For your HDMI required port connections try turning off Full UHD Color.

To be specific, I was Calibrating Dolby Vision with the Laptop. I can try and turn Full HD off and see if it does anything. I thought Vizio said something about putting a black screen up for 30 seconds before each reading but that takes forever, haha. I suppose that may be the only way though.

Wow. This thread is Deadsville. Did everyone throw their PQs away as soon as the PXs arrived? Been a week without a reply to my issue. Bummer. I also posted on the Vizio Official subreddit and several others have reported similar issues, but the Vizio reps have ignored the thread.

I discovered cranking the gamma down to 1.8 (EDIT: I'm currently running at 2.0 as a compromise) makes things as visible as SDR, but at the cost of washing out colors. I thought settings were per-mode (SDR, HDR10, DV) but gamma appears global so unless I set up multiple picture modes for SDR and HDR with different gammas, I'm SOL. Weak.

Gamma has always been global. I have owned 2016/17/18 Vizio models and this has always been the case for all of them.

I don't notice it really. There are some cases where certain scenes seem way darker than they should I saw that with certain scenes in a Chef's Table. I only noticed with certain scenes though. I do Calibrate and test my display quite a bit and can tell you that the Dolby Vision is quite a bit darker in the 5%-20% range than what the Dolby Vision Golden Reference says it is supposed to be and changing Gamma to 2.1 is a happy Medium for me and actually follow the GR better than 2.2, it is still darker though on the low end but better. Also yes 1.8 will increase that low end but at the cost of greatly increasing the mids. I calibrate with gamma at 2.1 because it's closer with Dolby Vision and use the 11pt grayscale to bring it to 2.2 for SDR.

I'd never noticed because I never needed to mess with it.

I'm running at 2.0 for now as a compromise. In my original posts about a dozen above these I detailed what scenes had triggered my "What's going on here?" alert.

Here is what I see going. It may be relevant to what you are seeing. The first picture is with Gamma at 2.2 and the yellow line is quite a bit below the reference. The second picture is at 2.1 and still below but better. 2.1 actually seems to follow the Golden Reference better the whole way up.

Just to point out when looking at the differences you should also include the CMS readings and not just the grayscale/eotf balance. Also use DEITP instead. DE2000 is not as accurate. The evidence you posted doesn't show the whole picture.

Edit: Check your meter profile. These are Quantum Dot panels and do not have the same output properties as the profile you used.

How do you switch to DEITP? I never figured that out. CMS was actually great but I’ll get them for sure.

Not seeing it in there...hmm. if I right click the DtaE graph it brings up others like DEICTP 240 and DEICTP 720 though.

I had to have my TV repaired through Square Trade last week. I woke up one morning and there was absolutely no picture at all, just a black screen. It turned out to need a new main board. The fix took about 30 minutes total and now the TV is chugging along good as new. I must say that square trade was really easy to deal with. That is all, carry on.
hernanu and guacamoleparty like this.
