Thank you so much for this post. Updating to firmware 9.2 in my 75 TCL 6 Series literally broke the handshake between the TV and my Denon S950H. I downgraded to firmware 9.1 and it fixed my issue. Thank you!

Their emails and websites are pretty unclear, perhaps on purpose. Anyway most likely it will work out though, just will take some time.

I'd love for them to cut me a check, then I'd worst case go buy the new, better 6 series and have $100-200 left over! But we will see.

When I had a drawing display fail outside of warranty, I fell back on my CC company for the warranty, YMMV...but they required a letter from an IT professional stating that the device was dead. After I sent all required documentation (receipt, dates, letter, etc...) they issued a check in the full amount that I paid, not the current price of the product.

Weird about the complaints regarding Roku 9.2 vs 9.1. Haven't experienced any issues here.

Hey guys, my Samsung pn60f8500 is going through the screen on/ off cycle. I had it since it came out, early 2013. Looks like it's a few hundred to fix and I'm not sure it's worth it. Looking for a replacement. Like to keep it under $1000. Watch mostly DirecTV, Netflix and hockey. I was interested in the TCL Series 6, till reading on this thread and elsewhere about DSE and motion blurring, both of which would not be great for hockey. However I'm also seeing conflicting info that these issues are not as prevalent of late. What's the latest on the TCL, especially when viewing hockey? Also, I've read some viewers get a bit disappointed going from plasma to LED. Other info: I have home theater, so built-in sound not a concern. Same with viewing angle. Think the TCL will do the trick? Any other recommendations? Thanks so much for the help!

I have a 55R615 and use NHL.TV thru the native Roku app and Apple TV4K. Also watch all local Kings/Ducks games as well as NHL Network/NBC Sports thru my Frontier Fios cable box...hockey looks awesome on this tv. Just make sure the overall TV brightness is lowered to "normal" or below as the ice can appear too white even on a warmer color temp setting ( I use "movie" on all inputs). No issues with motion blurring or DSE on my set.

No problem. Forgot to mention that I was also coming from a plasma (Panasonic P50S60) and was worried how hockey would look on it, no regrets at all so far, extremely happy with this tv.

On a lark, I put a 55R615 next to my plasma display just before March Madness. Both plasmas have since been sold, and I'm watching a 75R615, so you know my bias. I was not surprised that the rating site Rtings.com gave these TCL's the highest motion scores among native 60Hz panels. After 6 months, I've noticed a couple things.

Motion quality is poor when the program is poor. Some production techniques work better than others.

Motion quality in sporting events is uniformly excellent. As long as the camera captures natural motion during the exposure, there's a blur that blends everything seamlessly.

Have fun,
Frank

Guys I have a question. What are most of you using for your pq settings. I have been running pretty stock except for pic mode - movie gamma 2.2 and backlight 20%. My TV is in a light controlled room so I can black out the room. I always thought it looked like a dusty haze was covering the screen so today I switched to normal pic and left all else the same and the pic seems alive. Not overblown like vivid just the haze is gone, colors feel the way they should. I'm curious what you all use. I know all TVs are different but has anyone played with the 10 point scale. Curious on your settings if you can post them and how you have your settings set.

I watch a lot of NFL on mine and watched some NHL playoffs last year and they looked about as good as my 900F.

Can somebody with a r615(or 3 or 7) with a 4k Netflix membership try the first episode of the test patterns show. Let it load until it's full bandwidth at 4k(15 or 18000kbs I think at 10bits) and let me know whether the 1px pixel pattern band across the middle also goes over the image? It looks like an emboss of sorts over the girls face and on her hair above her forehead.

Weird shadows on my tcl 6 series. Not dse, something different.

This just started happening a few days ago. Sometimes the shadows appear in different parts of the screen and in different shapes and sizes. They seem to go away if I disconnect to hdmi and reconnect or if I power cycle the tv. I switched to hdmi 2 and they were still present so it’s not just a bad hdmi port, I think. Any input would be appreciated.

Looks like you can no longer downgrade to 9.1. It just gives you the option to install 9.2 again. TCL really needs to fix this...

WHich one is it? The only 10bit one I see does not have the girl in it.
There is one that lists HDR10 in the title. Is that the one you are looking at?

What Season and episode is the one you looked at? Otherwise I have never noticed what you described with the test patterns.

EDIT: I checked out one of the Dolby Vision episodes. Season 4 Episode 3. That has what you described.

EDIT: I looked at a few more episodes, non HDR. I am also seeing what you described. This is a Netflix issue. Not a TV issue. I see the same thing on my Sony UHD TV. I do need to get very close to the screen to see it though. On both TVs.

Is Netflix the only method of getting a test pattern up? I just bought the 615 and I read that you should always use the test pattern to check the TV before return period.

It was season 1 episode 1. I don't see it on my Vizio. I think it might be an encoding/decoding troubleshooter

This is a specific test pattern. I don't know what you read but I'm guessing it was a uniformity one. You can search for uniformity test pattern on youtube, it's a bunch of greys, there is also one with a hockey dude floating about with different shades of gray.

I looked at it from multiple devices connected to both TVs. I saw the same thing from every device. But I needed to be extremely close to the screen to even see it. And even then it was very faint.

I mainly game on my 6 series, so I’ve noticed lately a green/purple haze in the shadow detail and skyboxes on my set.
It has been particularly obvious when playing God of war or Horizon.

I initially thought it was the YouTube app on the set, but it has been more apparent with all content as of late.
Is this inherent with the tech (dithering/posturization) or is something happening with my tv?

after 9.2 my PC (Windows 10) stopped showing HDR properly. It was showing extremely dim. I'm not sure if it was just limited to Nvidia cards, but TCL released another update today and it has fixed the issue.

Every one says use "movie" mode, but I prefer normal mode myself for the same reasons you describe. In normal mode, I drop backlight down to 45, gama 2.2,

Movie mode does work well for older films with a lot grain, especially 4k movies where grain becomes too noisy. But for modern stuff shot on digitial and general tv/sports, normal mode works great and things pop.

I also find (at least on my TV), Dolby Vision is too dark with crushed blacks and some films looks like wearing sunglasses. HDR10 is much better, so I force HDR10 on via secret menu.
