x850f does support HDR-10 and I would want to see for myself the claim of better motion for the LG as the Sonys have very good motion.

Current system:
Sony 75X900e/Sony HT-NT5 sound bar with SR-5 rear speakers
Sony X800 4K blu-ray player/Dish Hopper3
Roku 4 Premier/'Sony PS-4

Agree I am comparing the LG 86 inches mentioned earlier to this Sony 85 X850F inches. It seems I might have to have both the TVs home, compare content and then return one (most the LG 86 based on what I am reading).

To Deesapa:

I've owned both the Sony 850 and the LG 86 model that you were inquiring about. There is no comparison the Sony 850Fis a much better TV. It has better brightness, much better color accuracy, much better native contrast, and much better upscaling. They will equal in motion handling with sports in my opinion. Sony was much better with HDR due to the huge gap in brightness between the two.

The only potential issue I see with the 850 85 inch model is the panel. No one knows what panel is in this TV. My fear is that Sony may be using inferior panels in comparison to the 900f series for this TV. As much as I love this TV, I am tempted to wait for the 900f 85 inch model to come down to close out pricing wants the G Series hits stores.

Does this set have brightness fluctuation that can't be turned off aka Global Dimming issue?

Some say turning off the Adv. Contrast Enhancer fixes it, some say it doesn't.

How about Graphics Mode or Game Mode? Maybe it'll fix the global dimming issue?

How about renaming the Input as a PC from the Home Menu>Settings?

Can anyone try a dark scene/show with subtitles on to test?

I'm really interested with the X850F.

Thanks in advance.

The 85X850F does not have local dimming.

Thanks you for your valuable inputs. Is there no way to confirm panel information with Sony directly. Also when do you think close out pricing generally happens in March / April ?

I was unable to get any information about this model's panel when I called Sony directly. I'm betting close out prices will start in March as the G Series becomes available in most stores.

Thanks. It's different. The set might still have Global Dimming / Frame Dimming issues.

I'd like to ask again, sorry:

This 85 inch X850F should be on display at a local Best Buy. I went there today to the one near me and they played a lot of content for me including 1080P to see upscaling. I couldn’t see any brightness fluctuations. You can go there and check your other concerns as well.

The 85X850F uses a VA panel. It is different than the rest of the smaller 850F models which use a IPS panel.

Probably last resort. Hopefully someone here knows.

What content? Theirs or yours?

Was it connected to the internet?

Might be hard to tell with all their lights on the floor.

I wish they'd have a demo for dark scenes with subtitles.

I'm afraid of returning items from them now because they do bannings (Bestbuy is partnered with TRE banners).

Already returned X900F (bad panel smudged inside, left side brighter), a P55-F1 "fake 4K" sub pixel dither (not an issue with 65"; proper sub pixels).

It was their content from a USB. They were able to play that content on floor with lights as well as in 2-3 TVs on their Magnolia theatre setup. Find a friendly salesperson that can make all the difference to try the things you want to try out.

True. Man, buying a TV is such a lottery experience, even for finding a friendly rep

Got no magnolia in our bb like the ones in youtube where there's a big home like section.

Agree. Not sure if you are aware but you can go to bestbuy store locator https://www.bestbuy.com/site/store-locator and then enter zip or city/state and then "Filter by Services" and select to Magnolia Design Center and Magnolia Home Theater to find one nearest to you.

Did you exchange this for another 85X850F and if so did that have light bleed issues too or did you go for a different TV if so which one ?

Recently sony has "struggled" with motion on there 4k sets, many owners the z9d 65inch, the x940e have complained about motion.

The heard both the 900f and 900e has solid motion though

Just order a 85X850F from bestbuy, can someone please help me to measure the depth of the legs, because I have to look for a TV stand to put it in, from the spec it shows 17 inch?

The depth of the legs are around 16 and a half inches. I would use a TV stand with a minimum 18 inch depth or bigger for this TV.

There is nothing wrong with the motion processing, purely down to poor native panel performance ... (Panasonic for example also use the panel tpye used in the 65Z9D and have had the same issue).
Given the options at 85" it is possible it uses a panel of the same brand as above but based on a mini review done in Europe it likely uses a different brand panel (AUO, like the 75" X900F) as they say the motion is excellent.

Edit: see attachment of the t-con board pulled from an 85X850F as listed on eBay, AUO it is (same for the 85X900F).

I've been seeing prices dropping on the Sony 85X850F and I was wondering what people thought about it compared to the Samsung 82NU8000 and Samsung 82Q6. I like the size of the 85" Sony but the Samsungs are a little cheaper. I'm upgrading my 80" Sharp 1080p tv and we watch tv and streaming on this tv. I have a large 148" scope screen in my theater room for real movie watching.

Theater Room - JVC RS2000, Dalite 148" Scope, Pioneer SC-65, Panasonic UB820, Energy APS 5+2(2), Energy AC 300(1), Energy CR-3(4), PSA 15"Sub(2)
Sports Room - JVC RS4810, Dalite 106" 16:9, Onkyo TX-SR875, Oppo BDP-103, Energy C-7(2) w/Energy S8.2(2), Energy C-C3(1) w/Energy S10.2(1), Energy CR-3(3), Energy S12.3

I bought a Sony 85X850F for $2621 today and that included a 5 year warranty. I'm loving my new tv on day 1.

The Sony 85" 850F definitely has a superior picture comparison to Samsung NU8000 and Samsung Q6. Though many of the Sony 82" 850f TVs have serious screen uniformity issues. I had to return mine due to horrible clouding on both sides of the screen panel.
