My dad asked me about his 52" Sharp LCD TV. He said that it's all dotted all of the time. It's like this with cable, Roku and DVD. Anyone know what's up? Can it be fixed of is it time to replace? He hasn't gotten back on the exact model but say's it's about 11 years old.

If its about 11 years old, its time to replace. IF its fixable, and that remains to be seen, it would probably cost more than a new tv, which are super cheap these days especially for one of similar size. IT looks like the panel may be going out, but I am not sure, it seems like that might be the case since it is across all inputs.

I've tried to repair several TVs over the years. You can find the defective part via error code, flashing lights, or online comments. Most times if the part is available, it's one salvaged from a defective TV, so you're never sure what you're getting. Ebay and Craigslist parts usually have a disclaimer that it powered on, but the seller didn't have the equipment to test it fully. Good luck returning it if it doesn't work. Best bet is to buy a new one.

Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking.

The great thing is that compared to when he bought the TV 11 years ago prices now are stupid cheap. I don't know where that tv fell in the sharp line up top to bottom, but he probably payed close to $2000 for it new give or take. He can get a SOLID 55" 4k UHD set for about a grand now, or a cheap set for like $300.
