I wouldn't hold my breath, they won't fix or upgrade anything unless it's clearly broken from the intended design. Sony definitely has cheapened out a bit on the LCD side, we are currently at a weird crossroad for high end TV's, everything is going toward OLED right now but those are inferior in HDR luminosity and burn in problems. Maybe Samsung's upcoming blue OLEDs with QD filters will move things forward in the short term, at least until the industry figures out how to mass produce true emissive QD without cadmium. Or some one can make double layered micro led LCDs well enough.

Honestly I think if Sony made a Mini-LED TV, it had 25k+ zones and an improved Wide-Angle layer, we wouldn't need Micro-LED anytime soon.

On this TV, I am still in love with what it can do with content. It has some areas that is struggles and I have been able to minimize it. I tell you though, it's the content that IMO, 8s HDR graded on a retail OLED TV like much of Netflix content is where I see it struggle the most.

Yeah, the limited brightness of OLEDs and cheap LCDs keeps the HDR content peaks down under 1000 nits. Super frustrating. Even with our TV I think the HDR peaks aren't bright enough. I'd love to have at least a true sustained 3~4000 nits capable TV. Considering that Dolby Pulsar uses a cooling system it's likely a potential problem for home use tho, not to mention the power draw costs.

Good evening from Greece .This TV is great. I have 75 ZF9, calibrated by a specialist, and the picture is incredible .HD and 4K excellent in picture. Depth and "black on black" in dark scenes. DSE-free panel and dirt. Very clean. Movies on Netflix are enjoyable. Little blooming in HDR, and hardly any in SDR. It may not be OLED but my opinion is that it comes close to 90 -95% picture quality over OLED. I wonder why the ZF9 has such bad reviews on the forums. Great injustice. I love this TV very much.

It has bad reviews because of the poor native contrast measurements and the little amount of dimming zones.

Well, Dolby Vision is suppose to account for the capabilities of the and use the meta-data accordingly. I don't know if they are doing that.

I don’t see mention of a new version of Android as part of this update. I am not convinced that the update will alter anything that would require a new calibration. TBH, I don’t see anything in the new features list that would interest me, so I am in no rush to update. Of course, the update may contain security or performance updates that are not specifically listed, which would be a reason to update, and which would suggest that a new calibration would be wise. If anyone notices any PQ changes or enhancements, please let us know.

Edit: BTW, why reset before recalibration? A reset to factory defaults adds quite a bit to the amount of work to get things back to the desired state.

I'm hoping for performance improvements.

In the past on my previous TV, I saw obvious changes to the calibrations only after performing an reset. My assumption is so the tv can maintain its current calibration for those that have one. Preforming a reset just ensures anything low level done in the firmware can be utilized. I don't mind this really. Yea it takes me an hour to reset the TV before calibrating but that's part of the hobby.

On the update it includes Oct. Security which is good. I don't know why they didn't just include November though.
The new menus are nice and work much more efficient..... Especially the quick menu. You can read about the changes here in more detail.

The app? I am using the Apple TV 4k box which does both DV and HDR10. Android TV doesn't have the AppleTV App yet. I did read somewhere that is was being worked on though.

Warning on Dec Upgrade!

Hello Z9F owners. I dont have one, but have a 950G and updated today. Not sure if this will apply to Z9F but if it does, I'm posting what I did in the 950G thread.

WARNING!!
I installed the Dec update via USB today. I was surprised to see the prompts to enable Samba Interactive TV. As a previous Z9D owner, that was always part of the setup. It was well known that Samba TV was a resource hog and would kill the TV performance and you never enabled it.

I have never seen a prompt for Samba on the 950 until this update, When you see the prompt for Samba DO NOT ALLOW it to be enabled. You cant disable it later.

In addition, go to settings->apps->system apps and find Samba services manager. Force stop and disable it.

We still need an alternative to OLED for sure. I am disappointed there are no 65" or 75" Z9G's

I don't know what it is but I disabled it. If you mess up you can reset the tv and do it again. I would imagine there must me a way to disable it after. I haven't looked into it though.

True, but it is actually easier to verify that DV picture mode is enabled by tapping the Action Menu button—the current picture mode is immediately shown. Used to take four or five button clicks to verify before. HST, I am still learning the menu changes in this new release, and am not sure it is an improvement. Yet in a week I will have forgotten the old menu layout...

I love the new layout. You can edit it to so only what you want are there. I miss the notification because you don't have to look but I also wonder why Sony omits that even with HDR10 or HLG. They could even add it to the infoscreen.

But only at 85" ($13K), and 98" ($60K). So no new Sony LCD's that we mortals can afford...
