The 615/617 6 series have a wide color gamut with the TCL NBP Photon Technology. But it's not as wide as the newer sets with Quantum Dot Technology.

I can go anywhere I damn please, and get infected and possibly die. But I'm taking this seriously, and have been staying in place in self quarantine for two weeks now.

TCL responded to my email about my busted TV with this prescription:

---------------

Hi Bill,

Thank you for reaching TCL Customer Support.

We are sorry to hear about your viewing experience being affected as the television is showing green and white horizontal bars, rest assured that we are here to assist you accordingly. To make sure that the steps you performed in troubleshooting the TV are aligned with our recommendations, please refer to the following steps:

1. Remove all connected devices at the back of the TV.
2. Drain the power of the TV.
a. Turn the TV off and unplug it from the outlet.
b. Press and hold the TV Power button on the bottom surface of the TV for 15 seconds.
c. Turn the TV on again.
3. Perform a factory reset. Please take note that this resets the TV to its factory default and clears the Roku account in the TV.
a. Press and hold the reset button for 15 seconds with a pen or pin. Ensure that there are no connected device at the back of the TV.

In case none of the steps work, the TV requires a repair. Please note that the manufacturer's warranty only covers one (1) year from the date of purchase. You may bring the TV to a local repair shop or if you purchased an extended warranty, please get in touch with the retailer for further assistance.

Stay safe and have a great day.

-------------

I followed those steps, and the problem persists. I'll need to figure out if this TV is worth repairing, and how to go about doing that. It won't fit in my car, and the local repair shop doesn't make house calls.

I still have to go to the office everyday as my CFO considers me essential, no option to work from home. The office is pretty empty now so I'm not worried. I still take the dog for two walks per day, but not many people are out.

I think I'd go crazy if I actually had to lock myself in the house all day everyday.

I can handle a month or so without issues. I did in in 2000 when I was on disability for 14 weeks. But after a month or so I needed to get outside.

It seems like a lot of people can't even handle two days inside. I know the wife of a co-worker is like that. Since the norm for her is to be outside many hours each day.

Well my 65R625 arrived this morning. Delivery guy left it at the door, and he didn't make me sign anything, so social distancing was in effect. I wiped down the box with clorox spray and washed my hands a million times. Knock wood.

The TV looks great out of the box, more or less. I changed a few settings, but I'll get down to serious tweaking the settings tonight when the room is darker. Pleased to report that the panel is flawless: no DSE, or dead pixels. Corner vignetting is far less than the 615 it's replacing.

More thoughts after I calibrate with the iPhone app tonight. Very pleased so far. Our Planet on Netflix looks amazing.

congrats to you on the new set. i recommend you spend more time enjoying it and not get too caught up into the scientific break down of test patterns and ultra settings and everything else.

just enjoy it.

Its interesting that the corner vignetting is lesser on the 625. Thats great.

Let us know how the general PQ has improved between the two models. I know the contrast ratio is supposed to be a lot higher on the QLed models. Is it noticeably so?

I have a 55R625 that I bought about a month ago. It's connected via optical cable to an older Vizio soundbar that doesn't have HDMI. The soundbar can learn codes from IR remotes. At first, I was able to use the TV remote to control volume/mute on the soundbar. A couple of weeks ago it stopped working. It will still control the TV but can't control the soundbar.

I was able to use the camera on my phone to verify the remote wasn't sending IR signals. If I unplug the TV, then remove and replace the batteries from the remote it will send IR signals. But, when I plug the TV back in, the remote stops sending IR after it pairs with the TV.

My guess is that the remote defaults to IR, but once it pairs to the TV the IR signals get turned off. Funny thing is it worked fine for at least a couple weeks before it started doing this. Was wondering if anyone had an idea on a possible fix.

It's hard to say. My 615 died on Monday, so four days went by before seeing this set. All I can say is it looks really, really good, and yes, I believe there is an improvement over last year's model, but not night and day difference. After all, the 615 is a great set, at least mine was, before it croaked. I think the 625 is better, but not being able to see them side by side, I can't tell you much more than that. It's a very, very good telly, especially for the price.

Yesterday I noticed another dark splotch on my 65R617. It was only one and it was in a different spot than last time. I reset the TV and it is now gone. Very strange behavior. Has anyone ever discovered what causes this?

I get the impression that the 2018 Series 6 4K HDR televisions really were/are iconic solidifying TCL as a solid US market player. Am I all wet?
