Another random question: does this TV or LCD in general have a break-in period? Will the picture get noticeably better after a certain number of hours?

I have never seen a prompt for Samba on the 950 until this update, When you see the prompt for Samba DO NOT ALLOW it to be enabled. You cant disable it later.

In addition, go to settings->apps->system apps and find Samba services manager. Force stop and disable it.
Thanks for the heads up!!!

I'm not getting audio from the TV to the AVR but if I select the TV Speakers it works fine.

I have the TV connected to the AVR via HDMI TV/eARC to AVR/ARC. No other connection.

I've checked the TV's settings and can't find anything and I've checked the AVR (Marantz 5011) and can't find anything wrong.

I'm sure it was working when I set up the TV last month when I bought it so I'm at a loss and hoping for some help.

I watch TV via cable box and all is fine.

I watch movies via a BD player and also use a Zidoo media player...all work fine.

It's just when I watch a show via the TV's apps so I'm thinking the audio signal is not being sent to the AVR.

Help is much appreciated.

Thanks
Had this happen the other day as well. Switch your eARC from auto to off. Power down tv(hold power button for 5 sec), power back on, and then switch it back to auto again.

I was moving cables around and for some reason it stopped working. Switching from auto-off-auto got it working again.

No. LCD TVs don't have that neither does OLEDs. But they all age slowly but it will take months on an OLED and years on LCD.

PS. I've seen some tests on speaker break-in and the amount the sound changes is often attributed to you getting used to the image or sound profiles rather than the device changing.

I finally got it working.
My mistake was making some HDMI settings changes and forgetting to power cycle the AVR and TV.
After doing the power cycles this morning, after putting my settings back to where they were...thank goodness for having it all on an Excel spreadsheet and being a nerd...the TV still didn't send the audio signal to the AVR while watching an app on the TV (Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, etc). The TV speakers work just fine and aren't that bad either but nothing to the AVR...argh.

I was going through all the settings for the TV in the "Display & Sound" section but everything looked like it was correct so I was just turning settings on and off when I got to "Audio Output - Digital Audio Out and three choices - Auto 1, Auto 2 and PCM. I had been using PCM so I clicked on Auto 1 just to see what would happen and Shazam, audio is coming out of the system's speakers.

Not sure why but it is working...I'll take it.

Thanks to all that offered suggestions.

Auto 1 is the default and correct setting. With the new Dec FW update, there is now also a passthrough option (YAY!) which is best way to set it up.

New owner 75" X950g Few questions

Hi guys coming from a 1.5 year old LG panel that went bad. Over all satisfied after two weeks of viewing. I use an Apple tv 4k and Roku Ultra + over the air. Do you guys have any preferred settings that work well for this set. After coming from Lg big difference is the Whites are Blinding. Also Hdr was a lot more Dramatic on the Lg, it also popped up in the corner on the lg monitor but the Sony does not show you if it is Hdr content or not.
I have a hard time telling if it is hdr or not?? Any tips ?

In my opinion, it is unacceptable for this TV to not allow this refresh rate at 1440P, when the previous X900F was capable of 1440P at 120Hz just fine.
bummer. Do you have any documentation (email, screenshot, etc.)?

I would assume if the 900F was capable, the hdmi chips one year newer should be equally capable, unless they had a reason to nix support.

Thanks for the feedback.

I ran into another weird issue a couple of times, including last night... you have to HOLD the power button sometimes to get the TV to turn on. Doing this last night did get the LED to come on, but the set powered itself back off after only a second or two. I'm suspecting an issue with the ARC/HDMI interface on the set, but I'm going to have to swap cables to a known good one to prove that it's the TV and not the cable.

Weird, I have not had anything like that... Actually the Earc worked better than I expected and better than my Lg Tv it was on previously...

Hi there. I also purchase a X95G last weekend (coming from Q7F) and have the same issues on my panel. I think even if I enable FAD the issue doesnt go away. Yes it's better but not perfect. So with all my respect are you totally sure that this is normal? From what I understand and have read this is cause most of the times due to bad assembly (panel with the metallic cover) and due to transportation (?).
I didnt had such an issue with my previous Samsung.

The 1st photo is of my previous Q7FN with no lights in the room
2nd photo is of my current Sony XG9505 with a small light in the room.
Shouldnt be better the new sony? It should but I dont really see that. I am thinking to call Sony technicians to have a look.
I would really like to have your opinion

And 2 more pictures with no light in the room. In one of the photo I have focus outside the tv area for more light, and on the 2nd photo camera is focus on the tv
FAL is on high but the problem still exists.
And as another guy mentioned, this issue exist also in the movies. Doesnt leave away except if I am watching a movie with lot of colors and without top-bottom black bars.
This clouding exist since the 1st day and tbh I think it's looks better now (4days later) than the first day.

