Well Apple TV messes with the signals before sending it to the AVR. It also has a lipsync issue with Prime. These are probably my biggest gripes. I also get random dialog jumps from center to surround speakers during some Atmos content.

So decided between 75q90r and 75zf9. Decided for 75zf9. The TV is great. You can almost set the picture quality to perfection. The only annoying thing with this tv is not blooming in general (blooming in letterboxes is present but it does not bother me) but blooming in subtitles. I watch everything with subtitles and the true white settings for subtitles really exposes blooming.

I mitigated this on Netflix by using Semitransparent mode on subtitles without any shadows and the blooming is now really minimal. You can mitigate the subtitles blooming with toning down the white color in almost any player. Also with default setting there is Local Dimming set to medium so setting it to high also reduced blooming of subtitles. Play with different settings so you know how to set it up for best experience. 4K netflix really is amazing.

Which Dolby Vision mode should I use?

.

Please note the findings in the post linked below by @D-Nice today about DV Dark vs. DV Bright . . . he discovered a significant shift in Sony’s EOTF curve that shows that DV Bright is the most accurate for any attached HDMI DV source (i.e. player-led DV processing, not tv-led DV processing like internal Tv app’s.)

I posted my thoughts about that in the calibration thread. I'll buy the patterns and verify but with known content I don't agree that is accurate with our set since Android Pie.

Agreed, and thanks for investigating on our Z9F’s. jrref complimented D-Nice for thinking of performing the DV Dark/Bright EOTF curve comparisons for player-led vs. tv-led DV processing on the LG CX and Sony A9G OLED’s. Perhaps it exposed DV EOTF curve differences in the OLEDs due to the brightness limitations of their panels, which also affects their tone mapping. The Z9F panel brightness and tone mapping would be very different.

FYI D-Nice also points out that DV test patterns won’t work via a USB port on Sony tv’s.

D-Nice and I have been discussing this for a couple of days and when all is said and done, this was good detective work and I really feel should have been documented for the Sony and the LG sets. But I wouldn't stress over it. Now we know the behavior of the sets and just use the DV PM you like best.

I think it needs to be maintained for the OLED only at this point until LCDs are tested. I was told don't assume by the known content I look at but assumptions are being made that is is all Sony's since the all use the player-led profile for DV. That's all I'm saying. I looked at real content and compared it to HDR10 and SDR, on the Z9F DV-Bright is way too bright.

FALD technology is amazing but you will get some blooming, glad it is not bothering you.

Anyone else ever notice, especially those calibrated, that sometimes when we turn on the TV that the picture mode is not set correctly and I have to cycle from Custom pro2 then back to customer pro1 for it to be correct again? I could tell by the coolness of the whites.

The Picture Mode has never changed from whatever is was when I turned the set off, but sometimes the Auto Brightness seems to function which changes how the picture looks even though I always leave it off. I just turn the set off, then back on. Happens about twice a month.

I believe that D-Nice has mentioned that the Auto Brightness function has been buggy on Bravias for years.

I don't mean the picture mode changed, I'm saying that it doesn't look set correctly and I have to toggle the picture mode for it to set itself properly.

I always use Auto Brightness and it always functions correctly for me.

We might be experiencing the same thing then. I’ll try toggling the Picture Mode between Custom Pro 1 and 2 back to 1 next time it happens. We use Pro 1 for our dark mode, Pro 2 for daytime without Auto Brightness. I assumed it was the Auto Brightness self-activating, but maybe not.

When I toggle it I make sure there is something with white text up, even the menu settings and you can see how they shift warmer as soon as you change it.

ipv6,
I have tried to set this up on my network twice in the last couple months to to have problems. Video freezing typically from multiple apps.

Personally I would not use ipv6 still. It isn't necessary anyway.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

IPv6, way many products that claim to be IPv6 ready aren't. In real life I work designing and installing LANs for the DoD and we've and everything we've installed for 5 years has to be IPv6 compatible but we still only use it for long haul as way to many "certified" LAN clients still don't play well. The consumer landscape is even worse.

TLDR: Avoid IPv6 in your home environment.
