Hehe they are both fantastic sets. I don't believe most would or should complain about any of the 75"+ MASTER series sets. I also think the extra size of the Z9G would be worth a lot.

He would have started an owner's thread before he left the store. @shoman94 just always seems to know a guy when it comes to TVs.

I thought it something like that
But is this guy having this TV at his home? is it first TV in someone's home?
Or is it again sort of Sony's dome somewhere
By the picture itself I would say it is in some residential private space

He was probably at Value Electronics. He has gone to the shootouts there and it definitely looks to be at a business with that drop tile ceiling, carpet squares on the floor and table with wrap and section divider.

Has anyone seen the flatpanelshd.com Z9G review? They say the Z9G's contrast is barely better than the 950G. I have a hard time believing that. I'm guessing they only compared native contrast. I wish Rtings would review it but I doubt they could get a hold of one.

They could but they won't. Too expensive of a set since they buy and keep theirs until EOL for the set.

They report for SDR 950G 4700:1 calibrated vs Z9G 4025:1

For HDR 950G dropped to 2500:1 vs A9G 4400:1

Essentially for SDR they are not far apart, but when the light levels go up for HDR, the Z9G does a much better job and delivers up to 3x the brightness.

Robert of Value Electronics just posted that he has a couple Z9Gs on the way and he will have an 8K ShootOut in August.

Robert just let me know the reason it will be at the end of August is he wanted the LG 88" OLED 8K in the mix.

Going to be fun

Hello Owners;

I just got my 85" 8K TV installed yesterday.

Love the TV, but a few disappointments right from the start:

- Only 1 single 8K port
- I am considerng swapping for a SAMSUNG 8K - all HDMI 2.1 ports
- SONY did not spend anytime on the TV exterior (pretty ugly) <-- this is a comment from the wife

Now, the real reason I am posting:

Basically, I am looking for some guidance on whether I should have my new Sony Z9G 8K HDR calibrated? Also, if having some issues (popping sounds and overall volume level problems) between my eARC port which is connected to a SONY ST-5000 soundbar - it supports eARC. I am going to contact SONY support, but I have found myself to be more knowledgeable then the folks trying to answer my questions on previous attempts.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Ed

If you're considering swapping for the Sammy Q900, I'd suggest playing with the Z9G awhile to determine if you're going to keep it, before spending money on calibration. 2.1 content; will be a while before everyone is on board, so at this point 2.1 is a nice perk, but I wouldn't make that the decision of priority. I'd focus on PQ, and when considering 8k tv's, how good does that tv upscale being there will not be native 8k for a while. So next decision; Sammy vs Sony. How well is their upscaling and all the other magic in their processors to get their PQ look. My impression, Sammy more pop, Sony more accurate.

The Samsung Q900 8K tv is not very good IMO. the Z9G will likely smoke it. the Q90R has a better picture than the Q900 which is sad considering the Q90 is a lot cheaper.

The winner line up will probably be similar to the 4k Shootout

1) LG OLED
2) Sony LCD
3) Samsung LCD

I’m fairly certain that the Samsung 8K sets only have one single HDMI 2.1 port as well.

I agree with @ray0414 , the Q90 is a better choice than the Q900 in Samsung’s current lineup.

Samsung 82” Q90R * LG 55” C8 * Denon X4500H * 5.2.4 Atmos * Xbox One X * PS4 Pro

I haven't seen any Samsung 8K TVs with HDMI 2.1 ports. They only have 2.0b ports but do have some 2.1 features like VRR. Rtings review says the Q900R supports 8k @ 30 Hz @ 4:2:0 and 4k @ 120 Hz @ 4:2:0 via HDMI 2.0 only on one HDMI port.

As I'm interested in the Z9G, I am interested to hear if you get your eARC port issue resolved.

Ehh, I still don't trust Sony. I pre-ordered the Z9F and it's a complete rip off. With 700+ zones in the Z9G, contrast with local dimming should be much higher than the 4000s:1. I'm seriously weighing a 75" Vizio Quantum X vs. an 85" Z9G.

I don't care about price. It's that stupid optical layer.

Sony's screens are too reflective--wouldn't work for me, plus $5K more than Sammy. I use my TV for slide shows of photography, so went with Q900 vs Q90. My camera is 47 MP, so yes, I can see the difference.YMMV which is why it's so great to have choices.
