Cinema bars are just fine. I felt the Vizio may have been slightly darker but they’re tuned properly to the overall scene luminance.... they disappear. Bloom is minimal and on par with what I’m use to with the Viz. Color gamut is definitely improved over my P75...... now, on to uniformity and other neutral scene distractions.

Need a little more time with this one.... nonexistent might be a bit strong but appears to have the best LCD uniformity I’ve ever seen. I’m working this one with some scenes and content that I’m super familiar with..... and hockey

Are the black bars almost completely darkened? Are both the top and bottom blooming and showing haloing artifacts on dark background? Are your tests on SDR or HDR content?

I’m viewing DV content right now. The bars are black enough IMO. There’s some bleed from bright zones in a scene but I don’t find it objectionable.

Off angle color saturation and overall contrast is very good. The black bars do, however become more obvious and gray as you move out of the ideal viewing position. Small price to pay.

What content are you watching? Sometimes Netflix can have issues with black bar performance on even top sets , including Bright and sometimes Stranger Things. To me, the best test is the campfire scene in Ridiculous 6. Even with top sets, there's blooming from the campfire and the black bars go from deep black to grey in seconds.

Was there any difficulty in doing the zone count? In other words did the backlight appear "different" in some way?

Sorry for the random nature of my perceptions here but I’m kind of in a stream of consciousness mode.

Fyi, the sony remote was preprogrammed to work with my AppleTV

You definitely have to pay attention but the zones bloom as the white square moves. I repeated the test 3 times and I think it’s 15 x 17 but I may be off. It’s close.

I’m on the fence between this or the A8F both in 65”. I really wanted OLED but the black crush and input lag are keeping me away. Also the new Ultimate chip has much more room to grow in the future.

No apologies necessary, this is exactly the type of reporting I would expect for first night viewing. Will definitely be interested in the follow on more "critical" reports once you can really set aside some time to delve more deeply into its performance. You have a new ecosystem to get used to as well so these reports are perfect.

Hockey looks...... FANTASTIC. The panning shots that revealed every uniformity flaw, every visible element of the backlight grid, any hot spot.... are virtually nonexistent on the Z9F

Size always trumps quality for me.. Especially if you can get both size and good quality. Id take a slightly lesser LCD over slightly better but smaller OLED personally.

I think Sony knew what they were doing when labeled the Z. Kind of a bold move but this display earns it; Master Series.

Yes. With that said, I haven’t had it on in a high ambient room yet but my gut says it’s thing can scorch your eyes. Now, not sure how reflections and glare are going to be on the surface of this display. That’s a variable.