I'm assuming the LG panel you're referring to was an OLED?

I have the 75" also, and so far as I can tell, the only way to see if you're viewing HDR/DV content is to pull up the picture settings. For DV content, you'll see it through the quick settings, but for HDR, you'll have to access the full picture settings and go to display settings. From there you'll see an "HDR" stamp.

As @zeekle stated for some unknowable reason the Sony engineers have chosen to disable FALD when on the menu screens such as you are showing photographs of.

What are the settings when watching content and you are seeing the clouding? In a darkened room such as yours appears to be try using Cinema with a brightness setting of about 15 and see if that helps. Make sure Auto Dimming is enabled and on medium or high.

Last but not least, if YOU are unhappy with the picture by all means return it, it is your money and only you can judge what is acceptable to you.

Doubtful. My set looks nothing like that on the same menu. Something is obviously wrong with his settings. Looks like everything is turned up to the max!

Here are three pics I took of Ozark using DolbyVision Bright in dark room. Used iPhone XR to take pics. You should see bloom but not as much as your display. You may need to check your settings.

Thank you for the info, Sort of wish they would show it on the screen "Hdr" or Dolby V....

Just curious do you notice a big difference in the Hdr picture? When the lg displayed the HDr you could tell it was a big difference! I Think the Sony is just an overall better picture so not much of a Diff????

The new Audio Passthrough option does not work for me. Most of the time just garbled or no audio. I only tried with internal apps, but turned it back off.

I have the 55" 950 and Amazon keeps crashing any time I try to play anything. It says,
"Something Went Wrong: Please try again later. For more help, go to amazon.c0m/videohelp"

I've cleared the cache and did a soft reset the TV. I don't want to have to do a factory reset because I finally got everything set the way I like it.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Doubtful. My set looks nothing like that on the same menu. Something is obviously wrong with his settings. Looks like everything is turned up to the max!
Thanks for the replies.
Settings I am using have been taken from a post above best settings site. I have only changed the brightness because my room is really bright.
The photo above were taken night with all lights close, but in real terms of using there is always a light.
Those cloudings exist since since day 1, with factory settings.

Auto dimming is enabled but whether I change brightness that clouding still exist. Room is really bright so I cant have low brightness. Lower the brightness though does help but doesnt erase this issue.
I cant return it.... Here in Greece the return policy is really different. In order to accept the tv back, the tv must have a factory problem, broken or or...
I have already contact Sony for this issue as well as the store from where I bought the tv and they told me they have to check the tv before a replacement is approved.
The tv looks brilliant and surely better than my previous but on previous tv without FAL didnt had cloudings ... not at all... I just think that this clouding isnt normal.... isnt blooming from the LEDs.... is most like someone is pressing those areas with his hand and create those cloudings.

Just got around to mounting our 65” X950G.

I’m having trouble getting our Onkyo TX NR686 to mate properly with the TV.

I’m not sure if I’m connecting everything in the most efficient way possible but I have both the cable box and blu ray player plugging into the receiver and then out to the TV.

I have it plugged into the 3rd HDMI input for ARC usage so I can stream Amazon and Netflix on top of that, but it doesn’t seem to be working.

Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

Leave it at 8 ohms and call it a day :)

Alright, I have some good news for owners of the X950G that use their TV as a monitor. I ended up really diving into this tonight. Through my testing of various resolutions, I have found the solution. It is totally possible to use the TV at 120Hz beyond 1080P resolution. This is what you do. Go into your video card driver control panel, and make a custom resolution of 2544 x 1431. Have it set to Progressive. Do not select CVT Blank. You can now play all your games and run your desktop with a 120Hz refresh rate at 1431P. It is only a few pixels less than 1440P, and looks identical.

I have x950g for a week now and even tho i was initially surprised about it's motion, i'm getting more and more irritated by it's damn screen tearing during fast motion scenes. Altough it is still miles better than x900f, it's motion certainly isn't as good as some people say it is. Videomirage was right and the only one noticing it in this thread before myself. At first i thought his tv is somehow defective, or the update made the motion juddery, but now i see it's just the way it is. Should i try and live with it or should i return this tv as well and get Panasonic Oled gz950? After seeing it at my friend's house, i should say it really has the best motion out of any tvs i've ever seen. Not to mention it has a plethora of motion settings available and sliders from 1 to 10 for custom frame insertion. The only thing that scares me is burnin.
I think all those people that keep saying Sony is the best at motion handling, made a spelling error and wanted to say Panasonic. Lol

Have you set your hdmi inputs to “enhanced” ?

Think before you speak....
