I'm also a senior service manger by trade and my gig is all about spotting trends and risks within sample data (taking size of sample into account). Let's just say my spidey sense is blinking way too strongly on this item to take the plunge yet. I hope I'm wrong for all the TCL fans in here, and I really like what they appear to be trying to do -- but the amount of QC problems is just way too high for my taste.

Honestly, I have to wonder if the shipping container got bounced with the number of broken screens and issues we are seeing. If I were looking for a root cause, I'd start there.
I have a hard time being too worried. The truth is that we've seen a handful of broken screens, most are fine. Some picture quality issues, but most are fine. I don't think we have a proper sample here anyway. A small group of very exacting people is going to skew things a bit.

Quick question...any reason to hold out for 65r617 as oppossed to r615, do you need voice control. And if you get the 615, is it Alexa compatible?

I was having audio issues with my Xbox X when plugged into HDMI 3, switched to HDMI 1 and it seemed to solve it.

You're saying that this TV can't pass Atmos to a receiver thru ARC even when using the onboard apps?

i have already done that as my Samsung UHD Blue-Ray player has two HDMI outs. but i'm very puzzled because when i hook up an old Roku 4 into that same HDMI INPUT then out from HDMI 3 ARC going to my receiver Atmos lights up on my receiver and definitely plays in Dolby Atmos audio so this TV DOES PASS it

Listen, I'm not an expert but my understanding is eARC is necessary to pass Atmos from the TV back to the receiver. My understanding is that ARC alone only will handle the same formats as a optical cable will (the benefit being CEC control of audio levels over the HDMI as well). But if someone knows more, by all means, chime in.

Here's an article explaining it: https://www.digitaltrends.com/home-t...ed-works-care/

Maybe the TV has eARC? If so, I wasn't aware.

Understand but this TV has the capability i was just asking why my Roku 4 can pass it through, but my UHD Blue-Ray player didn't

One week of use

Unfortunately I didn't take early photos of the panel, but it definitely had vertical banding which was distracting. As a projector guy for many years, I didn't even know that this "was a thing" but I saw it very clearly as I watched some 4K nature content with clouds, snow on mountains, etc. I was even thinking of swapping the unit.

However, it went away on its own a few days later, as I indicated in an earlier thread. I am re-confirming now that this is non-issue for me. This photo uses the rtings 50% gray image. Note the line on the far right is just a light reflection.

Very interested in hearing from others if their panels have improved with use.

Awesome! That's very encouraging to hear. I've only had mine a couple of days, so I'm hoping my screen uniformity issues fade away on their own as well. Going to keep throwing all the 4K HDR content at it as I can in the meantime...

I noticed my speaker had a rattle but my picture quality is good so I chatted with Amazon and they refunded me $200 so I just ordered a soundbar. Worked nicely for me, as I didn't want to go through the effort to box it back up and exchange.

Just so its clear, there are TWO types of atmos. there is a truehd/w atmos that will only work with eARC, this is what comes off bluray. There is also a DD+ w/ atmos, this version will work with standard ARC and what comes from Vudu and netflix.

I don't think I could possibly be happier with it. Aside from the quality, having Roku as the software UI is a real delight.

Hope TCL sells tons of them and reinvests into making my purchase obsolete ASAP...like a 75"+ next year.

Ok. On a whim I gave my screen a good solid rub down with a little pressure. Screen is much more uniform now and previous blotches, or may have been the dirty screen effect is now gone. I still have the couple dark spots on right side, but it's not that bad. Will hold out on service for a couple days and see if it improves. Could someone use their Xbox 1x to see if you get this same weird fading on whites with local contrast on high and contrast at 100%. I'm wondering if it's just a pesky side effect of the feature. It goes away with it off. Notice how the top right eye is faded on top and there's a faded swoop on the side white step on the outer sides. Thanks.

The tv is fantastic except for 1) reflections are far below world class (every other characteristic is amazingly close to world class) 2) I have modest vertical banding

I have till May 28 to exchange for another 65R617. 55P607 in the bedroom, 65R617 in the family room, LE58FHDE3010 in the basement. I'm a three TCL family.

Loving this tv so far. In my opinion, it's better than the P607. Watched some Netflix planet earth 2 and it surprised how good it looked. Dare I say its giving my C7 a run for its money for price and what you get. Gonna play some one x and pro games tonight.

I just picked mine up last night from a Best Buy warehouse. I'm coming from Pioneer 5020 which I had in our family room for a LONG time. So far, I'm incredibly happy with the TV. I've been trying to watch some 4k content as well as some hockey/baseball. Overall, I didn't have major problems with sports which was my biggest concern (granted, only watched about an hour last night and the derby today).

After saying that I'm really happy with no banding, great colors, etc. Here are my 3 issues I've noticed:
  • Reflections, far more noticeable than my old set - that said, as long as it's not primarily black it's fine.
  • Vignetting, the outside corners are definitely not getting as bright as much as the rest of the screen - I can try to get a picture up to show that if people can verify that it's not a panel problem
  • 4K Plex playback seems to buffer a lot more, even if I limit it at 20 Mbps which plays fine through my XBox One (not an X or S) so just 1080p

How is watching directv compared to say a 1080p TV?
So I'm going from 46" 1080p to 65" 4k. In a general sense, on the 65" motion/action blur and pixelation are definitely easier to notice, but I'm almost inclined to think that has more to do with the size of the screen. I just switched from HBO, to news, to hockey on NBC. In general, to me, all of it looked perfectly fine. Obviously not like watching a UHD blu-ray, but I wouldn't have any issues if I continued watching the hockey game. On a more static image (close up of a talking head) the image looks great. It definitely has more pop and vibrancy of color, but that's mainly because of the TV's processing power. My old TV is over 10 years old so...yeah.
GhaSper_- and srkmish like this.
