Does the new version have the same mounting height as this one? If I ever choose to upgrade, I remember this had had the mounts strangely low and mounting a replacement could be a pain.
I've had a number of instances of loss of internet lately and just passed it off as everybody's home and the internet is getting overloaded. Sometimes it comes right back, sometimes it takes longer. I have a wired connection so it doesn't seem like a problem with the TV.

I just ran I to this issue today. The ring of light was periodically flashing, and when I checked it didn't have a WiFi connection. There was nothing wrong with my internet connection, and my dozens of other wifi devices had no issues. So I had to connect again to an AP. And again it dropped off. So I then rebooted the TV. And for the last five hours I've had no issues with the wifi on my 6 series.

Yes, I just noticed that yesterday. I had no idea why it was flashing but it probably indicates a loss of signal.

So @aaronwt I had some of that ring flashing and internet drop a few times since the weekend....last night while watching the last dance within the hour show, 3 times my 55R13 completely shut off, and then came back on. I would go back into HULU and then restart the program.....anyone else experiencing anything like that? I will try to replicate tonight.

Wow, In a few days I'm coming up on 2 years with this set! Knock on wood, it hasn't disappointing me yet. I've got to talk myself into getting my meter out and seeing how much drift occurred with the settings one of these days. I'm sure a tweak or two might be in order.

I have had this issue with my new 4-series in the bedroom, randomly for a couple months. Essentially locking up the TV while it continues through it's reboot process. Last night, it just happened with my 617. Will try the reboot through the menu.

Without a ton of reading, I’m trying to find out why Bosch in HDR 60 on Prime is so much brighter than Ozark on same? Ozark is almost unwatchable on Apple4 TV too so I’m watching 1080P on Apple.

I watched Bosch Season six 4K HDR and it looked great. I don't have any device.

I should have put my model: 65-R615. If you have Netflix or have seen Ozark did you notice that most daylight scenes were too dark and nighttime scenes almost unwatchable for a PQ conscious person like myself?

I realize settings make a huge difference but I wouldn’t think this much when everything else looks great in 4K. Just a shade darker. I have changed them several times.

I don't have 4K Netflix, only regular and much of Ozark is dark. I watched an episode last night that was all either night time or inside. I think the darkness goes along with the darkness of the storyline.

I used to think all of the Lord of the Rings was dark until I got this set and now am rewatching all of the DVDs because there is so much more detail apparent.

I thought that might be the case so I took my Apple TV4K and set resolution to SDR 1080 and it’s much brighter. I like 1080P anyway. I also have the newer TCL 75-R615 and while Ozark was dark most 4K and UHD are fantastic. I watch the 65” 90% of the time except at night and sports.

Anyone have an issue with picture mode in the Roku app? When I am watching HDR files on my windows computer the picture mode in expert settings in the Roku app will only be in Low Power. When I try to change to Movie it will return back to low power when going back into it.

I'd just checked mine>>no problems. BTW your issue was raised on the other TCL thread. I responded the same way. A bug possibility was alleged.

Hello, Now that I'm stuck working from home I have been watching or at least having tv playing in the background. In my office I have an old Toshiba REGZA 46UX600U . This set was made in the days when Toshiba actually made their own sets and the REGZA line was their top model. Well this is why I'm on this forum. My Toshiba after 11 years just stopped working.
I needed a Tv to keep my sanity while I'm home and didn't want to spend that much money. I started looking around at the usual spots, Amazon, Ebay, Best Buy, Costco and Sam's. That's when I found this bad boy. I am an electronics enthusiast and am always watching videos, reading and doing whatever I can to stay up to speed with Audio and Video. I scored this for dirt cheep, so what I did was take my Samsung 55KU6300 our of our Master Bedroom and hook up the TCL. I am still in the going back and forth faze but what I will say is Damn!!!!! for what I payed this Tv is something.
I know this is a 2018 Model didn't want to spend the extra money for the 2019 from what I'm hearing isn't that much better than this. This was supposed to be an office tv.

Personally don't agree with the choices made, but I'm not the Director. I'd have played the darkness of the story against the lush green of the landscape. As to the interior scenes, I keep my home very well lit, it glows at night. Why live in the dark when a 7 watt LED cost virtually nothing to run? I can comfortably light the entire main floor of my hone with the equivalent of 2 or 3 100 watt bulbs from years of yore.

I keep things dim or dark. But then the lights turn on automatically as I enter the rooms or hallway. Using Smart lights, Smart Switches, Smart Motion detectors and my Samsung Smart Things hub.

Ambient Lighting setups?

I've been thinking of finding a USB powered LED string light as an ambient light source and affixing it to the back side of my 55R617 along the perimeter of the TV so that the lights themselves are not visible. The wall behind the TV is about 15-18" back. Has anyone else here already tried this and if so do you have any helpful hints to offer?

Also, does anyone know for certain if the USB jack is tied to the "power on" and/or "stand-by" settings? I did a quick test with the TV off and the jack also appeared to be off. I turned the TV on and saw power, but when I turned the TV off again the USB jack was still "on." I didn't time it but a few minutes later it was off again.

It would be nice to just plug in a string of warm white lights and have it turn on and off with the TV but I can live with it staying on for a few minutes as long as it does in fact turn off on its own.

I use this one from amazon. About $11 shipped. Currently unavailable but there are several resellers; just look around. Works great. Light turns off about 15 mins once the display goes off and also comes on when i power up the tv.

Agree with @wmarkw , as I bought one for my downstairs Sharp TV, and the strip turns on and off with the TV. Easy to install and use.

Thank you both @wmarkw and @lizrussspike .

That link was particularly helpful...it is amazing the difference in my search results when I use "bias lighting" as opposed to "USB LED string lights."

Quick question. Should I get a 65" 6 Series from Costco? I know we don't do price talk here. I will say that it starts with a 4 and in radio talk we have a couple of niners. Is there a better value to be had? I have the 55" but the upstairs 73" DLP needs to go. It still works but it just needs to go after more than 10 years. I need something that will last a year or two and then something around 70-75". The 65" would eventually replace my 55". Or are the newer 6 series models far and away better? Again it's just a filler set for 2 or 3 years for primary duty.

I need something that will last a year or two and then something around 70-75". The 65" would eventually replace my 55". Or are the newer 6 series models far and away better? Again it's just a filler set for 2 or 3 years for primary duty.
I have been very happy with mine and I paid a little more at Costco. Don't know about the newer model but mine has been great after I got it dialed in thanks to this thread. I watched Aquaman in Dolby Vision today and the colors, highlights and shadow detail were great. Certainly the newer model should be an improvement but I don't think it's a game changer.

Buy two 6.56 foot strips from amazon. They are dirt cheap. You will receive two strips that you can place around bottom and top of the tv. They are long enough to cover middle too. You will only use one remote control which will turn on and off the strips plus change colors. We use the dark blue light. It hugely improves viewing and contrast. Behind your tv, the whole wall will be blue.
If you have cats at home be prepared for them to climb up behind the tv and play with lights.
Before I forget, use packing tape to secure the strips, the strips do not stick that well.
