imaging Science Foundation directly to find calibration services in my area. They put me into contact with Doug Weil from Clearly Resolved in St. Louis. He travels the midwest and should be in my area (Quad Cities) this summer. I'm excited!

This quote from rtings dot com convinced me to go all out and get the 65 incher done by a pro- "Post calibration, the TV is one of the most accurate TVs on the market."

Not bad for an $800 TV! Actually, the set was $1000 when I first started reading reviews. And now I see it has dropped to $700.

Just became an owner of 65R617, connected via hdmi to my lappy and put a few testing images on and I noticed vignetting issue on all four corners, with the bottom left one being the darkest. I had some mental prep already for this "dark corner" but did not expect to be like this. I will try to snap a few photos later at night, the room I put this tv in has four skylights.

Anyway, this is my first 65 incher, and I understand the uniformity gets harder at larger panel. I had a crappy LG 49uj6290 with bad black uniformity, but did not experience the dark corners this obvious. I also used some gradient color pixs (gray, blue, green) and all of them display some vertical bands when the color gradually change from left to right (darker green to lighter green for example). Is this the "banding" you guys referred to?

I hate to return this (bought it online) and if the vignetting and other stuff are within normal range, I'd just keep it. Thanks in advance.

Here are a few screen pix in dark. I think there are some banding in the gradient images, also I noticed two slightly dark spots/patch when doing the hockey DSE tests viedo on youtube. In uniform solid colors, it looks kinda ok banding wise, but in the gradient color pix, the center portion shows vertical bandings, espeically green/blue/gray

Can you guys give me some comment if this is worth the hassle of exchanging?

This quote from rtings dot com convinced me to go all out and get the 65 incher done by a pro- "Post calibration, the TV is one of the most accurate TVs on the market."

Not bad for an $800 TV! Actually, the set was $1000 when I first started reading reviews. And now I see it has dropped to $700.

Question, are you still enjoying your set now? I'm thinking of either this tv or the lg sm9000 because of the future proof of HDMI 2.1 that it has (gamer here). But I feel like I should just get this TV and wait a few years for the whole HDMI 2.1 gets settle down and perfected like HDMI 2.0. I'm in a situation where I don't know what to do and if I do go with the TV you got, I might just get the 65 inch even if its in a bedroom and I'm sitting 5.5 feet away from it LOL.

@JR-78, Doug does great calibration, as he has calibrated my JVC RS420. In fact, he was just here in April. I am in the Quad Cities, and he does travel the mid west often.

Semi Pro calibrated this set looks amazing, I'd love to see what a pro could do. I bought a moderately price colorometer and calibrated my display last year and it simply stunning. Took me many hours and I plan to run tests on it now that I've been using it for a year to see how much drift there is. I had my previous display done by a pro so I know what a properly setup display should look like.
