I recently Purchased a 55 inch 4 series for my bedroom. I’ve owned the 6 series 65 for over a year now. I will say that I do love both sets and the 4K on the 6 series is amazing. But I am a little disappointed to say that the 4 series looks better when streaming YouTube TV which is my service of choice. Even OTA looks better on the 4 series. Any suggestions? Could it be that I have a bad set for the 6 series? I’m thinking about calling TCL I would assume that the 6 series would be better in general. I know viewing distance does matter the bigger you go but I am at a decent viewing distance in both instances.

4 series is edge-lit. 6 series is FALD. Are they calibrated to the same settings? I have a 4, 5, and 6 series and the 6 looks MUCH MUCH MUCH better. Try calibrating your 6 series using the TCL IPQ app. Makes a world of difference.

Never did the IPQ thanks I’ll try that. Should I have it on a certain setting before running the calibration?

I own one 4 and one 6. I agree with nj The 6 should look better. The IPQ calibration (a great feature BTW) will only change your white balance. If that were your issue, you would be complaining the color looks better on the 4. This doesn't sound like your case. My guess it's it's one or more of your settings on the 6.

As nj suggests, I would first make sure the picture settings of the 6 are the same as the 4. The next thing to do is download the Roku TV app. Go to advanced picture settings, and turn off noise reduction. It is on by default, and there's no access to it with the TV remote. This setting can have a noticable effect especially with 1080 material.

Looks like there's a problem with the iPQ app for android. Updated it yesterday and now when opening it says my phone isn't supported and to see the list on google play. It then automatically closes.

And yes, had previously used it successfully on my phone.

I used it on iPhone, and it worked flawlessly. After DL, you'll end up just taking photos with your phone and the calibration is done automatically. You can adjust from there, but it was enough improvement for me that I just left it as-is.

When I first got the 6 I thought that my 720p cable feed was bad. After some adjustments it looked much better. No HDR and no 4K but definitely better than before adjustments.

Today for about the tenth time I watched The Fifth Element (My wife was out so I could turn up my sound system). This time on a 4K DVD. I was amazed at all the new things I noticed that I had never seen before. I am enjoying this TV.

What adjustments did you make? I am going to do the IPQ this evening but was there anything else?

I played around a lot but it was the iPQ app that made a difference and then changing my HDR setting to "HDR Bright" and the Brightness to "Dark" that really made things pop. There seems to be either a lot of variability in the panels or maybe just what settings appeal to you as an individual.

I just got this TV from Costco and overall, I really like it. The brightness is great. The black levels are impressive. I have a fairly noticeable amount of DSE when running the video on Youtube, but I don't notice it during regular TV/movie viewing. My main problem is that I see a lot of what I think is judder. I was watching Batman Begins and when someone's face would pan across the screen, it seems choppy. I've turned Noise Reduction completely off, but I still see it. Is that common with this TV, or is there perhaps a setting I'm missing or possibly a bad panel that I received?

Just curious what other folks are using. I’ve been looking at the tv so long I can’t tell which looks better anymore

I use sharpness setting of 20 with all my settings. When I tested the sharpness using a DVE HD Basics disc, I determined that 20 was the "off" setting. More than that applies sharpness, less than that applies softening.

Thanks for the reply.

I’ve been very happy with these settings as well.

@wmarkw, looks good to me. Most important is if it looks good to you. Those numbers in your result look pretty good. I also went from a 5+ to about 1.4ish...and have not messed with the TV since.

I've had to delete the iPQ app from my phone and TVs now as a result of it no longer working on my Honor 7X android phone. Kind of surprised no one responded to my earlier post about the latest update.

I tried to activate my iPQ app the other day (Samsung S8+) and it wouldnt activate at all.

I have used it a few times on my 6 series to a good result and I wanted to see if it could dial it in even further but the app is no longer working on my phone.

This is super weird. What the heck did they do?

For anyone using the 6-series with OTA broadcast TV, will I be able to lock stations and re-scan? I am fed up to HERE with Spectrum. They have raised my rates 3 times in the last 4 months. We are getting whacked for $180.00 PER month for internet, (300 down) "basic" TV subscription, and phone...(which we don't use but are getting the "Bundled discount").

I have been researching antenna again, and have found a few. We are in central northern North Carolina, near the VA border. I need 60+ mile south to reach Greensboro, and have Virginia stations to the north. If I scan, then rotate, and re-scan...I don't want to lose the first channels.

I'm using a large outdoor antenna for my OTA reception on my Series-6.

Unfortunately scanning your OTA channels will overwrite the previous results. There is no work around for this.

However it sounds like your OTA channels are best received with your antenna aimed in different directions. The solution for your problem is an antenna rotor that you operate to change the antenna orientation for best reception of various channels. Yeah a bit of a pain but it works.

If you want to spend more you can get a rotor with programmable memory which will automatically reposition to the direction you've set for best reception of each channel.

You need to find an older apk for the app on the web and install that. Then disable auto updates for the app. That's what I did and my LG G7 works fine with the app.

Why doesn't the app calibrate below 50%?

I looked for an older android apk and didn't find one. You have a link to one?

As for the 50% it's because the cellphone cameras simply don't have the requisite resolution to be able to provide accurate results at that level and below.

I wonder if anyone has the ability to make a copy of the installer for the phone and TV apps that were in place before the change.
I put it on one of my Android phones and will not update it, but I never did the install on the 65R617. I wonder whether they have handicapped the TV app as well??

I don't know the rules about posting links to apps not on the official store, but I got mine from apkpure. You just have to look for the older version on the page.

re: 50% - So is it an okay practice to just "guess" some values below 50% based on the trends of the other values? Would that be better or worse than just leaving them as is?

Never used apkpure before but thanks. Really was hoping for some repository with the older iPQ version that didn't necessitate installing another app first.

As for below 50%, why bother honestly? Leave well enough alone with the improved results from iPQ. If the higher contrast settings have been properly tweaked the rest should also look good.
